Every one must be in a quilting frame of mind. Connie and Peggy are going to be looking for people to fill the work force for the quilt show. It would be nice to let them know you are available. Fat Quarters February Patriotic March Panels ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Comfort Block Every bit helps from baking cookies, floor walking, taking tickets or working the Quilters Market. There Mocha Swirl Bright colors and lights Instructions, Pg. 6 are jobs for everyone. If we all work together our show will continue to be a success. Comfort Block Sew In February 13, 2016 10:00—? Patrick’s I've been busy trying to find fabric for the mystery quilt without a shopping trip. I figure if it comes from my stash it's a "free "project since the money has already been spent. I'm not saying that a shopping trip is a bad thing but sometimes the stash just seems to take on a life of it's own. I have a theory that fat quarters must come into the sewing room pregnant, that's why I can look in a bin and have no memory whatsoever where a particular piece came from. Scary isn't it? So back to the sewing room. So many quilts so little time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Refreshments February Cindy Eccles, Suzanne Orwig, Pat Church March Alice Rears, Linda Chance, Gerry Devorak ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Newsletter Deadline By 5pm-Please The Friday after the guild meeting ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Editors Nancie DeProspero 925-997-9188 [email protected] Peggy Fulton 208-743-3267 [email protected] Nanda Meetings are held at: Valley Community Center 549 5th Street, Clarkston, WA. 7 PM on usually the 4th Monday Next Meeting—February 22, 2016 1 ~~~~~~~~ Website www.seaportquilters.com Web Master Keesje Mills 208-553-2281 [email protected] Officers 2015-2016 President Nanda Lamb 208-746-1421 Vice-President Jacki Ficker 208-746-2769 Secretary Lori Hatch 509-758-6923 Treasurer Kathy Smolinski 208-791-2592 Newsletter Nancie DeProspero Peggy Fulton Sunshine /Membership Carolyn Crawford 208-746-7121 Library Carolyn Shull 508-904-2123 Comfort Quilts Connie Watkins 509-758-8521 Diane Adams 509-758-2030 Fat Quarters Pat Martin 509-243-4589 Corla Hughes 208-816-0575 Block of the Month Vicki Martin 509-592-0192 Birthdays February 2/4, Marilyn Kidder Shirley Sears 2/5 Joyce Anderson 2/6 Deanna Grimm 2/7, Gayle Fleming 2/17, Sue Towne 2/21, Kay Curran 2/22, Keesje Mills 2/27, Jodi Bodily 2/28, Melody Ruddell Loy Smead March 3/3, Kari Lineberry Dana Chandler 3/13, Janice Stickler 3/16, Colleen Blair Kerry Hamilton Barb Reddekopp 3/19, Nancy Wood 3/24, Danna Bolich 3/25, Sheri Sargent 3/26, Dixie Van Leuven 3/27, Joan McCarley Comfort Quilt Sew Day February 13, 2016 Patrick’s Craft Shop 10:00—4:00 No need to make a reservation. Directions for BOM for February SPLIT RAIL VARIATION You will receive 3 pieces of flannel: 1= 6 ½ X 12 ½ 2= 3 ½ X 12 ½ Sew the 3 ½ X 12 ½ strips to either side of the biggest piece. You will end up with an easy 12 ½ X 12 ½ Block. Enjoy Looking Ahead In January we handed out three pieces of flannel for a rail fence block that will be a 12 1/2" X 12 1/2" unfinished block. We will collect these and draw winners for the flannel blocks at the Feb. meeting. At that same meeting we will have two star block patterns for you to choose from. Those blocks will be collected at the March meeting -- there will be no drawing for these star blocks until after the quilt show because they will be used to decorate the hallway at the show. This process will be repeated with two new star blocks given out in March and returned in April. The drawing for all the star blocks will occur at our May meeting. We appreciate your help with this project! The BOM and Hallway Committee 5 Comfort Quilt Block for February—MOCHA SWIRL This makes an 8 1/2 inch block and is part of the pinwheel family The comfort committee is asking for blocks with jewel tones this month. Cut 2 1/2 inch strips from two different fabrics. An off white or white on white and a color of your choice. From these 2 1/2 inch strips cut: Four light strips to make 2 1/2” X 3 1/2 “ rectangles Four light strips to make 2 1/2 “ X 4 1/2 “ rectangles Four colored strips to make 2 1/2 “ X 3 1/2 “ rectangles From the 2 1/2” X 3 1/2” rectangles create four split units: Step 1: on the back side of the light 2 1/2” X 3 1/2 “ rectangles measure 1 inch from the bottom right and make a mark on the right side of the rectangle. Draw a line from the one inch mark to the opposite corner. Step 2: Place the light 2 1/2” X 3 1/2” rectangle on top of the colored rectangle at a 45 degree angle, right sides together and sew on the marked line. Trim away the excess fabric and press. Your “split unit” should measure 4 1/2” X 2 1/2 “ Join the split unit rectangle with the 2 1/2’ X 4 1/2” light rectangle to make 1/4 of the square. Join the four units together to create the Mocha Swirl pictured above. 6 Seaport Quilter’s Guild About Seaport Quilt Guild: Our purpose is to promote and enhance the art of quilting and quilt making by exhibitions, lectures, workshops, to encourage fellow quilt enthusiasts by participating in traditional home quilting bees, and finally to educate and increase the knowledge of quilting techniques.
