Mazda3 MPS pure driving exhilaration the fastest, most powerful car in its class Introducing the Mazda3 MPS – the ultimate super-hatch. Building on the success of the distinctive Mazda3, this breathtaking new model from Britain’s favourite sports car brand is the most powerful front-wheel-drive car on the market. Behind all this power is a 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger and advanced direct-injection spark ignition (DISI) technology. Producing a class-leading 260ps and 380Nm of torque at just 3000rpm, the Mazda3 MPS can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 6.1 seconds, and reach an electronically limited maximum speed of 155mph. All this adds up to a pure driver’s car, in every sense. Front cover shows Mazda3 2.3 5dr MPS with Sports Aero kit putting performance to the test The Mazda3 MPS makes any journey on any road a thrilling experience. With its direct steering, high-performance suspension and minimal body roll, it tackles UK roads with poise and precision – whether you’re on a motorway, fast A-road, or twisty cross-country lane. However, there’s one place in particular where it can really show what it’s made of – Germany, renowned amongst driving enthusiasts for mile after mile of derestricted autobahn. On roads like these, the Mazda3 MPS can be put to the ultimate test, to prove just how good its power and torque figures really are. And along the way, it doesn’t have to be all science – this car takes these speeds so much in its stride, motorway driving has never been so much fun. Image shows Mazda3 2.3 5dr MPS with Sports Aero kit Images show Mazda3 2.3 5dr MPS with Sports Aero kit eating long journeys for breakfast Crossing continents is about a lot more than just top speed. With stiffer Eibach springs*, larger anti-roll bars and high-performance dampers, the Mazda3 MPS is certainly sportier than the standard Mazda3 – but the ride is never compromised, and bumps, cambers and corners are all dispatched with ease. Inside, the driver sits in total comfort in Mazda3 MPS-branded leather sports seats, next to luxury details like a leather steering wheel, leather gearknob and leather handbrake. And, to make the journey even more enjoyable, the generous standard equipment also includes a Premium BOSE® audio surround sound system with 6-CD autochanger, climate control air conditioning, high power Xenon headlights, auto lights and rain-sensing wipers. *Featured on the Sports Aero kit model a car that simply looks fast On the road, the Mazda3 MPS looks the part, with its robust, purposeful styling and choice of stylish paint colours: True Red, Black Mica, Cosmic Blue Mica, or Sunlight Silver Metallic. Compared with the standard Mazda3, the Mazda3 MPS has a more aggressive nose, incorporating a lowered front spoiler, larger air intake and striking fog lights. It also features distinctive body-coloured side skirts; 18-inch alloy wheels; a sports front and rear bumper design; and a larger, chrome-finished exhaust pipe. For even greater aerodynamic efficiency, choose the Sports Aero kit model, which also comes with low-drag, two-spoke sports door mirrors; Eibach lowered suspension; and a roof-mounted rear spoiler that increases high-speed stability. Image shows Mazda3 2.3 5dr MPS with Sports Aero kit engineered to inspire confidence As the derestricted sign flashes past and the three-lane autobahn opens up ahead, the Mazda3 MPS accelerates like a supercar through 80, 100, and 120mph. As 140mph approaches, we shift into top gear – sixth – and the speedo rises effortlessly to 155mph. And then, without any drama, we ease back. The car’s performance is stunning, but it’s the stability that impresses most. The Mazda3 MPS comes with a standard-fit Limited Slip Differential (LSD) that splits the torque between the front wheels, depending on the grip available. Out on the road, this helps control the power through the front wheels and, therefore, maximise traction – even if you’re on a wet or loose surface. At higher speeds, special aerodynamic aids under the floor channel air efficiently, to keep the car planted firmly on the road. An advanced Traction Control System (TCS) works in tandem with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) to help prevent oversteer and understeer, and the advanced Four-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (4W-ABS), with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), provides the stopping power to match the car’s prodigious performance. In short, there’s everything you need to complement your driving skills. Image shows Mazda3 2.3 5dr MPS with Sports Aero kit practicality as well as performance For all the power of the Mazda3 MPS, it wasn’t designed to work just on the German autobahn, of course – it was concieved as a practical super-hatch for everyday driving. Available exclusively with five doors and capable of accommodating three adults in the rear, it is one of the most space-efficient, user-friendly cars on the road. And it’s not only incredibly versatile, with its split-folding rear seats that allow you to carry passengers and awkward-shaped loads at the same time, but also surprisingly economical, returning a combined fuel consumption figure of 29.1mpg. So, when you’re in the mood, the Mazda3 MPS is one of the most thrilling and entertaining cars you can buy – but it never forgets that some days are commuter days, and here it blends comfort, refinement and luxury specification. You need to try it for yourself.
