Sprouting, Growing, Budding, & Blooming Park News:
First of all, we would like to welcome Joan Brunswick as our newest Park Board
member. Thanks for helping us out, by filling the empty nest.
A big thanks to everyone that attended or coordinated (Shelia and library staff),
and made Kites in the Park and Eye Spy a success this year. About 55 attended
the event and we hope you had fun flying kites.
Mr. Strickland and the Anna High School Jazz Band did a wonderful job of
entertaining about 75 people on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Thanks to all who
attended and to Mr. Strickland and the band for taking time out to show us your
musical talents.
Culpepper and Merriweather Circus came to town in late May. Thanks to everyone that came to the circus or helped in any way to make the circus a success.
New Equipment will be coming to the park from a Nature Works Grant. We
applied and received a grant for a new swing set. The swing set will be 3 bays of
which 1 bay will be ADA accessible. We also received a $5000 grant from Honda

around the walking path.

MAYOR’S MOMENT:
Hi Neighbors,
I think we have all said it, “this has been the longest winter of my life!” — But all of a sudden spring is finally here
and it is beautiful.
With spring this year comes “Track Side Treats” and along with the robins, it is a wonderful harbinger of spring.
From the looks of the many customers, I would say they are being welcomed, to town, with open arms.
Our Anna Fire Department helped usher in spring with a nice pancake breakfast on May 4th. If you missed it, its too
bad for you. The proceeds of the breakfast went to the Relay for Life for cancer research. Thanks for the attendance
and a BIG thanks to Tim Bender and crew.
Our Anna Police Department has been working closely with the Anna Schools keeping a watchful eye on the continuing welfare of our most important and precious “possessions” — our children. Back in the middle of April, Chief
Scott Evans with the excellent program provided through the National Child Safety Council presented a wonderful
safety program to all of Anna’s kindergarten through 5th grade boys and girls.
The middle school students (grades 6, 7, and 8) received a program concentrating on the dangers of drugs usually
starting with prescription drug abuse, sometimes from their own medicine cabinet. Chief Evans presented the drug
abuse program including the terrible life destroying effects of heroin use. The 6th grade was on May 6th, the 8th
grade was on May 12th and the 7th grade May 14th.
We are sorry to report that Kurt Ehemann has resigned from the Anna Council because of health problems. We also
lost Richard Steinke at the end of his term, in December 2013. We will miss you both and thank you for all your hard
work that has benefited the Village residents.
Please try to attend 2 open house events on Thursday, June 5th from 4-7pm. One is at Baker Chiropractic and the
other at Anna Family Eye Care. They are located in our new “mini-mall” at 515 E. Main St., Suites A and B.
I believe ….. That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but, we are responsible for
who we become.
Have a great summer!!

FROM THE DESK OF THE VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR
Administration
The Town Hall roof will be replaced this summer. We had several leaks last winter. We tried to put off this expense as long as
possible, but now it must be done.
Three of the storage units behind the Town Hall will be revamped to accommodate the police cruisers.
Park
1.
2.
3.
4.
The school has received a grant and will be replacing the tree tags in the park with in-ground plaques.
The new swing set has arrived. It will be installed this fall. It will be larger and one bay will house a wheel chair swing. A
handicapped seat and rubber ground mats will also be incorporated.
The tennis court refinishing has been delayed. It was determined that the project was too large to do in-house and so we are asking for quotes from reputable providers.
A waterline has been installed to the east side of the park. This project also entailed adding a drinking fountain near the
tennis courts.
Land Use
1.
The entire Village will be assessed for sidewalks. Current walks will be inspected to determine if they need repaired and
plans will be made for all areas that don’t have sidewalks. Council will approve an ordinance to set the program in motion.
Streets/Alleys
1.
South Second Street will be repaved this summer. The design is to start at Young Street and end at Diamond Drive.
2.
The Main Street cutout will also be patched.
3.
Children at Play signs will be erected on the east/west alleys behind US Bank and the Town Hall.
4.
Pricing is being gotten to stripe the parking spaces and crosswalks down Main Street and around the School.
Utilities
1.
The water plant filter media will be replaced this summer.
Nancy L. Benroth
P.S. Please keep your grass mowed and your property cleaned- up. Enforcement will be done this year.
WEED & GRASS REGULATIONS:
Weed Ordinance #1486-06
Regulates grass and weeds within the Village. Village residents/property owners will now only
receive one (1) written notice from the Police Department when in violation. Residents/Property
Owners are considered to be in violation when grass and/or weeds exceed eight (8) inches in height.
If found to be in violation of this ordinance, the Village will see that weeds and/or grass are cut and
removed. Such cutting and removing shall be at the owner’s expense and the costs, together with an
administrative fee of twenty percent (20%) shall be assessed against the lot or land. Such
administrative fee shall not exceed two hundred ($200.00). For a complete copy of this
ordinance #1486-06, please call or stop by at the Village Office.
TORNADO SAFETY INFORMATION:
If a tornado “watch” is issued for your area, it means that a tornado is possible.
If a tornado “warning” is issued it means that a tornado has actually been spotted, or is strongly
indicated on radar and it is time to take shelter immediately.

Listen to a weather radio or your local radio or television stations for information. Be alert to
changing weather conditions. Look for approaching storms.

Look for the following danger signs:

Dark, often greenish sky

Large hail

A large, dark, low-lying cloud (particularly if rotating)

Loud roar, similar to a freight train.

If you see approaching storms or any of the danger signs, be prepared to take shelter
immediately

They may strike quickly, with little or no warning.
In a House:
- Stay away from windows.
- Go to the lowest floor to hide.
- Hide in a closet or bathroom that is in the middle of the home.
In a Car:
- If you can’t drive away from the tornado, lie down flat in a ditch and cover your head.
