FUNCTIONAL AND USER-FRIENDLY TENTS
Helsport quality, materials and design, and over 50 years of experience have been
carried through with a focus on user-friendliness for our Trek series tents. Helsport
Trek tents cover a wide range of three-season user needs. The outer flysheets
are made out of our well-tested and long lasting polyester rip stop PU, Helsport
Rainguard®. The Helsport AirflowII® ventilation system has also been added to
improve ventilation, reduce condensation and provide a high quality inner climate.
Aerodynamic design gives increased wind stability as well as increased inner tent
room. The Helsport pole system with extremely strong Helsport Superpole®
1000 poles makes it easy to set up even for one person. All Trek tents have a
large vestibule for your gear and convenient side entry with mosquito netting.

TENTS FOR THOSE CONSCIOUS OF WEIGHT
AND VOLUME
Helsport Pro tents are lighter and have a unique design which enables an
incredibly low packing volume. Simultaneously, Pro series tents maintain a
strong and durable construction. Our Pro tents have all the quality features
from our Trek series, while lighter and more streamlined materials and design
have been chosen in order to reduce weight and packed volume. Helsport
has developed our Superlight®1000 fabric especially for our Pro tents.
Superlight®1000 is woven with high quality yarn and coated on both sides with
a new special silicone component. This combination provides a waterproof and
durable fabric which has at least eight times the tear strength of the average
tent fly sheet. In addition our Pro series inner tent fabric is both lighter and
stronger. We have also developed our Scandium Superpole® especially for the
Pro series. These poles are made from an ultra-light scandium alloy and have
34cm segments for low packed volume. A special compression bag is included
to complete the low-volume package.

TENTS FOR EXTREME CONDITIONS
Helsport has combined years of experience and thorough testing in order to construct our X-TREM tents. These tents are constructed for
use in the most extreme conditions imaginable. The safety and functionality of Helsport X-TREM tents has been documented the world over
by countless Norwegian and international expeditions. All of our tents in the X-TREM series have reinforced details, extra guy line and peg
loops, and storm flaps which increase stability in strong winds. In addition, our X-TREM tents have special designed pegs and a mesh gear
loft.

Our skirt ventilation system can be adjusted by colour coded shock cord from
inside the tent. Skirt ventilation provides maximum airflow between the inner
and outer tents to prevent condensation. Read more about ventilation on

Some Helsport tents are equiped with two entry points and vestibules. Having two doors is an added comfort in
a crowded tent and additionaly provides more space for storing gear and cooking.
CODED
Selected Helsport tents with different length poles have colour coded ends that match their respective chanel.
This makes setup easier and quicker and eliminates room for error. Read more about Helsport pole channel

LAVVU – DEVELOPED OVER THE LAST FEW THOUSAND YEARS
Native Americans call it a tepee while the Scandinavian Sami call it lavvu. With room inside for the whole gang to sit around the fire, there is a reason
the lavvu design has survived thousands of years and is still used today in the daily lives of people who live outdoors. The lavvu is the most versatile tent
design, where you can prepare food or simply warm your hands over the fire, while being able to stand up. All this and plenty of floor space for the whole
crew to sleep inside the same tent. We developed our Helsport Lavvu Seires to incorporate the high-technology materials and design features of our other
tents into a complete range from the minimalist LaavuLight to the granddaddy Finnmark.

A ’medium large’ tent, Rondvassbu is spacious enough to be comfortable
during extended stays but still light enough for trekking. The high arching
tunnel design provides lots of room for preparing food and gear storage as
well as space enough to move around inside. Despite this added space,
Rondvassbu is relatively light and equally functional in the backcountry as it
is in the camp grounds.

Despite its size it is easy to set up, with extra peg and guy line points giving it

Vallhall is a large “base camp” tent, ideal for large groups with standing
room throughout most of the tent. A tent floor and specially designed
inner tents are also available. (space for two inner tent)
The Vallhall is easy to set up and includes extra peg and guide wire
attachments for increased stability in strong winds. Four side openings
(two baldakin compatable with mosquito netting), and zipper openings
on each end make the Vallhall fully accessible. A 170cm pole for the
baldakin door can also be purchased separately, and a special opening
in the roof makes it also possible to use the Helsport wood stove inside
the tent.

