Summer is here but we have already been in full
swing for a couple months now. Wet Wednesdays
in Cal 20’s is the best we have had for a few years
and the number of boats keeps growing. The
competition has been great as well, with constant
lead changes and different winners each week.
The faces of crews also keep changing as new members are climbing
aboard! The Cal 20 fleet owes a debt of gratitude to our Fleet Captain
and Director, Richard Welsh, who has quickly become the key reason for
our renewed success. His email blasts are informative and fun to read
with added bonus of an occasional photo. Then there are my favorite;
Wednesday Night burgers, with all the add-ons. Mid-week has never
been better.

Wow, CBYC is one busy club!
During May, the CBYC Galley served
over 600 meals, including 120 people
at our sold-out Mother’s Day Brunch,
over 120 people at the two Cook Your
Owns and over 300 people at our
four Wet Wednesday Burger Bashes!
The word is out - the CBYC Galley is offering great food at
a great price! Come down and enjoy a meal.
We have a great summer in store for us at CBYC... lots
of cruises, racing, social events, junior events and Fleet
Week. The former Navy Days Los Angeles is being reformulated as “U.S. Navy Fleet Week,” and CBYC will play
a role that has yet to be finalized. Kevin McCloskey and
Karen Perrault are working with the Port of Los Angeles
and generous CBYC members to determine what events
CBYC will hold for our military personnel. If you want to
be involved, contact Kevin or Karen.
In the meantime, celebrate “4 Days of the 4th of July” at
CBYC. The club has planned music, food and fun from
July 1st through July 4th. Activities include a “Mini
Cruise to Britain” (thank you Cheryl and Steve Thomas),
dancing to the Chuck Alvarez Band (thank you Steve
Jost), Dinghy Poker Run (thank you Foxes and Simmons’),
and a SailCube “Non-Regatta” (thank you Bryan Dair and
Guizlos). For more information, such as dates and times,
read further in this Lighthouse.

May was a great racing month.
We hosted the start of the
predicted log Marina Cup
from CBYC to DRYC with 7
boats starting. Wet Wednesdays are going strong with
Cal 20s, PHRF, and Farr 40s enjoying the evening
races and the great burgers back at the club. CBYC
hosted the Eli Reuben Memorial (Opti) Regatta
Harken #3. Over 50 young sailors raced over two
days. Trophies were presented on Sunday by Paula
Reuben and Commodore Bill Schopp. Thank you
to all who volunteered and PRO Aaron Feves. The
month ended with the Around Catalina to Dana
Point race (or cruise straight to Dana Point) hosted
by Dave Moore. On June 4-5 CBYC is hosting the
Laser Pacific Coast Championship’s--PCC’s. We
are expecting 70+ boats and will need your help to
make this a great Regatta.
The cruise to Avalon was hosted by Jeff and Kathy
Embree. The Embrees sure delivered on a fun
packed weekend as everyone had a great time. The
following weekend Zachary and Carina Tinker
hosted the Cherry Cove Cruise on Jim and Claudia
Clark’s boat. What a great way to spend a weekend
on the island. Our Cruise Chairman, Jim Clark and
the Social Committee are planning a Fantastic July
And, in closing, everyone should Dress Ship on the 4th of 4th weekend including a “Mini Cruise to Britain”.
July. (The CBYC Ship’s Store has three sets of signal flags
We will be needing help to make all the events
in stock.) The 4th of July is an opportunity to celebrate our planned by Jim run smoothly so please contact us

With the summer sailing season already upon us, Cabrillo Beach Yacht
Club has a full schedule of racing, cruising, and social events planned. This
Mike Richards
summer, there will be days when the Club’s parking lot is impacted due to
the holidays and other events on our busy calendar. Please check the Club’s
calendar and arrive in the parking lot early on days like the 4th of July. If the lot is full, don’t forget the
parking spaces south of our dry storage yard, or across the street at the park.
