The panelists represent a long-term care and retirement facility, a network systems company, and a legal expert in health technology policy. They will discuss how mobile technology can improve access to care and increase patient engagement, and how these innovative technologies will challenge providers, payers, data analysts and other health care stakeholders to adapt their systems and processes. Big Data Interoperability: Connecting Administrative, Clinical, and Patient-Generated Data New England has some of the leading health information exchanges in the U.S. As technology rapidly advances, these exchanges will be challenged with not only transmitting administrative and clinical data among providers, but data generated by patients through mobile devices as discussed in our previous panel. The panelists represent HIEs and data organizations in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire, and the discussion will be moderated by the New England HIMSS Board HIE liaison. Keynote Address: Juhan Sonin, Involution Studio Remember doctor's visits when you were growing up? The wooden tongue depressor. The wellworn stethoscope. That weird thing they jammed in your ears. And now, my young children are getting about that same treatment. But that is going to change. As design harnesses digital, materials and networking technologies, a very new health experience is just over the horizon. Proactive, lifestyle design. Tracking real-time health data. Non-invasive tools. Custom "just for you" treatments based on your actual genome. These are all real technologies, being used by ordinary people. Together they are leading us to "stage zero" detection and treatment which has the potential to double or better the lifespan of every first-world citizen. Not science fiction, the children of the 2020s will only know this reality. Tongue depressors will be limited to school craft projects and popsicles. And it is all the product of technology and design. From Bathroom to Healthroom introduces participants to the macro factors shaping these realities, along with an in-depth exploration of the various impacts of and opportunities for design. Innovators Pitch-a-thon As part of our theme of innovation, we’re having a competition of new, dynamic companies that will make brief presentations about their products and solutions. The attendees will have the opportunity to vote on the best presenters, and then these companies will win a prize. This will be a “mini-Datapalooza” for New England HIMSS members. Innovations in Care Delivery Throughout the day we have learned about innovations in mobile devices, data exchange and analysis, software design, and various initiatives presented by the Pitch-a-thon participants. We’ll conclude our program by discussing ways that these ideas can be implemented delivering care to patients. The discussion will be moderated by Stacey Eccleston of HCI3, which has been an innovator in developing value-based purchasing solutions.
