excursion to Kloster Maulbronn
Maulbronn Monastery, founded in 1147, is an impressive
document of the Cistercian culture and the best-preserved
monastery complex north of the Alps. In the Middle Ages it
was an important political, economic and social center.
Following the onset of the Reformation, the monastery was
converted into a Protestant monastery school (1556). The
Protestant theological seminary founded in 1807 still exists today.
In 1993 Maulbronn Monastery was added to the "World Cultural
Heritage" list as a UNESCO world cultural monument.
