News from the Front Office:
Tuition rates went home on Friday, via
email for the new school year. Unfortunately, the rates did go up because of
various reasons. In January 2016, the
hourly wage will increase again in California, which will have an impact on
our rates. The cost of benefits that the
school has to pay for employees went
up 20%. The “lab fee” is now included
in the base tuition, so therefore, you
will not be receiving a separate bill in
October.
Don’t forget~ We are once again offering our “Refer A Friend” program. If
you refer a family to our school and
they enroll and stay, you will receive
one month’s free tuition! We did have
several families this year that were able
to be tuition free for a month! So
please talk to your friends about all the
wonderful things happening at GSCS!
8th Grade Field Trip on the USS Howard
with Ms. Howard
GSCS ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
Amy Sweeney attended Good Shepherd Catholic School from 2000 to 2009. Her favorite memory from her time at Good Shepherd was the Star of India field trip that
her class took in the 5th grade. It was an overnight trip where her class learned all
about the history of the ship and even learned how to do the same jobs that sailors
did hundreds of years ago. Amy has many other great memories that include the 8th
grade trip to Disneyland, competing in the Academic Decathlon, and Olympic day
each year. At Mira Mesa High School, she excelled in her classes, especially English,
thanks to the strong start that she received from Good Shepherd. When Amy graduated, she received the Scholar Athlete of the Year award, and her GPA was in the top
10% of students in the San Diego School District. Currently she is in her second year
at The University of California Berkeley. She is an Interdisciplinary Studies Field major, and Amy is planning to graduate a year early in May 2016. Afterward, she hopes
to attend law school at USD. She is still very involved in extracurricular activities including the Cal Boxing Club team, holding a leadership position in the Alpha Phi sorority, and attending Interfaith Shabbat which attempts to encourage understanding
and respect between the different faiths at Cal.
Amy feels that attending Good Shepherd has benefitted her in more ways than she
could ever list, but most importantly GSCS gave her the
gifts of a strong faith and strong work ethic. Being away
from family has been very difficult for her, but with the
support that comes with the community at Newman
(Berkeley’s Catholic Church) and prayer, she is able to
make it through the rough moments. Academically, GSCS
taught Amy to always work her hardest and with the solid foundation that she received, she has continued to
succeed – taking on a heavy course load and making the
Dean’s Honor List of the top 4% of Berkeley students in
the last two semesters.
