Life Together as God’s People
The Blessing of Neighbors! The people of
the Stockholm neighborhood came to the Pork
Chop Dinner and the Antique Tractor Show in
these past days. They came in droves--people of
all kinds, from all backgrounds, former members,
people who travel around a lot, Stockholm
members and friends, and people who are just
looking for a place to enjoy God’s great gift of
food!
These events are a great place to meet
people, renew acquaintances, or just “catch up” a
little bit. You can talk about crops and the
weather, people you know, or you can talk about
all the places people have been (near and far),
which are displayed on their shirts and caps.
Having neighbors and a neighborhood is a
blessing. It is good to connect with others, to have
time for fellowship with others, to talk to the
people who live near by, share a little bit of your
lives with each other.
Celebrate and give thanks to God for your
neighbors!
Jesus the Good Shepherd statue
Sunday, June 19 we dedicated a large
statue of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, that was given
by Dennis Terning, in recognition of the 150th
anniversary of Stockholm, and God’s faithfulness
through the years. It is made of chainsaw-carved
white oak, very beautiful and very meaningful.
Many thanks to Dennis for this wonderful
artwork to Stockholm!
God’s Work, Our Hands!
Plans are being made to make Rally
Sunday a bit different this Fall. The children will
still gather at 9:00 am to find their room, and do
the usual first-day things, ending with the Balloon
Release. However, it will be much shorter.
We plan to complete the Sunday School
portion by about 9:30, and then have a brief
worship service, from 9:35 to about 10:05.
Then everyone who is participating
(families stay together) will go to various parts of
Cokato to do service projects. Your Council and
Worship Committee are working on finding
various simple projects-outdoors and indoors.
Around 11:45, we plan to meet and eat at a park,
and share some fellowship time.
“God’s Work, Our Hands” is a program
that the ELCA invites congregations to be
involved with, to be witnesses of God’s love, to
have an impact on the community, and to “be the
hands and feet of Jesus.” We are reminded of the
theme of this program every time we enter
worship, as we see a banner with those words on
it, created by Mary Ann Ryan.
We look forward to this new initiative for
starting out our Sunday School year, and hope you
will make plans to join us! More details will be
coming, as well as sign-up sheets for you to
indicate your interest.
Stockholm’s social media footprint
Stockholm has had a website and Facebook page
for quite some time, and we have used them as
tools for ministry/communication. We are
working hard to use those tools more effectively,
as well as add the tools of Instagram and Twitter.
Kelly Peterson has been working to add
these last two social media tools, which will make
our website more even more effective.
We would like to create a web team, to
provide input and suggest ideas toward this goal.
Let us know if you are interested in the web team,
or have ideas for the team to consider.
Prayers (In addition to those in the bulletin)
*For those who attend the 150th
anniversary celebration, that their faith grows as
they realize how God has blessed Stockholm
through the years.
*For favorable weather for the crops in
gardens and fields.
*For times of rest and relaxation with
family and friends in these summer months.
* For people (candidates and voters) to
hear God’s voice in this chaotic political
campaign.
Peace and new life to you from our Lord Jesus!
Pastor Mark Little

like it could, but need someone who has time
to update it on a regular basis. Pastor will be

adjustment on the land across the road from
the church that we are selling, the money from
the sale will be going in the Endowment Fund.
Following up on if there are any income tax
from the sale. Had discussion on a few ideas
on now to camouflage the gas tank. The corner
of the cemetery and the picnic shelter, people
have been driving on the corner graves when
driving through there. The family would like
the church to put up a barricade, shrubbery or
something to make it visual that it is not a
road/ driveway. We have a $1,000.00 donation
to pay for this project. Followed up on the

Speakers Dan Conrad of the

Pastor LeMoyne Boleman
out of town. And, Pastor Mark has
been working diligently on planning
the Anniversary Worship Service
along with Heidi working with the
Choir on special music. Finally,
we all know how much we love our
Potlucks! The food is always
phenomenal.
The Legacy Committee has worked
extremely hard to raise funds and
plan an anniversary weekend that we
hope you will enjoy and be proud of
because 150 YEARS is a REALLY BIG
DEAL! We are looking forward to
greeting and catching up with many
of you. ALL ARE WELCOME so invite
your family, friends and neighbors
to come and be a part of the
Stockholm Lutheran Church 150th
Anniversary celebration where we
will celebrate and thank God for
all he has provided. We are truly
"Grateful for God's Goodness Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow". We
hope it will be a celebration to
remember.
During the 150th Anniversary events
at Stockholm Lutheran Church,
please do not park on County Road
30. There will be parking
attendants stationed at the entry
of the church parking lot who will
direct you or, you can go directly
to the Stockholm Community Center
for parking and walk through the
cemetery to the church. We are
also working on providing some
shuttle service for those who don't
want to walk.
The Closing Service for the
Anniversary celebration on Sunday,
July 17th will include a few
speakers who will share a Stockholm
memory. We will also allow anyone
else who has a special memory to
share, the time to share that
memory. We wanted to communicate
this prior to the event so folks
would have time to think about this
a bit. We are hopeful that those
in attendance will leave their
"bashfulness" at the door and share
a special memory or a piece of
interesting history regarding
Stockholm. The Legacy Committee
has heard many stories throughout
the course of the last 2+ years and
these stories are priceless and
interesting for others to hear in
order to understand some of the
history of Stockholm Lutheran
Church and the Stockholm community.
Please search through your memory
bank and share if you feel
comfortable enough to do so. We
thank you for your participation!
Don't forget.... Sunday, July 17th
will include a Potluck Picnic.
Stockholm Lutheran Church is known
for their great cooks and fantastic
food. We are anticipating that we
will have guests in attendance on
Sunday and many have traveled from
out of state, may be staying in a
hotel and may not have the ability
to bring a dish to share. Let's
show them how Stockholm rolls when
it comes to Potlucks and put on the
feedbag with great food and lots of
it! Many thanks to the
congregation for all that you do!
Thank you to those who have donated
money toward flowers for the
Anniversary weekend in memory or
honor of a Stockholm loved one. We
have had an overwhelming response.
Money will be used to purchase
altar flowers and arrangements
throughout the church in addition
to flowers outside. Any leftover
money will be used by the Gardening
Committee to enhance the church
grounds as needed. If you haven't
taken the time to look recently,
take a walk throughout the church
grounds to see the wonderful work
the Gardening Committee does to
make the church grounds "pop" with
color in the choice of beautiful
flowers and plants they have chosen
to plant and nurture. These
flowers require work, they don't
prune and water themselves so if
you get an opportunity to enjoy the
beauty, please also take the time
to thank members of the Gardening
Committee for their hard work and
dedication.
In addition, we also have a
committee that works on keeping the
playground area free of weeds and
clean. This is also no small task.
Thank you to them as well for all
that they do to keep the church
grounds looking "spiffy". Keeping
up on the weeds is an endless task
as we all know so please, thank
those folks as well. All committee
members are listed in the Church
Directory if you are interested in
seeing who is responsible for all
of this Good Work!
Thanks to ALL who donated items for
the Tractor Show Flea Market.
Also, thanks to those who helped
out with intake, pricing and
working the sale. Your assistance
was appreciated more than you know!
The sale was once again a success
with many folks being blessed with
treasures they were excited to
purchase and at a low price to
boot! Unsold items were donated to
the Cokato Thrift Store, Cokato
Library and the Disabled Veterans
Administration.