Spitsbergen is a streamlined version of the Spitsbergen Camp.
We have removed the large vestibule to save weight while
keeping all the other qualities of the Camp model in tact. The
newly developed inner tent includes our newly developed 360°
zipper opening which provides more ventilation and a larger
door opening. This is the model used by Børge Ousland during
his “North Pole by Night” expedition in 2006 – a genuine, fullyfunctional extreme tent.

Professional outdoorsmen like our Fjellheimen Camp tent so much, they
asked for an X-TREM Series version to better cope with cold and harsh
conditions. We took the same winning design, beefed up the materials and
added storm flaps and extra guy line and peg loops for stability. We ended
up with the lightest and most versatile tent in our X-TREM Series. AirflowII®
ventilation ducts are better suited to snowy conditions and increases air

Varanger
Recently crowned test winner in an extensive lavvu
comparison by Norwegian outdoor magazine Vilmarksliv,
Varanger is our new fully loaded model. The outer
tent is made of a specially developed fire retardant
Helsport Rainguard® which is ideal for use in lavvu.
The opening has protected double zippers and fire
retardant mosquito mesh. Two Helsport AirflowII®
ventilation ducts combine with an internally
adjustable top opening to ensure sufficient
airflow inside, preventing condensation
and improving air quality. The aluminium

Finnmark
The king of all lavvu, Finnmark has been developed for use by the most
demanding outdoorsmen in the most demanding environments. We have
combined years of experience and knowledge into our new flagship
lavvu with details like an adjustable inner tent, which can be easily
lowered from inside to increase heat retention, and a permanent
groundsheet with Velcro opening for fire or cold pits. Finnmark is

It is the unique combination of these features which has
made Helsport’s fly sheet fabric known the world over.
HELSPORT SUPERLIGHT® 1000.
To build even lighter and robust tents for our PRO and X-TREM
series we developed Helsport Superlight®1000, an extremely light
yet durable outer tent material. It is over eight times more tear and
abrasion resistant than normal outer tent material. The fabric is
woven with extra fine thread and coated on both sides with a newly
developed silicon giving it 4000mm water resistance (waterproof)
yet weighing only 52 g / m2. Helsport Superlight®1000 also
features strong natural resistance to UV rays and excellent fabric
stability under a variety of temperatures.
TENT LINER FABRICS
Tent inners are not only responsible for creating an insulating air
channel, but for transporting moisture and limiting condensation
as well. Therefore inner tent fabrics are selected based on weight
and breathability.
POLYAMID
Used primarily on our TREK Series tents. A silicon-impregnated
nylon that is water repellent and highly breathable, Polyamid does
not absorb water, dries quickly and weighs only 60g / m2.
RIPSTOP SUPERLIGHT POLYAMID
A Helsport fabric developed specifically for use in our PRO and
X-TREM Series inner tents. The rip-stop weave dramatically
increases durability yet has a minimal effect on weight and
breathability. This advanced fabric weighs only 40g/m2.
OUTER FABRICS
As a consumer it is difficult to compare the performance of various
manufacturers’ fabrics. Many consumers can be mislead to judge
a fabric’s quality based simply on its water resistance when new,
without taking into account other factors. First, there are many
different testing methods for fabrics, the results of which can vary
as much as several hundred percent! In addition, by European
Standard a new fabric that reportedly resists water to 1500mm is
enough to be considered “water resistant.” However differences in
the fabric’s silicon coating will greatly affect its performance over
time. Therefore, a high water resistance when new is less important
than how the fabric maintains its water resistance over time.
It must be made clear that when a fabric’s coating is increased
in order to add water resistance, the durability is consequently
reduced. Therefore it is critical to completely understand a fabric’s
characteristics and intended use when choosing materials. Using
our many years of experience and research we develop fabrics
optimally suited to each Helsport product.
HELSPORT RAINGUARD®
We use a polyester designed specially for our TREK tents, Helsport
Rainguard®, which includes the following features:
* Minimum 4000mm water resistant - waterproof
* High tear resistance for security
* Special durable coating which gives high abrasion resistance
and long-life
* Increased UV resistance which increases product lifetime
* Fabric stability which keeps the fly sheet taut even under

Ground sheets are a critical component of all tents because they
are exposed to high moisture levels and additional wear and tear.
Helsport’s ground sheets compliment the quality of our outer tent
fabrics with higher water resistance (5000mm) and increased
durability, greatly increasing the comfort and lifespan of our tents.
VENTILATION.
Proper ventilation of your tent will prevent condensation, dramatically improving the living environment inside. Because of
this, improving airflow has been a primary focus at Helsport for many years.

