DJ Relentless is one of a kind—thank God!
DJ Relentless is one of a kind—thank God! I can literally sum up “his” unique aural experience in two words: BRING EARPLUGS! Many DJs can fill a floor—but few can clear
them with the efficiency of this jock. Relentless also holds the unique distinction of being
the only US DJ to bottom in animal porn films—with family members, no less! And talk
about reasonable rates. Name one other DJ who pays to play! No, he’s worth every penny
he charges. All five of them!
And now for the truth. Relentless is a seamless mixer whose greatest asset is his versatility,
in a world where too many DJs get bogged down in that boring “I only play tribal” or “I only
play hip-hop” bullshit. Relentless feels out and plays for the crowd, which has inexplicably
become a novelty in clubland. Since he spins at gay, straight, black and white venues from
upscale clubs like Lotus to grittier, popular lounges like XES, this fool has every record
known to man-, woman- and tran-kind from hip-hop and R&B, to soulful house (his specialty) to circuit music and the fiercest classics. Anytime I’ve had trouble locating a specific
rare mix, it’s been Relentless to my rescue with his encyclopedic record collection.
And of course, a long-running residency at the legendary Latin club La Escuelita has ensured that he is well boned up on his salsa classics and the latest reggaeton cuts. In fact,
his ass got pretty well “boned up” by Escuelita’s horse-hung go-go gods in the DJ booth/
dressing room. KIDDING!
Also highly commendable is the fact that Relentless stands out as sober, punctual, reliable,
hard-working team player in the drama-filled world of tweaked-out diva-ish super-DJs who
often aren’t worth all the fuss! If needed, this man goes the extra mile to emcee, provide
soundscapes for fashion shows or hilarious, tripped out show reels for his many drag sisters. I would highly recommend Relentless for any gig from main floor to gay pride events
to weddings or corporate functions. He’s already done ’em all, nationwide for decades.
—The Infamous Lady Bunny (Entertainer, Vocalist, Hostess, DJ, Songwriter, Ho....)
“I don’t think that anyone can come
close to the versatility of Relentless.
There is not a dance floor that I haven’t seen him work his magic on.
And I personally have a huge collection of his mixed compilations.
It’s the closest thing to being in the club.”
—MJ White (Vocalist/Writer/Recording Artist)
“One of New York’s best kept secrets,
but not for long.”
—Linda Simpson (New York Nightlife)
“With his knowledge of music and his extensive library,
I can’t think of a better DJ.
The man is brilliant when it comes
to programming.
Relentless is THE MAN!”
—Hector Alemany (Loyal Fan and Central Park Skater)
DJ/VJ Relentless aka Alphonso King, Jr., came to New York City in 1992 and has built quite a name for
himself as a DJ in the NYC and surrounding areas. He is currently a reoccurring guest DJ at the historical
Monster bar and club in Greenwich Village where his spins an excellent blend of House, Club and Classic
tracks each week for their enthusiastic patrons. Relentless also is a rotating DJ for the Monster’s Disco
and Classics nights on Tuesdays nights and is the musical director for Hi Voltage show with Jesse Volt. On
Sunday nights, Relentless has been the resident DJ and the musical director for the Harmonica Sunbeam
Tea Dance at Escuelita Nightclub here in NYC for ten years where hip hop, R&B club remixes and voguing
and runway beats are the de jour for the hip hop and Ball Community that patronize Escuelita. Relentless
is also proud to be a resident DJ at the Cedar Brook Café nightclub in Westport, CT which is currently the
2nd oldest LGBT bar in the US. In past years, DJ Relentless has been a resident DJ at a few other well know
venues around town: Therapy; Barrage; XES Bar and Lounge; Posh Bar; The Web and at the Circuit in Asbury
Park, NJ. In recent years, DJ Relentless has been a two time nominee for “DJ of The Year” at the Glammy
Awards and had the opportunity to DJing for the Glammy Awards this past March at Webster Hall.
DJ Relentless has been sought after for various music related projects such as: Jayms Blonde Secret
Agent 69, Online ‘Zine; Sound and Musical Director for the 2005 run of the play “Happy Birthday
Madame Alberta” produced by ZenBizness, LP and Jackson Anubis Productions. Let’s not forget the
numerous drag and female impersonators that often seek his editing skills for their musical material for
their pageants and weekly shows.
To satisfy his desire to give back to the community that has given him so much, Relentless has done pro
bono DJ work for various benefits for community based organizations such as The Anti-Violence Project
NY, the Hedrick Martin Institute at the Harvey Milk School for LGBT youth and for Black Pride NYC,
Inc. just to name a few. Being an enterprising individual, DJ Relentless has also provided his services
for several corporate functions for the likes of “Saturday Night Live”, Related Management Company, LP
and Asbury Park’s Annual Road Trip.
Being a part of the MTV generation and having witness the landscape of New York nightlife ebb and
flow over the years, sensing a need for a little extra something for his patrons and fans, DJ Relentless
has recently added VJ to his moniker highlighting his ability to adapt with the times. Since doing so, his
entertaining video compilations are continuously sought after by bars/lounge and nightclub owners in
NYC for the added value they bring to their venues.
As a recording artist, Alphonso King began his recording career in 1997 with the release of his first 12” Dance
single “Why Are You Gaggin’?” as his alter ego—Jade Elektra. In 2000, he signed a record deal with Triple
XXX Records in London. “Bitch You Look Fierce” and “Proud Mary” have become underground dance and
runway favorites from New York to London. Jade Elektra’s most recently recording “How Do I Look” produced
by Midnight Society has been a sought after track by a few record labels and DJs such as Peter Rauhoffer and
DJ Paulo. DJ Relentless is currently singed with the London base record label Groove Baby Records and his
most recent track, “House is Alive” available for purchase on beatport.com and junorecords.com.
With 20 plus years of DJ experience under his belt, DJ Relentless is pleased that his skills are still very
much in demand. Several more projects are in the works, DJ Relentless, Jade Elektra and Alphonso King
are definitely names to look out for.
