Natural VS. synthetic NATURAL-SOURCE SYNTHETIC-SOURCE Natural-Source Vitamin E is from vegetable oils. Synthetic-Source Vitamin E is from petroleum or turpentine. Carlson Natural-Source Vitamin E is derived from soybeans. All products test GMO-FREE ABSORPTION & RETENTION: Scientists have found Natural* Vitamin E is absorbed better from our digestive system than Synthetic* Vitamin E and retained in the body longer. Research scientist Maret Traber’s work indicates that the liver preferentially recycles the natural form of vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol), causing the excretion of synthetic forms and other tocopherols. CHEMICAL DIFFERENCE: Natural* NATURAL VITAMIN E is the single molecular configuration which occurs in nature. It is called: • d-alpha tocopherol • d-alpha tocopheryl • rrr-alpha tocopherol d- SYNTHETIC VITAMIN E is a mixture of 8 molecular configurations, 7 of which only occur when made by man. It is called: • dl-alpha tocopherol • dl-alpha tocopheryl • all-rac alpha tocopherol dl- Synthetic* MORE IN THE BODY CELLS: Dr. Graham Burton, associated with the National Research Council of Canada, studied the body’s response to Natural Vitamin E compared to Synthetic Vitamin E. This study strongly indicates the body prefers Natural Vitamin E to Synthetic Vitamin E. Here are some of the results: ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ 5.3 times more Natural Vitamin E was found in the Brain than Synthetic Vitamin E and: 3.6 times more in Red Blood Cells 2.6 times more in the Lungs 2.4 times more in the Plasma 1.9 times more in the Heart 1.7 times more in the Muscles This published study measured the proportion of Natural and Synthetic Vitamin E in various organs, tissues and fluids of experimental animals given equal doses of both types of Vitamin E. The preference was then confirmed by measurement of Vitamin E in blood and plasma from human subjects. This study was based on equal milligram amounts, not IU amounts, which tries to correct for some of the differences observed. Our Our bodies bodies know know the the difference! difference! The International Unit [IU] System For Vitamin E Potency “Has Not Been An Exact Science.” The International Unit System for Vitamin E was designed to account for all of the potency difference between Natural and Synthetic Vitamin E so that 1 IU of Natural Vitamin E would be equivalent to 1 IU Synthetic Vitamin E. However, there is scientific evidence which challenges it. As Max Horwitt, Ph.D., indicates “. . . the standardization of the various tocopherols for their biological values has not been an exact science.” The IU system is based on a type of Synthetic Vitamin E which has not been commercially manufactured since 1956. The form had 2 molecular spacial configurations, one of which does not occur in nature. The present Synthetic Vitamin E has 8 molecular spacial configurations, 7 of which do not occur in nature. But can the International Unit System, even if revised, show all the differences? Or will our bodies still favor the Natural-source Vitamin E and continue to show higher tissue levels, better absorption and longer retention? Some researchers, such as Jeffrey Bland, Ph.D., have questioned whether spacial configurations of tocopherol found only in Synthetic Vitamin E are actually a hindrance to the body because they tie up receptor sites, preventing the naturally occurring form of Vitamin E from acting. This is like someone In this Brochure: putting the wrong key into a lock. The right key cannot open a lock NATURAL Vitamin E means Natural-Source when the wrong key is in it. SYNTHETIC Vitamin E means Synthetic-Source * E E OTHER FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT VITAMIN E . . . Vitamin E is ESSENTIAL to life. We can not survive without it. Several prominent researchers believe that to perform at its best, the human body needs more than the U.S. Daily Value (DV) of 30 IU Vitamin E daily. The average American diet supplies considerably less than this amount. E Dr. Evan Shute, a Canadian physician internationally recognized for his 30 years of work with Vitamin E stated, “We think that the average normal female should have 400 IU a day and the average normal male about 600 IU a day.” E Vitamin E should be taken at mealtime. Dr. G.E. Desaulniers of the Shute Medical Clinic has shown that Vitamin E is absorbed better when taken with meals rather than on an empty stomach. Inorganic IRON can destroy VITAMIN E. The Shute Institute was the first to discover and announce that inorganic iron, as ferrous sulfate, can be destructive to the Vitamin E when the two are taken together. They suggest that when inorganic iron and Vitamin E are taken, they should be separated in the stomach by an interval of 8 to 9 hours. E Organic iron, however, such as that found in raisins, spinach and other ironrich foods, can be taken at the same time as Vitamin E, with no harm to the Vitamin E. Moderate amounts of organic iron supplements, such as the “Albion process” iron amino acid chelate, can also be taken with Vitamin E. E NATURAL VITAMIN E is stated as: E SYNTHETIC VITAMIN E is stated as: ddl- • rrr-alpha tocopherol • d-alpha tocopherol d-alpha tocopheryl acetate • • d-alpha tocopheryl succinate • all-rac alpha tocopherol • dl-alpha tocopherol • dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate • dl-alpha tocopheryl succinate Some firms mix 10% Natural Vitamin E with 90% Synthetic Vitamin E and call their product NATURAL VITAMIN E without declaring the synthetic portion. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has yet to act to stop this misleading labeling. E Deceptive product labeled “Natural” c 10% Natural Vitamin E i % 90 nthet E Sy amin Vit To be sure your Vitamin E is 100% Natural Vitamin E and not a blend containing mostly synthetic Vitamin E, choose only products that print the following on each bottle label: E Two biologically active, preferred forms of Vitamin E are: d-alpha tocopheryl acetate and d-alpha tocopheryl succinate Acetate and Succinate are important organic molecules within our bodies and are involved in numerous biochemical reactions. For example, acetate is an important part of acetylcholine, the neural transmitter required by every nerve cell in our bodies to transmit impulses. Moreover, acetate and succinate are found in energy producing reactions in every cell. Acetate is another name for vinegar, and succinate is 2 acetic acid molecules attached together. Because these two forms change to alpha tocopherol during the digestive process, they are active antioxidants. E All forms of Natural Vitamin E become active antioxidants (free radical fighters) inside our bodies. The ALPHA form of tocopherol is considered Vitamin E. Beta, Gamma and Delta tocopherols, often called mixed tocopherols, have less Vitamin E activity in the human body. Alpha and mixed tocopherols are present in substantial amounts in Carlson E-GEMS PLUS. E-Gems Elite contains alpha and mixed tocopherols, with the related tocotrienols. E E E Natural Vitamin E penetrates the skin and is of benefit to some skin conditions. It can help keep your skin looking young. All Carlson Vitamin E Products Test GMO-free. A Personal Word about Natural Vitamin E from Susan Carlson Beginning in 1946, Canadian physicians Evan and Wilfrid Shute pioneered and documented Vitamin E therapy, using it on over 30,000 patients at the renowned Shute Institute and Medical Clinic. Initially they had only crude wheat germ oil to use as a Vitamin E source, followed by Synthetic Vitamin E. When Natural Vitamin E became available, Doctor Evan Shute discovered it was more effective for his patients. He found Vitamin E useful for so many conditions that other physicians and scientists became suspicious about this powerful nutrient. Today, medical research continues to substantiate the numerous clinical findings of Doctors Evan and Wilfrid Shute. Like many brilliant pioneers, they were ahead of their day, discovering uses of Vitamin E only now being rediscovered and substantiated. Sadly, both did not live to see these newer advances. We were introduced to Vitamin E through the Shute Institute of Canada. The results we observed when using Vitamin E were exceptional, yet even then we noticed significant differences when using Natural Vitamin E as compared to its Synthetic version. We even experienced differences between the different forms and brands of Vitamin E. Because our optimum health depended on only the finest Vitamin E, we decided to provide it ourselves and began planning a new company. When Carlson Laboratories became a reality, we were committed to offering only the highest quality Vitamin E which would consistently provide the best results. We were convinced then, as now, that Natural Vitamin E is superior to Synthetic, so ALL Carlson Vitamin E supplements, since our beginning, have been only 100% Natural-Source Vitamin E. To assure you of its quality, we print the following guarantee on every bottle: The independent testing firms are registered with the FDA as following Good Laboratory Practices. Assay (test) reports are available on request. Look over our Vitamin E products. They are the finest. If you have any questions on Vitamin E or other nutritional subjects, be sure to ask us. We are Carlson Laboratories, a caring family owned company dedicated to serving you. Yours for health, Susan Carlson Registered Pharmacist Licensed Nutritional Counselor VITAMIN E GAINS NOTORIETY FROM SCIENCE With over 50 years of scientific research,Vitamin E has gained notoriety as one of the most predominant and active antioxidant nutrients. The amounts of Vitamin E effective within clinical studies are not obtainable, even from a well-balanced diet, and that is why many people choose a Vitamin E supplement. 100% NATURAL-SOURCE VITAMIN E Promotes a Healthy Heart and Cardiovascular System Maintains the Strength of Capillary Walls Helps Maintain Blood Glucose Levels Within a Normal Range Promotes a Healthy Immune System Supports Healthy Vision Promotes Healthy Nerves and Muscles 100% Natural-Source Vitamin E Protects Other Nutrients, Including Fish Oils and Vitamin A and C The statements above have not been evaluated by the FDA. It was originally found that an absence of Vitamin E caused animals to become sterile. Further research has shown a deficiency of Vitamin E in some animals may also result in muscular dystrophy, certain heart problems and other ailments. The most extensive clinical work with Vitamin E was done by Doctors Evan and Wilfrid Shute of Canada, beginning in the 1940’s. Because this essential nutrient cannot be manufactured by the body, many knowledgeable individuals are choosing a Vitamin E nutritional supplement. E•GEMS® A Very Popular Product!