HELSPORT AIRFLOWII® VENTILATION SYSTEM
In cooperation with the laboratories at NTH/SINTEF in Trondheim,
Norway we have developed an advanced ventilation system for our
tents, which:
* Remarkably reduces condensation in both inner and outer tents
* Provides an improved inner environment
* Increases sleeping comfort
Before we describe how the Airflow® ventilation system works it is
important to understand the issues of condensation, ventilation and
air exchange inside all tents.
SOURCES OF CONDENSATION:
There are three main sources of condensation in tents: ambient air
humidity, humidity from the ground below the tent and humidity from
the occupants.
Condensation build-up greatly increases when high humidity and cold
temperatures occur together. It collects on cold surfaces making
the outer tent and ground sheet most vulnerable. When the tent
is shaken by wind or rain, condensation can even fall into the tent
giving the impression of a leak. Condensation will also easily occur
between the ground sheet and your mattress as well as in the
vestibule area, which doesn’t have a ground sheet (particularly when
cooking or storing wet gear).

will greatly improve your comfort level.
HELSPORT AIRFLOWII® WORKS BY USING THE FOLLOWING
METHODS:
A. Air intake at ground level under the outer tent. This air can then
be vented into the inner tent through an adjustable valve slightly
higher up on the tent wall.
B. Additional air intake at ground level through the inner tent. There
is an adjustable valve on the inner tent.
C. Exhaust of air over on the opposite side of the inner tent through
the inner tent’s upper mesh door valve. It is important that the mesh
valve which is on the opposite side of the air intake valve is used.
In addition, the other door must be closed on tent models with two
entries, as this valve will otherwise disturb the flow of air. The opening
must be adjusted for the number of persons inside the tent.
D. Exhaust of air up and out of the outer tent. Here, the outer tent’s
valve on the opposite side of the inner tent’s intake valve is used.
E. Air intake which reduces condensation between the inner and
outer tent.
VENTILATION:
Insures an even and steady flow of fresh air into the tent which
increases the level of security, improves the quality of sleep and
removes condensation. Best results are achieved with a constant
and controlled stream of air through the tent.
AIR EXCHANGE:
A quick and complete change of air inside the tent in order to secure
a quality atmospheric and thermal inner climate. Similar to opening
the windows in your car while driving.
ATMOSPHERIC INNER CLIMATE
High levels of CO2 = “heavy air.” The human body needs approximately
one litre/second of fresh air to avoid overexposure to CO2. Clinical
studies with NTH/SINTEF have proven that AirflowII® ventilation is
capable of surpassing those levels of fresh air by a comfortable
margin, thereby ensuring a pleasing climate for all occupants of
the tent. Test results with tents without AirflowII® concept show
inadequate fresh air exchange and therefore for high levels of CO2
gas.
THERMAL INNER CLIMATE
The AirflowII® ventilation system combats condensation by providing
an air channel between the inner and outer tents that ventilates
both the channel and the inside of the tent itself. Humidity caused
by condensation drastically reduces the insulating properties of
clothing and sleeping bags and creates a damp feeling inside the

CONSTRUCTION
SEAMS AND STITCHING
Seams and stitching are another critical factor for building quality
tents. Helsport uses double-needle stitching on all seams under
stress. Double-needle stitch is the only seam that won’t come apart
even if the thread is broken or destroyed. Other load bearing points
on our tents are reinforced with bartacks
and special stitching incorporated with nylon
webbing.

