Magnificent discoveries await you as you experience the lifestyle of some of Long Island’s famous residents: Jerry Seinfeld, Billy Joel, Calvin Klein, Martha Stewart and more! Long Island’s charming 125 mile stretch boasts quaint villages, cultural treasures, pristine beaches, boutique shopping and exceptional vineyards. We begin with a delightful afternoon visit to Old Westbury Gardens, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the former home of the Phipps Family. Nestled amid the 200 acres of beautiful formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds and lakes stands their Charles II-style mansion. A perfect start to our Long Island escape! Later, we’ll arrive at our hotel in Riverhead, NY for a relaxing three night stay! Take some time to freshen up before we enjoy a delicious first night dinner. Hotel: Hyatt Place East End, Riverhead, NY (Dinner) Tuesday, September 27: We’ll begin our day with breakfast at the hotel before meeting our guide for a day of sightseeing and exploring Long Island’s “North Fork” landscape. We’ll get started with some free time discovering the magnetic villages and chic seaside communities so characteristic of Long Island’s charm. Relax and enjoy a beautiful luncheon along the water where you will want to be sure to have your camera! After lunch, we are off to enjoy a tour and wine tasting at one of Long Island’s wonderful vineyards situated in a locale recently named one of the ‘Top Ten Wine Regions in the World’ by Wine Enthusiast magazine. Tonight, we are treated to a private dinner at the Long Island Aquarium followed by VIP ‘after hours’ access to the Aquarium! On 3.2 acres along the scenic Peconic River, the aquarium is home to one of the Western Hemisphere’s largest all-living coral reef displays. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) Grounds of Oheka Castle Wednesday, September 28: After another wonderful breakfast, we’ll meet our local guide for a day of sightseeing and touring the “South Fork” region of Long Island. Most notably known as ‘The Hamptons’, we will explore what is considered the summer playground of the rich and famous, where today’s most well-known celebrities own summer homes. We’ll also enjoy a stop at one of America’s “top 10 beaches” and visit Sag Harbor, once a bustling port town where whalers of all nationalities converge. Enjoy some free time to stroll up Main Street and visit its old-time storefronts and antique shops. We’ll visit the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum and learn about local history as the exhibits are housed in a 19th century mansion. Our journey then takes us to Montauk Point State Park for a visit to the Montauk Point Lighthouse, commissioned by George Washington in 1792. With it’s breathtaking views, the Montauk Point Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in New York State and majestically stands at Long Island’s easternmost point. To make our day complete, we’ll enjoy another delicious dinner together. (Breakfast, Dinner) Thursday, September 29: Enjoy breakfast this morning, before we depart our hotel and tour along Long Island’s Gold Coast, a virtual Who’s Who of High Society. From the turn of the century through the 1930’s, this North Shore was THE place to be for some of the most notable Americans, including the Astor’s to the Vanderbilt’s. Also, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famous historical novel, The Great Gatsby was inspired by one or more of Long Island’s Gold Coast Mansions! Indulge in high society as you are treated to a luncheon at one of the spectacular Gold Coast Mansion’s, Oheka Castle! This visually stunning castle has appeared in the classic film Citizen Kane, starring Orson Wells as well as to the present day TV series, Royal Pains. After we’ve enjoyed our lunch, we depart for home taking with us many fond memories of our Long Island getaway!
