ONIC Community Prodigy Cultural Arts
The Prodigy Cultural Arts Program is a research proven,
diversion, intervention and prevention project that provides a safe arena where children ages 7-17 learn communication, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
through the visual and performing arts. ONIC offers this program at two rental communities
and at a City of Orlando community center. Another location in Pine Hills will open in 2011.
In 2010, ONIC served 600 youth in this program.
Prodigy utilizes a Positive Youth Development Model and employs an asset-based design that
views each child as having inherent skills, talents, and abilities to be nurtured and developed. The
visual and performing arts classes are an enjoyable way for youth to avoid delinquent behavior
and to develop positive life skills.
Prodigy is a project of the University Area Community Development Corporation, Inc. in collaboration with the of South Florida School of Social Work, Bay Area Youth Services, Inc. and community and faith-based organizations.
Prodigy promotes positive attitudes while deterring undesirable behavior. The program provides
opportunities for individuals to nurture interests and talents, learn new skills, and gain personal
or group recognition.

“…. affordable housing should be a ‘platform for a decent life.’ The overarching purpose of
such housing is to be a foundation on which a family can assemble the main elements of its
future: its ability to earn a decent income, raise children, see to the health and well-being of
its members, and pursue education and self improvement.”
-James Rouse, Founder of the Enterprise Foundation and the Rouse Company