Helsport tent thread is specially developed using a polyester core
that is spun with cotton fibre to produce a thread that expands when
exposed to moisture, which seals the seam even tighter. Seam
sealer or paraffin wax can also be applied should seams begin to
perspire over time.
ZIPPERS
Zippers can literally be a make or break component and are therefore
critical to durability and the enjoyment of your tent. We choose only
high-quality zippers from YKK, the world’s leading zipper manufacturer.
YKK zippers are reliable and easy to use in all conditions. Many
Helsport models also have zipper covers to prevent leakage or icing
under cold conditions.
AERODYNAMIC DESIGN AND OPTIMAL SPACE
In the late 1960s Helsport invented the tunnel Our years of
experience combined with research and development plus feedback
from professional users have allowed us to perfect the tunnel design
to maximise space-to-weight ratio in a highly aerodynamic and stable
design. On selected models we have decreased volume around the
feet area and increased usable space around the head and vestibule
areas. Simple, proven, innovative.
INNER AND OUTER TENT ATTACHMENT
Helsport uses a simple yet ingenious, user friendly system which
uses either clips or elastic loops to connect together the inner and
outer tents. The inner tent is attached by always beginning with the
colored clips. Our tents are therefore quick to set up. The clips and
loops also insure proper distance between the inner and outer tents
which thus insures proper ventilation. All inner and outer tents can
be separated from one another if it is desired to divide the carrying
load, or perhaps only use the outer tent. This also makes it faster
and easier to dry the tent. One may also choose to release some or
all the joining clips or loops to make a large room for cooking.
GUY-LINE POINTS AND PEG LOOPS
All of our tents have reinforced guy line and peg attachments. We use
high-quality nylon webbing, which is extremely durable.
UNIQUE POLE SYSTEM:
Our complete pole system for tents is based on three elements:
* Tried, tested and proven poles
* Unique pole channel system
* Simple and user friendly handling
TRIED, TESTED AND PROVEN POLES
Based on years of testing and analysis, we has developed the
Helsport Superlight®1000. The pole’s dimensions and degree of
pre-bend are individually adjusted for each tent model based on the
height, diameter and expected degree of extreme bending. We offer
our special aluminium alloy poles with:
* Better resistance against permanent bending
* Higher level of break-strength
* 100% anti-oxidation treatment to prevent corrosion
Each Helsport tent comes complete with a repair kit including
everything needed to fix a hole, tear or broken pole.
Helsport Scandium Superpole® is an extremely light pole used when
weight matters most. Developed using the incredible Scandium alloy,
the Scandium Superpole® is perfectly suited for use in our high end,
lightweight tents. Advanced butted construction allows a lighter
pole while still maintaining its resistance to permanent bending and
warping. A unique volume makes ultra-low volume packing possible.
UNIQUE POLE CHANNEL SYSTEM
There are pros and cons to both internal and external pole channelling;
each method has its advantages. Helsport has once again set new
industry standards by designing a hybrid system combining the best
of both internal and external pole channels. Our unique pole channel
system has:
* Inner channels which have more waterproof seams (outer channels have “open” seams on the roof.)
* Inner channels which increase wind stability
* Inner channels which have lower noise levels in strong winds
* Outer openings to insert poles which make it quicker and easier to set up the tent.
The poles are inserted on one side and nestle
in a pocket at the end of the channel on the other side.
SIMPLE AND USER-FRIENDLY HANDLING
When you choose a Helsport tent you will also

STORM FLAPS
Storm flaps are an intricate part of our expedition X-TREM Series.
Flaps of fabric extend from the tent’s walls and
can be piled with snow or stones for a dramatic
increase in stability. Standard on X-TREM tents,
storm flaps can be added to all models when
special-ordered.
GUY POINTS
All X-TREM tents have guy points which are sewn
onto wind exposed parts of the tent. These points give extra wind
stability and anchoring.
MESH EQUIPMENT LOFT
All X-TREM tents come with a removable mesh equipment loft for the
inner tent which can be used for drying or storage of lighter objects.

Our Trek series sleeping bags have been
designed with Helsport’s famous quality
materials and construction with a focus on

FABRICS
Our experience has shown that improving the quality of fabrics greatly
affects the overall performance of your sleeping bag. Helsport has
developed a complete range of our own fabrics, specifically adapted
for use in sleeping bags. By carefully selecting only the best fabrics
suited to the intended use of the product, we are able to ensure the
comfort, durability and dependability demanded by the most serious
outdoorsmen.