The Juniors, this month, are busy sailing, as usual. The first event will be the Laser Pacific Coast Champ
onships the 4th and 5th of June. The Laser P.C.C. is a major event for the Club and we will have sailors of
all ages and from all over the West Coast participating. Next, the Juniors will compete in the Harken Series
which will be taking place on June 17th, 18th and 19th. In July, they will be participating in the Junior
Olympics at Cal YC on 15th, 16th and 17th. The Summer Sailing Sessions will begin June 6th and will run through the month of
August.
Finally Family Cruise will be September 9th, 10th, and 11th. This will be a fantastic family event, and I hope you will all mark your
calendars, and come prepared to have a great time. Again, this year, The Annual Tom Daggett Duck Race will be held during the
Family Cruise. The ducks are available for charter at the very fair price of $5 or you may register your own personal duck. The winner
need not be present this year to collect the magnificent 1st prize.

The Lighthouse, June 2016
Board of Directors Minutes - May 3, 2016
Commodore Schopp called the meeting to order at
19:00 hours. The Secretary made a roll call and a
quorum was established. Gwen Butterfield noted
that the LA Harbor Commissioners Board Meeting
is May 5, 2016. Some items of interest might be
“Re-setting of rent for 22nd Street Landing,” and also
the construction of solar carports on the parking lot
area across from CBYC.
Director McCloskey presented the Membership
report and stated that we have three MIPs that have
met all the requirements for membership. Accordingly, it was moved by Director McCloskey and
seconded by JSC Burch that the following be accepted into membership: Sunny Reifel (A), Michael &
Auset (Michelle) Morgan (RF), and Peter Geuther
and Victoria (Tori) Rodman Geuther (RF). Motion passed unanimously. Director McCloskey said we have some
other MIPs in process: Bryan & Connie Downs (RF), James E. Partridge (R), and James & Melanie Baeza (RF).
Commodore Schopp presented the Marina Management Report. We currently have two 36 foot slips available.
These will probably be filled quickly from our waiting list. Dry storage is currently full. Dock projects in May include replacement of dock boxes, spot painting on the crane, and maintenance of our tractors. Remember, if you
see something that needs repair, please fill out a maintenance form and give it to Dean. We have two suites available in the commercial building and suggestions to help get them rented are appreciated. Regarding the Junior
Program, the Opti junior’s completed the SOCAL series at King Harbor. In May we will see Opti Team Racing at
Cal Yacht Club on the 14th & 15th, and the Harken 3/4 series at CBYC May 21-22, and we will need lots of volunteers. Summer Sailing begins June 6th.
Treasurer Aaron Feves stated that the Club is right side up by $36K, although this may reduce by approximately
$6500. The Landing is about $9K behind on income, but $14K under on expenses. The overall effect is approximately $40K positive for the first four months. Secretary Karen Perrault stated that she had emailed copies of the
minutes from the April Board meeting to all the board members. It was moved and seconded that the minutes be
approved as corrected.
Rear Commodore Mike Stavros began his report by saying the cruise to the BVIs was such a success that plans
have already started to go to San Juan Island next year. There are two cruises scheduled for May: The Avalon
Cruise May 13-15 and the Cherry Cove Cruise May 20-22. The Emerald Bay Cruise is set with Corsair YC July
15-17. We had 18 boats for the Pt. Fermin Inverted start, and Mick Shlens in Blade II was first overall. Thanks
go to PRO Dixon Hall. CBYC hosted the Walt Elliot Challenge on Catalina 37s. Six clubs raced and Commodore
Schopp and his crew defeated the challengers and came back as winners again this year. Thanks go to Jonathan
Mitsumori for running a great race inside the middle breakwater. Jonathan was also the PRO for the Thrilla at
Cabrilla/505 Regatta, and we thank him for that.

The Lighthouse, June 2016
May is the start of Wet Wednesday Races. The Predicated Log Marina Cup from CBYC to Del Rey YC follows.
