Unusual alarm clock: Chicago resident, Dorothy Gohn
was awakened in the middle of the night by an unusual kind of
alarm clock. The loud noise that brought her out of bed was a
hunk of metal over a foot long crashing through the roof of
her home, located near Midway Airport. She wasn't hurt but
the metal was hot to the touch. It was believed to have fallen
off an airplane. Wendy Abrams, a spokeswoman for the
Chicago Department of Aviation, said the incident would be
investigated. Meanwhile, a roofing company patched the hole
in Gohn's roof.
Island for sale: Interested in buying a man-made island in
the North Sea? The British created the island—a fort set on
two concrete towers—during the Second World War and
equipped it with radar equipment, armaments and 200 soldiers, who used it to guard the approach to the Thames
Estuary. It is known as Sealand, has its own flag, stamp and
passport, and is ruled by Paddy Roy Bates, aka Prince Roy, a
retired army major, who lives in the fort. The real estate is
priced at about $1.01 billion. “It comes with a great sea
view,” says Bates's son Michael.
Nice round head needed: Blane Dickinson is looking for
the perfect head to be his canvas for a unique tattoo. The 32year-old artist from Wales intends to put pen to skin and tattoo the image of the full English breakfast on someone's noggin. “I like to make people think with my art,” says Dickinson.
Ideally, he'll be drawing a plate of fried eggs, bacon and
sausages - perhaps with a side of baked beans, fried tomatoes
and toast - on his unusual canvas. A knife and fork are intended to go just behind the subject's ears. Dickinson will make
adjustments for vegetarians.
Merry Christmas: Ralph Crozier didn't have a very merry
Christmas after he learned an innocent peck on the cheek meant to extend Christmas greetings - landed him a charge of
disorderly conduct. The Waterbury, Connecticut, lawyer said it
was an example of “political correctness run amok.” The
lawyer bussed a female judicial marshall at Waterbury Superior
Court three days before Christmas. It was an act repeated by
tens of thousands of people around the state just before
Christmas and it meant no harm, Crozier said. But because
the marshall didn't invite him to kiss her, he ended up facing
criminal charges.