MATERIALS

best materials from manufacturers around the world. We are able to
develop lightweight and durable fabrics best suited to their intended
use.
ATTACHMENT POINTS
Every Helsport pack has several well-designed ways to attach gear.
It’s always convenient to have an extra layer of clothing, map or
water bottle handy while you are on the go.
FABRICS
Helsport has developed these durable, lightweight fabrics for specific
use in backpacks. Our outer fabrics are treated with a silicon PU
coating for added water resistance.
D-Rings – Plastic rings allow you to attach heavier items by strapping
them to the pack with cord or nylon webbing.
Daisy Chains – heavy-duty loops made of nylon webbing, sewn to the
pack. These can be used to attach climbing gear as well as a myriad
of other possibilities.
Shock Cord – easy access attachments for lighter items like clothing
or maps. Shock cord has many uses and requires minimal adjustment
for quick storage.
Nylon 840D - extremely robust fabric for reinforcement
Polyester 600D – a heavy-duty synthetic fabric with 3000mm water
resistance.
Polyester Diamond Ripstop 600D – The same high-quality synthetic
fabric as 600D with an added ripstop weave which resists tearing
and increases durability.
Polymid Ripstop 450D – A light weight fabric featuring an added
ripstop weave that makes it durable as well. Well suited to packs
where minimum weight is a priority.
Polyester Diamond Ripstop 200D – Our lightest pack fabric also
features a ripstop weave. Used primarily on our lightest models.
Hypalon – heavy-duty coated fabric
ZIPPERS
Zippers can literally be a make or break component on any piece of
equipment and are therefore critical to durability and the enjoyment
of your pack. We use high-quality zippers from YKK, the world’s
leading zipper manufacturer. YKK zippers are reliable and easy to
use in all conditions. Many Helsport models also have zipper covers
to prevent leakage or icing.
COMPONENTS
Helsport uses only the best attachment components from selected
manufacturers. We test all of these components for function and
durability under varying temperatures before including them in our
pack designs.

EXPANDABLE POCKETS
Expandable pockets offer the practicality of easy accessed extra
volume when needed, but don’t get in the way when not in use.
Helsport’s expandable side pockets provides three additional litres
of capacity.
COMPARTMENTED LID
Separated pockets in the lid of our packs make it easier to keep the
small things sorted. They are conveniently accessible from both the
inside and outside of the pack.
ADJUSTABLE/DETACHABLE LID
Loosening the straps to your lid will allow you to store bulky items
like a mattress or jacket for easy access. Our Munin pack has the
added feature of a detachable top compartment that can be used
separately as a small bag.
SEPARABLE MAIN COMPARTMENT
To help you keep your gear organised the main compartment can
be separated into two smaller compartments. This allows you to
separate heavy gear from light, dry from wet, etc. It can also be
removed when carrying larger items.
ZIPPERED BOTTOM COMPARTMENT
Allows quick and easy access to the lower part of the main
compartment.
REINFORCED BASE
Heavy duty Polyester 600D reinforcement makes the base of our
packs more durable, preventing wear and tear where it’s needed
most.
HYDRATION READY
Many Helsport packs have their own internal pocket for carrying a
two-litre hydration pouch. The pouch is held securely in place close
to your back – the ideal location for carrying heavier items. The
hose exits the bag through a dedicated hole and attaches to either
shoulder strap for quick refreshment.
DETACHABLE SIDE POCKETS
Helsport’s detachable side pockets have several practical uses.
Besides adding five litres of capacity to your pack, the pockets can
be removed and converted to either a waist bag or small backpack
by attaching the included straps to either one or two pockets. They
are standard equipment on our X-TREM 90+30 pack and are also
available as an accessory for many of our other touring packs.