The Eli Ruben Memorial (Opti) Regatta is May 21-22. The PRO is Aaron Feves. He will need you to volunteer
to help make this a success. June 4-5, CBYC is hosting the Laser PCCs, and Steve McJones is PRO and M’Liz
Callender is Chairing. We are expecting about 70 boats, and again, we will need lots of volunteers on the water
and on the dock.
Junior Staff Commodore Burch said that we will have a special guest speaker, John Jourdane, at the May General Meeting. He will share tales of sailing more than 300,000 miles in the great blue sea. He was voted the “Best
Racing Navigator in the World” by Yachting Magazine in 1993.
Vice Commodore M’Liz Callender thanked Mark Fogle for his many hours on necessary repairs. The banister
repairs were completed under budget and the five doors slated for replacement will be installed in early June, also
under budget. There will also be some evaluation into a camera and buzzer in the bar. The new bar hours and
required breaks for bartenders is a topic of conversation among the members. Closing for Wed/Thur is 10:00
p.m., so last call is at 9:30 p.m. The implementation of the break policy is bumpy at best, so please be patient,
it is a new Labor Law and we must comply. June will be a special JSC Burch Father’s Day Supper (with no June
Brunch). Please remember, Lobster Feast has been cancelled. July 4th will be a “Stay at Home Cruise” with a
CYO, Dinghy Poker Run and so much more.
Commodore Bill Schopp stated that he has been getting many thanks and kudos for our Opening Day. The
neck-tie ceremony amongst our dignitaries was a great hit. Thanks to all the many volunteers that made Opening Day such a wonderful success. Dr. Jack White did a terrific presentation at the April General Meeting to
familiarize us with our defibrillator. Jack had the audience actively involved in attempting to save the lives of
“artificial dummies” they brought. Commodore Schopp also shared that we have applied for the Lipton Cup and
are waiting for our acceptance.
Director McCloskey discussed tentative plans for Fleet Week. The organization “Navy Days” is no longer funding this activity. There are some community partners to help head it up, but there is no funding, so we may need
to start fund raising to participate at CBYC. He suggests that we commit to the following: Open bar for discounted drinks, Burger Bash on Sunday, maybe with a band, a possible CYO on Friday with buy two meals and
share one with a sailor, with maybe racing on Wednesday. This event is scheduled for the first week of September.
There being no further business before the regular Board, the meeting was adjourned at 20:34 hours.
Respectfully submitted by Secretary, Karen Perrault

June Cruiser’s Corner
The Lighthouse, June 2016
By Jim Clark, Cruising Committee
May was a great month for cruises. We had the
Avalon Cruise and the Cherry Cove Cruise. At the time
of this writing, we’ve yet to go to Cherry, so comments
will have to wait until next month. However, the Avalon
Cruise…
The Avalon Cruise, a rarity for us sailors… those
of us that left on Thursday by 11am or after, were able
to sail all the way to the island. You power boaters are
thinking to yourselves “big deal, we always motor and
don’t want any wind anyway!” But, for us wind users, it
was great!
We had 14 boats! Thanks go to Jeff/Kathy Embree
and Al/Sandy Simmons for hosting the cruise. Addtionally, thanks go to Hans/Diane Bozler for allowing us to
invade their boat for Friday night cocktails.
In the “Purging” part, one must strip the boat completely of the previous name, have something shiny to
write the old name on for tossing into the ocean, and
be prepared to recite a lengthy incantation to the ocean
gods. So begins the incantation. “Oh mighty and great
ruler of the seas and oceans, to whom all ships and we
who venture upon your vast domain are required to
pay homage, we implore you in your graciousness to
expunge for all time from your records…” and it continues.
The “Renaming” portion of the ceremony is more
fun because it requires champagne. Lots of it! This part
consists of drinking and offering drink to Poseidon and
various other minor gods of the sea. This incantation
beginning as such… “Oh mighty and great ruler of the
seas and oceans, to whom all ships and we who venture
upon your vast domain are required to pay homage,
we implore you in your graciousness to take unto your
records and recollection this worthy vessel…” and it,
too, continues until all the drink is gone or one can’t
pronounce any of the gods names.
