Background
WHO: Houston PetSet is 501(c)(3) umbrella organization that provides grants to Houston-area animal nonprofits.
Our goal is to help those who are “in the trenches” on a daily basis rescuing, spaying, neutering, fostering,
adopting and protecting Houston’s homeless animal population. Simply put, we raise money so that we can help
support other animal non-profits in Houston. More importantly, we are an almost all-volunteer nonprofit - our
dollars go back to our cause! WHAT: Houston PetSet has its Fierce & Fabulous Soirée every September, along with other fundraisers throughout
the year. WHY: There are over 100,000 animals euthanized every year in Houston. This is a financial, environmental and
social drain on our City. Animal nonprofits work on the front lines daily to avoid this fate for thousands of dogs
and cats every year in Houston. Houston PetSet has granted nearly $1 million to help fund these efforts.
WHERE: In the past, Houston PetSet has provided grants to Houston Humane Society, Red Collar Rescue, K-9
Angels Rescue, Crime Stoppers of Houston, Buster’s Friends, Barrio Dogs, Golden Beginnings Golden Retriever
Rescue, Scout’s Honor, Jurassic Barc, Interfaith Ministries, CAP and many other worthy animal nonprofits. 2

Now more than 29 years later the successor to
Sanders Morris Mundy is one of the most successful
wealth management firms in the United States. In
addition, over 35 years ago, with the collaboration
between Nolan Ryan and Don Sanders the RyanSanders partnership was formed.
Honoree Jan Duncan
His tremendous love for animals led Don to Friends for Life, a No-Kill animal rescue and adoption
shelter where he personally financed a state-of-the-art
shelter and facility. From his business accomplishments to his dedication
and love of sports, care of animals, and compassion
for others, Don Sanders continues to embrace life to