WET CONDITIONS
Even though we use only the best materials when constructing our
packs, no backpack is completely waterproof. We provide rain covers
for all of our touring packs and they will dramatically help keep your
gear dry in rainy or wet conditions. Any equipment that absolutely
must be kept dry should be packed in either waterproof bags or
plastic. The fabric on your pack will become less water-resistant with
time and use. Therefore it is recommended to treat your pack with a
water-proofer from time to time. You can purchase a water-proofer at
your local sports dealer.
ADJUSTMENTS ON THE GO
Carrying comfort can be greatly increased by actively adjusting your
pack to various terrain. It is most important to evenly spread weight
between your shoulders and hips. Here are a few helpful hints:
Flat ground - over flat, easy terrain it is best to loosen the shoulder
straps and tighten the waist belt, transferring more of the pack’s
weight to your hips.
Ascending, challenging terrain - while ascending it is important to
tighten shoulder straps so that the pack is most stable. Loosening
the waist belt can prevent it from being in the way as you lean forward
and take most of the weight on your back.
Descending - it can also be advantageous to loosen the hip belt to
ease the strain on knees and hips.
ABOUT VOLUME RATINGS
What does that volume rating mean anyway? The ratings provided
by Helsport refer to the volume of the main compartment of the
pack, plus any fixed pockets and compartments, including the lid. On
some models, like our X-TREM and ProLight packs, the main capacity
number is followed by an expandable rating, indicated by a + sign.
This value refers to the extra capacity gained by expanding the pack
to its maximum capacity. The top of the main compartment can be
expanded, allowing you to load extra volume up to 20 litres. Our
Helsport Detachable Pockets also add five litres.
GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR PACK
A properly packed and adjusted backpack is the key to comfort on
long trips, helping you get the most out of your trip.
HOW TO LOAD YOUR PACK
Properly packing your backpack will greatly improve comfort while
carrying heavy loads. Another factor to consider is convenient access
to the items you will possibly need along the way, eliminating the need
to unpack trailside. By determining which items you might need you
can pack unnecessary items such as extra clothing, cooking utensils
and dry food stores in the bottom of your pack. The heaviest items
should be placed mid ways up, as close to your back as possible.
This will help bring the centre of gravity closer to your back, between
your shoulder blades where it is most stable. Try to pack everything
except your mattress and an extra clothing layer inside your pack.
Items attached to the outside are prone to snagging on tree branches
and rocks.
SKI TOURING
If you are ski touring with a heavy pack, stability will be the main
concern. In addition, you will be using your upper body more thus
requiring more freedom of movement. We suggest lowering the centre
of gravity in the pack, closer to your lower back.
WEIGHT RECOMMENDATIONS
Touring with a heavy pack increases the strain on your knees and
hips. Weight is always an issue to be considered when trekking, and
all additional weight will lead to fatigue and discomfort regardless
of how well packed and adjusted your backpack is. A general rule
of thumb is to not pack more than ¼ of your body weight. If you are
inexperienced with trekking and carrying heavy loads in a pack, the
maximum ratio will be closer to 1 / 5. Walking with poles will help
distribute the stress over the rest of your body and reduce fatigue,
as well as aid in balance.

As a result of long time testing and development, we are proud to introduce
‘Fjellduk’; a new product with a wide range of use. “For me Helsport products
have always been a natural first choice, both for expeditions and shorter touring.

2007/HELSPORT fjelldUk
TESTing HELSPORT FJELLDUK
Several “Fjelldük” manufacturers have tested their models
by measuring the temperature inside the Fjellduk, as a value
for insulation and protection. Based on our many years of
experience with sleeping bags, we believe there is a more
effect test method. In co-operation the Norwegian scientific
institute Thelma, Helsport have developed a new test method
based on the EU Standard EN 13537 for temperature rating
of sleeping bags. The test is done with Thelma’s thermal
mannequin “Louise”. We decided to test “Louise” with three
different sets of clothing. We measured thermal insulation
properties of each of the three sets of clothing on the thermal
manequin both in still wind and with a wind speed of approx.
5 - 6 m/s. ‘Louise’ sat on a thermal mattress in normal
sitting position and heat dissipation was measured.

The results:
Note that this temperature is based on that the person is
sitting still. by keeping your body in motion, heat is produced and the extreme temperature rises.
We calculated the various temperature values based on
T-ext (extreme temperature) of the EN 13537 EU standard
(T-ext is the temperature at which hypothermia can occur
for an average woman after approximately 6 hours).
However, the value is relevant in emergency situation (ie. in
case of injury) and shows how important it is to have safety
equipment like “Fjellduk” when you are in the field.
The following are the results:

The figure shows lowest temperature, without
the protection of a Fjellduk, when the person
is sitting or lying totally still. With no wind and
‘Summer clothing’, the person can expect to
be comfortable for approximately 6 hours if the
air temperature is 15°C. If under same circumstances the wind is blowing 5 - 6 m/s, the
person can expect to be comfortable for approximately 6 hours if the air temperature is 22°C.
With a 5 - 6 m/s wind, using Helsport Fjellduk,
the person can expect to be comfortable for approximately 6 hours if the temperature outside
the Fjellduk is 14°C. Under same circumstances
but using Helsport Fjellduk X-trem, the temperature is lowered to 3°C.
