Animal Services ensures that London residents and visitors, as well as the animals in our
community are protected and cared for. Animal Services promotes responsible actions throughout
the community and supports animal welfare initiatives.
The following is a compilation of ongoing and completed Animal Services programs for 2015/2016.

City Veterinary Companion Animal Hospital
Animal Services staff, the City of London Facilities
team, a veterinarian, and a consulting design firm
have developed the facility layout. A site plan has
been completed and is under review. The tender
for the mobile building should go out shortly.
Pet Rewards Card Program
Currently there are 42 participating vendors
(pet and non-pet related) offering discounts
on products or services. We are seeking more
vendors for this program and will continue to
expand this program.

Proactive Licensing Enforcement Pilot
Using the services of two post-secondary
students from May – August 2015 the project
generated more than 1500 new pet licences
and provided public education on responsible
pet ownership.
Cat Adoption Centre
Animal Services secured a service provider for
the cat adoption centre. A site was acquired and
we are projecting a summer of 2016 opening.
Super Adoption Day
Community interest remains strong in this
annual event. Adoptions of 45 dogs/cats took
place in a single day. Various rescue groups were
successful in attracting more foster homes and
volunteers (15 foster home applications and
5 volunteer applications).

Approved Foster Organizations
Currently, Animal Services has approved
14 rescue groups. In 2015, Animal Services issued
312 foster tags for dogs and foster cards for a
greater number of cats. These were issued to
rescue groups to exempt licensing fees for dogs/
cats in foster care. Animal Services promotes
fostering in several ways including links to rescue
groups on their webpage.

Parks Patrol
In 2015 a pilot project was introduced to provide
Animal Control by-law enforcement within
City parks and along the multi-use pathway
system. The pilot project was implemented to
determine if continued enforcement is required.
An Animal Control Officer monitored the parks
system by travelling along the multi-use pathway
using a customized golf cart. This served both
educational and enforcement purposes.
Greater Use of Social Media
A “Pet of the Week” program through London
Animal Care Centre was implemented and
supported via the City of London Twitter feed to
stimulate adoptions at London Animal Care. It has
proven very successful and most featured pets are
adopted within a week of their posting. Many pet
adoption events including those held at London
Animal Care Centre are publicized on social media
and the Animal Care Centre’s website.
