10B April 22, 2016 THE COMMUNITY NEWS Life&Community Makayla Cousins competed at the Level 8 Regional Gymnastics Championships at TCU April 16. She competed against top gymnasts from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico who qualified for regionals by receiving top scores at their state championships. Makayla, who trains at Impact Athletic Training Center in Aledo, placed second on floor, second on beam, third on bars, and third all-around. SPECIAL TO THE COMMUNITY NEWS RAMON MORALES/KRISTINMORALES.COM Alyssa Ramsey, 2015-16 Varsity Cheer Captain at Aledo High School, was selected for a highly-coveted spot on the University of Texas at Austin Co-Ed (Orange) Cheerleading Squad. This has been a lifetime dream of hers. Alyssa cheered in Aledo Youth Cheer from 1st- 6th grade, and was a school cheerleader throughout middle and high school. She was previously Captain on the JV squad as a sophomore, and also on Varsity as a junior. She has cheered competitively since age eight, both with Maverick Cheer in Weatherford and Champion Cheer in Southlake. Alyssa was named to the Inside Cheerleading 2014 High School All American Squad, and was a 2015 Kaepa “Most Valuable Cheerleader,” recognizing outstanding cheerleaders based on their achievements in cheerleading, academics, extracurricular activities and community involvement. She has competed at the Cheerleading Worlds for several years, and was a 2015 NCA IOC-6 National Champion. Her parents are Craig and Michelle Ramsey of Aledo. SPECIAL TO THE COMMUNITY NEWS Aledo Middle School student Bryson Dean was selected as one of 500 recipients of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Outstanding Achievement Award. This is the first time the National Association of Secondary School Principals has given this award. It is designed for members who demonstrate outstanding performance in the five pillars of NJHS: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character and Citizenship. Each of the 500 students selected will receive a $500 scholarship for college. Bryson is pictured with NJHS sponsors Kristie Vandergriff, Betsy Denny and Alicia Albin.
