Knock Sensors
Function: Knock sensors direct the ECM to advance timing for optimal performance. They also
measure vibrations caused by pre-ignition and then signal the ECM to retard timing.
Situation: Brittle piezos break, internal connections fail, or moisture leaks into the case.
Solution: Wells Advantage
OE piezoceramics are brittle – Wells are specially sintered to reduce fractures. Extra-strength epoxies bond
piezos into position. Trivalent iridescent chromate plating prevents corrosion. Silicone o-rings prevent
moisture incursion. Glass-reinforced thermoplastic polyester (PBT) connectors provide increased strength.
Repair tips:
-Clean surface mounting areas
-Remove all corrosion
-Clean block with thread chaser
-Torque to specification