Guess what? Other than regular repairs and maintenance, we had no more problems with the boat. I’m a
believer and so should you!
Now, here is another random topic that may be of
interest. If one wants to or in some cases require a boat
rename, what is the appropriate action? Trust me, I
learned the hard way that you can’t just peel off the old
name and put the new name on.
In discussions with dock mates about the variety of
problems I had been having with our boat, they asked
if the “ceremony” had been performed. Huh? Ceremony? No, nothing of the sort had been done, “Oh”, they
said, “without the proper ceremony, Poseidon would be
p*ssed off and wreak much havoc on your boat.”
After investigating this “ceremony” and discovering that it included copious amounts of champagne, I
figured, it couldn’t hurt. We launched our boat with all
the family onboard and began the ceremony which goes
something like this…
Let’s not forget our June cruises. We have the Avalon Midweek. It is non-hosted and is during the week
(June 6~9) just before the Isthmus Theme Cruise. On
the weekend, we have the ever popular Isthmus Theme
Cruise, (June 10~12) hosted by the Koehlers and the
Elpers.
I hope to see you all on our upcoming cruises. Be
safe and have fun!

Catalina Fleet 24 Report
Fleet 24’s Annual Wade to Catalina
Yes, we’re back…and they said it couldn’t be done!
2016 Cruise Calendar – Upcoming:
Jun 10 – 12 – Isthmus Theme Cruise – Koehler/Elpers/Miller *
My son, Sailor Dave, is coming out to spend time with AttaGirl! and me in June. We are headed to Avalon early in the week and then on to ITC for a never-before-attempted Week On Board With Family.
Lest you think I spent my time lazing around catching up on back issues of the Lighthouse and Flyer
while some of you were sailing, hiking, spa-ing and beveraging in Avalon in May, I am pleased to tell
you that I (personally and without supervision) replaced the inverter on AttaGirl! I waited until many
were out of town. The result was that the new one actually inverted the electrical current (Tesla and
Edison are still at odds after all these years) without electrocuting your Fleet Captain or setting fire to
anything or anyone.
THE FLAMINGO FLYER
Catalina Fleet 24 – L. A. Harbor
The View from the Bilge - 2015 Year in Review, cont. (April –June)
April saw the fleet’s first Island cruise get canceled as the Avalon Cruise went down due to inclement
weather. Those who signed up for the cruise opted for cocktails at the CBYC dock and bocce ball in the
park across the street. Elsewhere in California, Governor Brown responded to the worsening drought
by announcing the creation of a Perspiration Recycling Program.
May found the fleet gathered at a cocktail party afloat in Avalon, while back in Indiana a first-time racer
won the Indianapolis 500 driving a 1974 John Deere combine harvester. It topped out at only twelve
miles per hour, but was so wide that none of the other race cars could pass it.
June featured the “Mexican Madness” Isthmus Theme Cruise with a taco bar and margaritas. Meanwhile in Sacramento, Governor Brown, in a last-ditch effort to relieve California’s drought, introduced a
controversial bill involving a pump in Lake Superior and a hose 2,000 miles long.

Part 2
Part 2 - “The"The
Boat”
Boat"by Jim Clark
Boat boarding day was all anticipation... It was
nearly impossible to wait. And, to add to the torture,
check out time from the hotel is 11:00am but we can't
get access to the
boat until 6:00pm.
We had our chart
briefing at 4:00pm
and now... we wait.
Finally after what
seems like days,
our phone rings...
our boat is ready.
We
grab
our
luggage and head
to
the
boat.
Waiting to board
Actually, we all
but ran to the boat looking just like little kids to a candy
store.
Clark, Richards, and Simmons went to Solignac, a
Jeaneau 47; Zinn / Beaver went to Shira, a Beneteau 41;
McJones / Callender went to Antinea, a Jeaneau 38;
Fisher, Koehler, Elper went to Looby Loo, a Jeaneau
44i.
