A Note From Joan: - Clothes Less Traveled
Volume 8, Issue 12, December 2014 Published by: Pam Adams A Note From Joan: Holiday Greetings To All: What a wonderful time of the year, to express gratitude and love to others. On behalf of the entire Clothes Less Traveled Board of Directors, Thank You for your dedication to volunteering, donating and shopping at CLT this year. I hope your Christmas season is filled with joy and peace, surrounded by family and loved ones. 2014 was another rewarding year at CLT with the ability to assist those less fortunate through our voucher program (VIP) reaching new levels. What a wonderful feeling that is, as well as the additional Grantees that CLT was able to support. Opportunities in 2015 are endless! I shared with the staff a few weeks ago that the Board of Directors engaged with a professional consultant in October and November to assist in the development of improving our total operation. With the addition of 5 new board members and the guidance of the business consultant, look for positive changes. Foremost on the list will be Safety Awareness for the staff, volunteers and shoppers. Look for improved communications and timely information happenings at CLT simply by visiting the break room, including details on all of the Grantees. This is just a very short list of things to come in 2015. As always, my very best to you and your family for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! November 2014 ~ A bove & Beyond Our November Above and Beyond recipient is Marie Powers. Marie has been a volunteer with The Clothes Less Traveled since 1997! Marie remembers Mary Ann Cox opening and giving the keys to the volunteers to pass to the “closer” volunteer and retrieving keys at the end of the day. Marie has done a little bit of everything, she finds working on the floor is what she loves the best, and because she is a “control freak” she wants the floor to look great for the morning shift coming in. In 2013 in addition to volunteering twice a month on Thursday evenings Marie is helping our Volunteer Grant Coordinator, Wendy Binfield, by working behind the scenes with grant letter formatting, editing and personalizing correspondence for the Grant Organizations. She loves using her talents, loves computer work and thinks she and Wendy make a great team! We all agree. When not volunteering Marie works full time as a staff writer virtually for a Biotech Newsletter. Marie is married to Chuck, who is a new Board Member for The Clothes Less Traveled and a previous Above and Beyond/Heart of the Community Recipient. The love of The Clothes Less Traveled runs in the family. Daughter, Kathleen was a summer intern and currently lives in Texas. Son, John is serving our Country in the Air Force, currently stationed overseas. Marie and Chuck are expecting their first grandchild any day! Maybe we can recruit more of the family in future years! Marie, we are grateful for your dedication and service through the years and look forward to many more! 2014 Board of Directors Joan Velsmid President Wendy Binfield Vice President Diane Bartels Secretary Chris Baran Treasurer Jennie Loper Store Manager Jim Kulaga Human Relations Dick Allis Maintenance Janet McGregor-‐Dunn Public Relations/Advertising Wendy Binfield Grant Coordinator Diane Bartels Scholarships/Intern Program December Happy Birthday’s Magdalena Artiles Dana Wood Tina Blenkush Barbara McCord Bonnie Smelley Karen Wesley Sylvia Nolde Carlyle Benavent Eve Hutchinson Ken King Melissa Odom Tom Round Stacey Benefiel 2 5 6 10 11 12 14 19 19 25 29 29 30 Jennie’s Desk As Christmas approaches please know our hearts are full of Thanks for all the time you have spent with us this year.
