Store Catalog - Sid Richardson Museum
Sid Richardson Museum The Sid Richardson Museum exhibits paintings by Frederic Remington, Charles M. Russell and other well-known Western artists. The works, reflecting both the art and reality of the American West, were acquired by oilman and philanthropist Sid W. Richardson from 1942 until his death in 1959. Opened in 1982, the Museum is housed in historic Sundance Square, an area of restored turn-of-the-century buildings in downtown Fort Worth. The Sid Richardson Museum is just minutes from major interstate highways and within easy walking distance from downtown hotels. Admission is free. The Museum Store is filled with unique Western merchandise reflecting the art and beauty of the Old West. In addition to paper prints of the Museum’s paintings, we offer prints on canvas, both framed and unframed, and hot-cast bronzes made by the original lost-wax method. Many of our products are from local artisans and include handmade lariat baskets, jewelry, and dried floral arrangements. We offer Mata Ortiz pottery and a wide variety of seasonal items including our Western Santas and Christmas ornaments. Our children’s corner is filled with books, toys and games for the young and has many children’s gift ideas for parents and grandparents. Our web site is available for easy, convenient and secure shopping and quick delivery: https://www.sidrichardsonmuseum.org/store. While on the site, be sure and visit our "Out of Print Books" and "New Items" sections for updates on available products. For further information on the Store and for wholesale inquiries, contact Monica Herman at the Museum, or e-mail: monica@ sidrichardsonmuseum.org. Our Museum offers many images of oil paintings by these two artists and those of several other well-known Western artists, both on high-quality paper S8300 2 1/4”" S8301 3 1/2”" and as framed or unframed prints on canvas (canvas transfers). The prints on canvas are made by actually lifting the image off the print paper and applying it to a prepared canvas. After the canvas is dried and fitted to a S8254 2 1/4” S8257 3" stretcher it can be completed in either a smooth finish or with brush strokes. Brush strokes are achieved by using clear acrylic and going over the canvas as if actually painting the picture. When the acrylic dries it gives the impression 526-44 2 1/2” of brush strokes. The choice of smooth finish or brush strokes is that of the W8207 3 1/2” customer and most daylight scenes lend themselves very well to brush strokes. However we highly recommend a smooth finish for night scenes since, in those, lighting can cause reflection if brush strokes are applied. These prints 526-49 2 1/2” W8206 3 1/2” on canvas are treated with a UV protective coating and will not fade from exposure to light, so they may be enjoyed for years to come. 19 W56 308 W307W307 P83250 W56 EC500 P80295 EC6060 572-40 P6559 Prints Only Print # Print Name P83284 987 80237 Prints on Canvas Museum Image Size (W x H) Please see Key to Museum Codes on page 26. (See page 41 for special bronze care brush.) 33 Bronzes: Frederic Remington Remington understood the difficulties of the cowboy way of life and how wild they would act when the occasion allowed. They could relax, enjoy their liquor and let off steam. The original piece was 23 inches in height and took Remington several months to complete. This casting depicts a sergeant of the Rough Riders, showing his toughness along with a sense of weariness from battle. Remington, himself, rode with the Rough Riders in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. At the time this was cast, it was expected to allow more of the public to purchase bronzes because of the lower cost of a small figure. Coming Through the Rye (1902) 34 02-0211 15” H (desk) 45 lbs. $4,995.00 The Sergeant (1904) 02-0212 28” H (full) 300 lbs. $6,995.00 02-0345 11 1/2” H (full) 11 lbs. $395.00 In 1905 Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park Art Association commissioned this piece as a 12 foot tall statue. Upon completion, Remington felt it was a true depiction of the American cowboy. It is one of the earliest site-specific works in the US and the only large-scale bronze by Remington. The Rattlesnake (1905) The Cowboy (1908) 02-0226 02-0227 13” H (desk) 24” H (full) Originally a 21 inch tall piece, this exciting work depicts a horse and rider as they react to a rattlesnake ready to strike. The rider grasps his cowboy hat and the reins as he struggles to maintain control. 15 lbs. 60 lbs. $695.00 02-0218 14” H (desk) 18 lbs. $695.00 $1,500.00 02-0219 24” H (full) 50 lbs. $1,500.00 35 Bronzes: Frederic Remington Frederic Remington’s first bronze sculpture, portraying a skilled and confident rider breaking in a wild horse, went on to become his most popular. A great supporter of the Cavalry, Remington’s exciting bronze shows a plains cavalryman in suspended action with an accurate model of a galloping horse. He depicts the horse and rider almost floating above the base, successfully achieving a feeling of true motion. The original was 27 inches tall and weighed about 58 pounds. Bronco Buster (1895) 36 02-0454 9.5” H (mini) 8 lbs. $350.00 Trooper of the Plains (1909) 02-0214 14” H (desk) 18 lbs. $695.00 02-0230 14” H (desk) 24 lbs. $695.00 02-0215 24” H (full) 45 lbs. $1,500.00 02-0231 27” H (full) 85 lbs. $2,000.00 Remington created this bronze shortly before his death in December, 1909. It was assembled in 1910 by Sally Farnham, a friend of Remington. The four longhorns and horse and rider are a true depiction of the hectic activity of the cattle drive. Originally the casting was over 21 inches tall and 44 inches long. The Stampede (1910) Originally 28 inches tall, rider and horse are carefully descending a steep mountain side. The rider grasps the reins while his flintlock rests across his saddle. The Mountain Man (1923) 02-0228 10” H (desk) 65 lbs. $1,500.00 02-0216 14” H (desk) 17 lbs. $695.00 02-0229 16” H (full) 150 lbs. $3,995.00 02-0217 29” H (full) 45 lbs. $1,500.00 37 Bronzes: Frederic Remington Here we see a cowboy on horseback, slumped in his saddle, in a storm with a cold wind blowing from behind. He is doing his best to survive the elements. Originally 22 inches tall, this was Remington’s first effort in the lost wax method, which allowed him more detail. The Cheyenne depicts an Indian pony galloping with all feet off the ground as he flies along. The Indian rider sits on a Buffalo robe as he rushes into battle with his spear at the ready. Originally 21 ½ inches tall. The Cheyenne (1901) The Norther (1900) 02-0220 38 23” H (full) 45 lbs. $1,500.00 02-0222 13” H (desk) 15 lbs. $695.00 02-0223 23” H (full) 40 lbs. $1,500.00 Bronzes: Charles M. Russell The famous Texas Longhorn that Charlie Russell knew as a young man on the range in Montana had all but disappeared by the time he cast this bronze. These steers were suited to the open range and the men who worked it. Originally 4 1/8 inches tall. The Texas Steer (1925) 02-0248 5” H (full) Created in 1901, Wolf with Bone was not cast until the late 1920’s, after Charles Russell’s death. Russell was fascinated by these wily wolves that harassed the rancher at the turn of the century. The original sculpture was 5 ¼ inches tall and done in plaster. Wolf with Bone (1901) 7 lbs. $395.00 02-0347 6” H (full) 8 lbs. $395.00 39 Bronzes: Charles M. Russell | Bronzes: James Earle Fraser Charles Russell’s first bronze shows the cowboy returning to camp full of the happiness of alcohol, shooting his gun with one hand and holding his horse in check with the other. The End of the Trail | Fraser (1901) Smoking Up | Russell (1903) 02-0232 40 12” H (full) No one is quite sure whether this bronze shows sorrow and defeat for the Indian, or transition to a new spiritual life in the 20th century.