Once aboard, we head to our respective cabins and
exclaim
and
lament
about
how little storage
there was. But,
as
with
all
unfamiliar boats,
the storage is
there, just in
different places.
Clothing stored,
we now had to
wait until 7:00pm
for our groceries
S/V Antinea Check-out
to arrive. The
only
problem
being that now we were getting hungry. To compound
the problem, the guy (Matt) that was to come by in the
morning to go
over the boat
with us came by
early and asked
if we wanted to
do the boat
check
now.
Well, of course,
we did, so we
could be on the
water that much
earlier. We discovered the freezer didn't work; our ice
was melting but was assured it would be fixed the next
morning, which it was. We were promised two more
bags of ice. Cool! In fact, the freezer worked so well on
the cruise, that we had those two extra bags at the end
of the cruise. Just as he was finishing, the boxes of
groceries arrived. We just put them in the cabin to be put
away after dinner.
Did we like the
boats? Yeah... true
FAB's! They sailed
fine with all the
modern features. All
lines lead aft, even
both main and jib
sheets were routed
to
the
primary
winches. That took a
little getting used
Don and Jerry checking lines
to because when
switching between jib and main sheets, the other had to
be clutched. The Clark boat had an electric winch and
wait... wait... a bow thruster! Al Simmons had a great
time with the thruster; Jim and Mike were kind of
clueless about it. The boats looked a little "used", though
none are more than 5 years old, so not too bad. Most
everything worked except Solignac's chart plotter. GPS
location was good but direction was off by about 20
degrees, which caused us to overshoot our first
destination by a couple of miles. Lost at sea on our first
day!
We were told these boats had small rigs (they didn't)
and were dog slow (they were). Solignac's main went to
the mast top and had
a 100% jib. 5.5 kts
was about max, even
in an 18 knot wind.
Oh well... we're on
island
time!
We
sailed with a single
reef most of the time
considering 18 to 22
knots of wind.
S/V Solignac
These
boats
were equipped with everything that we could want, even
snorkeling gear. The cabin fans were a necessity at
night... Temp in the 80's and a little humid. The large
bimini was great but leaked. Fortunately, it rained little.
Ninety percent of the day we spent in a very spacious
cockpit or the water whenever the feeling struck, which
was
often.
Good
boats
overall!

Live-aboard tenants need to check-in with Dean Wyer regarding their annual inspections. The Port has changed
the process but not their inspection requirements. Dean has worked up a way for you to save some money on the
inspections if we work together.
Cruisers from other clubs are heading our way and racing season is taking off. Please let Dean know if you are
leaving your slip – completing a Float Plan is very helpful to everyone. Please keep our docks clear. When the
Fire Department is running down your dock to save your boat it would be bad if they hit their head on an anchor,
tripped over a kayak, or fell on a gas can. Gas cans are never allowed on the dock.
I’m told we have a few slips open. We appreciate your help in filling them with your friends and potential members.
Summer sailing is about to start as well, so get your kids and grandkids signed up early. Don Zinn tells me you
are our best sales force!
We have large regattas coming our way this summer that will fill dry storage – the Laser Pacific Coast Championship (June 4 & 5) and the C420 North Americans (the week of August 17th).
We look forward to your continued volunteerism and support.
Kind regards,
Acting Chair, Marina Management Committee
S/C John O’Connor
Cal 20 Fleet Four
The Cal 20 Class had a great start with the Wet Wednesday One Design series in April and each boat was filled
with its maximum optimal crew load of three people. The racing has been a lot of fun and there have always
been at least five boats in the class--as of the first two Wednesdays in May, there were six and seven boats on the
starting line. It seems more Cal 20s will be coming online
as we work toward June and our goal is to get at least 10
boats on the course at a time.
