President’s
Thoughts
By Kathy Thomas
Well summer arrived sooner than
most of us wanted but not as soon as most
expected! We swept the Bruins in the
first round and made sure we took the
Bears to all 7 games. I know I for one was
glad we lost the seventh game in
Hershey as it breaks my heart to see
them on home ice in that circumstance. I
would much rather leave our building on
a high note which is just what the team
did. That last game could have went
either way. In one respect, I would hope
the cup stays in PA but on the other
hand….come on, it’s the Bears! I don’t
think I can stand to hear them gloat about
one more cup! Big deal...they have 11

cups in 78 years! And in the first years of
playing they competed against 9 other
teams! Doesn’t seem so impressive now,
does it? Oh well, it is what it is. There is
always next year! Speaking of next
season...I believe I speak for everyone
that we want TK to come back! Good
luck to the big Pens and our black aces
and also to the Wheeling Nailers on their
quest for the cups! Don’t forget I will
have “Flat Tux” at the general meeting in
June! Please pick one up and take Tux on
vacation with you! You can post your
pictures on our Face Book page or on
your page and tag the Booster Club!
Let’s see how far and how many places
Tux can go! Also I have been in touch
with the owner of Art N Vino about a
Booster Club party! He has come up with
a penguin painting! We are looking at
Saturday, August 13th. The cost will be
$36-$40 pending if is 2 1/2 or 3 hours
long. We need a minimum of 16 people
and a max of 32. If you want to
participate, I will need a $5 deposit ASAP
to reserve the room. I already have 14
people signed up. The painting is in the
newsletter and on Face Book Please let
me know so I can reserve the room! You
don’t even have to know how to paint! It
is like a “Paint by numbers” session!
Sounds like a blast! I would like to thank
everyone for your support and help over
the last season. I hope everyone has a
safe and enjoyable summer! See you in
August!!!

Meeting Minutes:
RoseAnn Foy reported that the
speaker for this evening would be
Tux (a.k.a Chad Spencer). She stated
that since the team was in the playoffs
it was difficult to get a speaker and it
may be the same for the June
meeting.
Kathy reported that the team is at it
again! They swept Providence in 3
games. They are currently tied with
Hershey after 4 games and have
almost identical statistics. The guys
seem determined this year. We only
had one injured in the game last
night.
Kathy states that she had an idea of
making available a copy of Flat Tux
(instead of a Flat Stanley) to take on
vacation with the members this year.
She has the approval of Tux (Chad)
and they are available to be picked
up at the Booster Club table. Take
one with you on vacation and post
your pictures of where Flat Tux has
visited with you or your family. Send
them to the BC or post them on Face
Book, or Twitter.
and Paul are hoping to try some new
things on the web site and get it up
and going.
Cindy has agreed to continue as the
chairman of the Scrapbooks for the
next season. She has been doing a
fantastic job and we would miss her if
she left. Sue M. will be helping her.
Some of the members are continuing
their books through the playoffs.
We will be looking for a new logo
for next seasons BC pin. If anyone is
interested in submitting a drawing,
please send your ideas to the BC via

director as soon as possible. Last’s
seasons submission was enjoyed by
all. We would like to be able to
choose a design prior to the August
meeting so that we may have the pins
in production and ready for the 201617 season.
We will be having the Daily Number fundraisers again this year. The
tickets will be available after the
schedule is announced, hopefully
before the Sept. general meeting.
The tickets will be good for the month

SPEAKER: Chad Spencer (a.k.a. TUX)
In the picture to the left is
BC President, Kathy Thomas
presenting to Chad Spencer
(Tux) a check from the
proceeds of the BC block
light and the Penguin
wreath. The check in the
amount of $200 will help
defray the cost and upkeep
of Tux’s uniform and his
many costumes.
Our speaker for the evening was Chad
Spencer, a.k.a. TUX. Chad is celebrating his
10th year anniversary with the WBS
Penguins. He states that he can not
remember any other place and that we are
just like family to him. We have accepted
him into our community as one of our own.
We have all followed Chad and his life since
he arrived in Wilkes-Barre. We know that he
wants what every other player that comes
here wants, to follow their dream and make it
to the NHL. Chad’s other love besides being
our mascot is his son who will be visiting him
soon. It’s hard to believe that he is already
17 years old, has a girlfriend and is a good
hockey player. Tux keeps telling us that he
is going to stop him in goal, though!!!
Chad plays in a hockey league here in
Wilkes-Barre. We all know that he has a
girlfriend and a dog that sometimes is not so
good. We know too that he is a hero. He has
earned the team’s trust. He talked about the
All Star Game that will be held in Allentown
next season. We know that he held Mascot
Clinics and helped train some of the local
mascots. He is a magician and loves to visit
the local schools. Parties are his favorite
place to be, especially for the children who
are sick and unable to attend the games.
Renew
It is that time of year again……
time to renew your membership in
the WBS Penguins Booster Club.
For a mere price of only $15 you will
receive 11 months of functions, the
newsletters and club meetings where
you can meet your favorite team player.
You can renew anytime starting this
month or at the June Booster Club.
New BC Pin for 2016-2017
IT is also time to start thinking about the
logo for our new BC pin. If anyone has
any ideas or knows of anyone who has an
idea for a new pin please submit your
suggestions to Dan Mensch or any board
member. You do not have to be an artist
or know how to draw. Just a simple idea
would be accepted. Thank you!!!
We want to thank Chad for coming to our
meeting and entertaining us. He always has
something new to show us. We know he
wants to pursue his dream of going to the big
time but we would really miss him. A check
for $200 ( which was earned from the sale of
chances from a Penguin mesh wreath and BC
Block Light) was presented to him by the BC
President, Kathy Thomas to help cover the
expenses and maintenance of his costumes.
