MANSUR TRUCKING NEWS
4th Quarter 2015
I really liked this article and felt it was important to share. Jim-
A word from BEN STEIN, American writer, lawyer, actor, and commentator on political and economic
issues.
Apparently, the White House referred to Christmas Trees as Holiday Trees for the first time this year, which prompted Ben
Stein to say on CBS Sunday Morning:
My confession: I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it doesn’t bother me even a little bit
when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas Trees. I don’t feel threatened. I don’t feel discriminated against. That’s what they are, Christmas Trees.
It doesn’t bother me a bit when people say “Merry Christmas” to me. I don’t think they are slighting me or getting ready to
put me in a ghetto . In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of
year. It doesn’t bother me at all there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu.
If people want a nativity scene, its just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away. I don’t like getting
pushed around for being Jew, and I don’t think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people
who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from, that
America is an explicitly atheist country. I can’t find it in the Constitution and I don’t like it being shoved down my throat.
Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren’t allowed to worship God? I guess that’s a sign that I’m getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where
these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.
In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different. This is not intended to be a joke; its
not funny. Its intended to get you thinking. Billy Graham’s daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her “How could God let something like this happen?” (regarding Hurricane Katrina). Anne Graham gave an
extremely profound and insightful response. She said “I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for
years we’ve been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being
the gentleman he is, I believe he has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us his blessing and his protection if we demand he leave us alone?
In light of recent events. . . Terrorist attacks, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murphy O’Hare (she
was murdered) complained she didn’t want prayer in our schools and we said OK. Then someone said you better not
read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as thyself and we
said OK. Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn’t spank our children when they misbehave, because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self esteem (Dr. Spock’s son committed suicide). We said an
expert should know what he’s talking about. And we said OK. Now we’re asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don’t know right from wrong, and why it doesn’t bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and
themselves.
Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with the “WE
REAP WHAT WE SOW”. Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world’s going to hell.
Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send jokes
through email and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice
about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion
of God is suppressed in the school and workplace. Are you laughing yet? Funny if someone were to forward this message, he/she would not send to all their addresses because they aren’t sure what their friends believe or what they will
think of them for sending it., Funny how we can be more worried about what people think of us than what God thinks of
us!!

The high cost of operating a truck is a never ending challenge in the trucking industry. One of the top things we do here
at Mansur to cut costs is watch fuel costs. The Company continues to negotiate better prices and terms as well as
identify the best fuel stops. Drivers have little control over this BUT there are things a driver does have control over.
A driver has almost complete control over the driving efficiency of his truck.
Every week a PerformX management report gets looked at to determine areas that need immediate attention.
One of the top things we look at is Idle Time.
Last year Mansur Trucking burned 24,472 gallons of fuel idling our trucks.
A few things that can be done to avoid high idle time would be to:

Shut truck off unless you are going down road

Warm up truck just enough to get water temp to move above 100 deg.

Shut truck off directly after parking

Conserve battery power for use with heater. (by this I mean shut off lights, TV, inverter, radio)

Carry extra warm sleeping bags and blankets.

Your bunk heater is designed with a low voltage shutoff and will stay running after truck power shuts off.
There is no need to start truck when cab power shuts down.
We are a trucking company in the northern states cold climate and we can do our best to keep your truck regulated to
what your comfort level of home is but the reality is dress warm and come prepared and expect the unexpected.

Winter time is very hard on equipment. Here are a few things that require extra attention Lights – Road salt and moisture create a corrosion agent that acts fast. Keep an eye on all lights and keep clean.
Tires – During cold weather tires will sound different when thumped compared to warmer weather.
Tarps – Cold weather make the tarps stiff. Use extra caution when removing so they do not get caught on cargo and rip.
Windshield – Stone chips need attention. A simple chip will result in a cracked windshield if not repaired.
Fuel Filter – Fuel thickens when cold. If fuel filter is full with a cold engine recheck when engine gets warm. Chances are
the fuel level will drop in filter once the truck warms up.
OnGaurd System – Keep snow and ice cleaned off radar
PLUG IN - As the weather gets cold and winter sets in, you MUST park your truck where you have access to PLUG IN!
If weather becomes bad enough, you will receive notification to idle the truck.
If you have any maintenance issues please call me here at the shop at Ext. 209 or call my cell phone at (262)581-3746.