The class continues to benefit from great camaraderie, big
smiles and of course, very close racing. Each Wednesday
sees place changes throughout the course and it’s always a
game of tactics, boat handling and cool nerves. Often times
the finishes are marked by differences of less than one or
two seconds between boats which is pretty amazing, but not
necessarily hard to believe, given the tenacity of the group.
If you have a Cal 20 and are thinking of getting it out on the water soon, then now is the time! There are a lot
of people who would love to get out on a boat and we need more of them to participate. Hope to see you on the
water soon!

Puerto Vallarta and Return - A Sailing Adventure (Part 2 of 2)
By Gordon Leon
The third leg of our adventure was the trip home. Fred Stritt and Carl Bergensen flew
in from Wisconsin to join Jennifer P. and me for the trip home. Fred delivers boats
on the Great Lakes and brought a portable dodger which made our trip much more
comfortable. We stayed in PV an extra couple of days waiting for a weather window.
Both Deception (Santa Cruz 50) and Time Shaver (J-125) left early and had to anchored
out until the squalls blew through. Our first day out of PV was punctuated with rain
and 20 knot winds. The second day to Cabo was flat seas and 7 kts of boat speed. We
all arrived in Cabo about the same time as Deception and Shaver. The Cabo marina
staff was extremely helpful. We found a condo and spend a couple of days waiting for
our weather window. We had a bit of trouble when the Mexican Port Captain disagreed
with our assessment of the weather and refused to authorize us to leave Cabo. We left
the next morning early and a half a day beyond our weather window.
Foil spent the next 2½ days going to Bahia Tortiga (Turtle Bay). We trolled all the way
without a single bite. However, we did see a lot of whales and dolphins. We arrived at
Turtle bay just after dark and anchored behind another sail boat. It turned out to be Time Shaver who arrived a couple of hours
before us. The next morning we had a good breakfast and got 250 liters of diesel by ponga (bring USD Cash). My only regret was
not being able to go ashore and spend some time in town. When we left Turtle Bay it was a bright and sunny morning with light
winds and fair seas, just as predicted in the gribs. However, the gribs always seemed to predict 5 to 10 kts lower wind speed than
we experienced. The big question was to go inside or outside Cedros Island. We elected to go inside to be protected from the
NW swell. We learned later that Time Shaver went outside and got totally beaten up. We had a strong tail wind as we approached
Cedros Island. By the time we reached the middle of Cedros, the wind shifted 180 degrees on the nose and remained there all
the way across Bahia Sebastian Vizcaino. The waves on that bay are terrible. Each one felt like we were being hit with a wrecking
ball. We were like bugs in a jar. They don’t call this the Baja Bash for nothing. We reached the other side just above San Carlos
anchorage and continued inside the Sacramento Reef. Legend has it that a Spanish fleet was sunk on the rocks of that reef. The
winds and waves were increasing as we passed, so we looked in Charlies Chart book for a safe harbor. Isla San Geronimo is located just north of the reef, and has a small (let me say again SMALL) cove by an abandoned fishing village, which was protected
from the NW swell. We arrived late in the afternoon. The only inhabitants were birds, seals and whales. On our first approach,
we furled the main and prepared to anchor. I asked Fred to turn down for another pass to set the anchor, but he said he couldn’t
because there was a whale in the way. He or she finally moved and we were able to set a hook in a sandy bottom. We thought we were securely at anchor and broke out the vodka tonics to celebrate, however, the anchor alarm went off and we
were drifting back out to sea. So we set an additional anchor and held fast for the rest of the night as the wind howled.
We left early with enough fuel on board to make it all the way home. When I sent out my morning position report, I got another
set of gribs that confirmed that we were at the end of our weather window. A low moved
into So Cal with 35 kt winds and high seas. We decided to turn into Ensenada when the
gusts peaked into the 30s. We stayed two days at Hotel Coral which has a nice protected
marina and rooms with hot showers and comfortable beds, while the winds blew outside.
We ran into paperwork problems again. Immigration checked us out and took our visas
back in Cabo but we did not have a proper Port Captain sign out. Luckily, the Dock Master at Hotel Coral helped us with the Ensenada officials. After an hour at the Ensenada
Port Office and many discussions in Spanish, the dock master said “no problem” and we
left with new paperwork (lesson learned, pay attention to the Mexican paperwork, insist
on copies of visas, entrance and exit paperwork, and try to only go through the process
once. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful, but they are very precise about their rules
and not very flexible). We left Ensenada after two days and motored another day and a
half to LA. What a busy harbor! The new immigration check in procedures are great.
You just give them a phone call when you enter the harbor with passport numbers and
then they meet you at your dock if they think they need to. We were all tired and hungry
when we got in, so we stopped into the Lighthouse Café for a celebratory breakfast and
then home for a nap before cleaning out Foil.
All-in- all, Jennifer and I were away for five weeks with the other Foilistas traveling for a week or two. Like all memorable adventures, there were fun parts, scary parts, and boring parts. We were never truly in danger. And we were able to experience places
that few have the opportunity to experience. It was a really great adventure!

Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club Social Activities
Note from the desk of the Social Committee...
What a wonderful Mother’s Day Brunch!
A big CBYC thank you to Kris and Val Gelineau and their helpers for a beautiful Mother’s Day Event. The
flowers were lovely, the background music was soft and warm, and the room was filled with family and
friends. The brunch was sold out – I wish we had room for more.
At our May Meeting, the majority of the discussion was about the Father’s Day Supper.
We are so lucky; Staff Commodore Mike Burch has agreed to cook for the fathers. As
I write this, Mike is planning the menu, which is a big secret, but knowing him it will
be delicious. The price will be right, $15 for adults, so if you plan to come, I suggest
reservations in advance. Supper will start at 5 p.m., and there will be a drink token for
every Father who attends. We may even show vintage sailing movies.
Lots of talk about bar parties. We want to have a “Games and Grub Night,” but we are
having trouble scheduling it. In June, the CBYC Galley will be serving bar food every Saturday and Sunday,
so the “grub part” will be handled. Perhaps at the next meeting we will find a date.
Please join us for our next meeting. We meet once a month, for only one hour, to plan upcoming events
and brainstorm new ideas. In June, the Social Committee will meet the first Thursday of the month, (June
2nd), at 6 p.m. At our next meeting we are going to talk about 4th of July Big Weekend Bash, so come with
your ideas.
We are still looking for that special person to chair the Social Committee. There are plenty of events left in
2016, so now is the time to lead the committee. Call me 213.280.0359.

The Lighthouse, June 2016
U.S. Navy Fleet Week
(previously known as Navy Days)
Sept. 2 thru Sept. 6
Navy Days Los Angeles is back
and will now be an officially rec
ognized U.S. Navy Fleet Week.
This means; more military personnel, bigger events, and in future years, maybe even air shows.
For many years, Navy Days has
been a signature event at CBYC
and we have had the privilege of
meeting our military personnel,
inviting them aboard our vessels
and allowing them to enjoy the
hospitality of our club.
CBYC will seek to continue our
tradition of hosting our military
personnel and to honor the great
foundation laid by the former
event organizer. Funding for
much of the prior year’s events was provided through the former event organizer and the generous donations of many CBYC members. The level of hospitality CBYC will be able to extend will
depend on the donations we are able to secure from our members and contacts. We hope to complete our fundraising prior to July 31st to allow sufficient time for military approval, for us to issue
the proper invitations and to promote the events at CBYC.
If we issue invitations in time, they will likely be able to confirm attendance for each event. We
are currently planning to host military personnel, sailors and marines to our Burger Bashes and
provide them with discounts in the bar. As always, we will invite sailors to sail with us on Wet
Wednesday. We have other ideas (possible Officer’s Reception, Cook Your Own, etc.)
If this is an event you want and are able to support, please contact Kevin McCloskey ([email protected]); or Karen Perrault ([email protected]) to make a donation.
Thank You,
Kevin McCloskey & Karen Perrault
