to sit on when learning to read
This is what happens when workplaces are customised for
people and their needs. When the working environment is
functional and ergonomic yet also inspiring and stimulating.
When your furniture supplier understands your needs and
can deliver complete total solutions which are sustainable
in every way imaginable.
For 70 years we have devoted ourselves to creating
inspirational working environments and solutions for
different types of people. Large and small, young and old,
in a variety of professions. We all have different needs.
Our extensive experience has taught us to find the right
solution for each individual by listening and cooperating.
At Kinnarps, we believe in making life better at work. That is
why we do more than just sell furniture. With products and
services to match your needs, we deliver inspiring and effective workspace solutions to help your organisation prosper.
Anyone who works in school and education knows that
they won’t get very far without cooperation and dialogue.
We know what we can bring to each project, but we also
know how much better the result will be when more
people are given a voice. That’s why we always enter into
dialogue with schools, authorities and experts all around
Europe. We look to create the most valuable solution
for all.
Our service programme means we are available as a
resource during the entire process; from planning and
selection of interior design to installation and service.
What can we do for you? A pleasant working
environment stimulates the desire to learn and to teach
so that both pupils and staff can realise their full potential. In one of the strongest product ranges on the
market, you will find furniture and accessories that are
customised for training environments. With the right
solution, we can create the best possible conditions for
teaching and learning. If you would like to know more
about Kinnarps and our education environments, a warm
welcome awaits you in your nearest showroom.

classroom
School is our most important workplace. And it’s often our
most diverse. Many different people and almost as many
different needs. One school for all requires workspaces
suited to everyone. Because of this, we have produced a
number of inspirational examples of unique solutions which
can be customised for everyone.
environments
to grow in
In the right environment, both small children and great
ideas have room to grow. But what is considered “right”
depends on the type of learning. The traditional classroom
is still popular, even though it may be updated with modern
technology and inspirational interior design. Areas for
project work could provide seclusion as well as encourage
creative discussions. ”The narrative classroom” concept
builds on the idea that we learn best when we play an active
role in our own learning.

WITH A FOCUS ON IMAGINATION
When a lot is going on at the same time, the interior design

CAPTIVATING LESSONS
When furniture and interior design don’t even cross your mind, then we have done our job.
When we design modern classrooms, we often start by trying to
create spaces that encourage meetings, interaction and physical
movement. But sometimes the ideal teaching method is the
classical format of learning, with prolonged periods of listening.
And these situations also place demands on the working environment. The furniture and its ergonomic properties become key.
Kinnarps’ education chairs are ergonomically designed and tested
to improve the average school day. Suitable for children of all
ages, they are stable, easy to move and are in many cases
stackable. Our education chairs can easily be adapted
according to need. Use them in freestanding positions or
connect them together to form different combinations. Many
of the pupil desks are foldable and easy to store – take out the
ones you need for the day and store the rest away.

A LONG WAY FROM SILENCE IN CLASS
This is where roles and environments change and everyone gets to tell their story.
The concept of “the narrative classroom” involves every pupil
being able to share their thoughts, ideas and opinions through
their own narratives. The interior design incorporates four
learning environments in one classroom: The Stage, the Café,
the Hybrid library and the Studio. The different environments
stimulate the development of knowledge in different ways, and the
spaces are used more efficiently. They provide space for individual
needs and styles of learning while also taking advantage
of the collaborative, common learning. Using modern
technology, we can document, present and reflect during
the entire knowledge process. “The narrative classroom”
is a modern workplace for everyone, regardless whether
you are a teacher, pupil or cleaning staff.
WANT TO KNOW MORE?
“The narrative classroom” is a collaborative effort between
Learnlab and Kinnarps. See our website for more details.
THE FURNITURE ENCOURAGES INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY
By basing the interior design on the pupils’ needs, they often
feel more involved and take greater responsibility for both
their studies and in keeping the furniture and design intact
and clean.

auditorium
You occasionally need to assemble a large number of people
in one place, maybe to pass on general information, or to
allow them to share an experience. An auditorium should
function in the same way as an old-fashioned town square
where people used to meet up to keep up to date with events,
but with better ergonomics and modern sound technology.
EXPERIENCES FROM
THE FRONT ROW
In a theatre or concert hall the experience can vary widely
depending on where you sit. With our auditorium solutions,
we strive to ensure that everyone gets the front row experience. Everyone should sit comfortably and be able
to see and hear well, regardless of whether the space is
large or small. This makes attention to detail especially
important, and furniture and technical tools play their part.
Depending on the room and your requirements, you can
choose between fixed furnishing or flexible alternatives
with easy to move, stackable chairs.

RIGHT FROM THE START
With good planning, fixed interior design is a good alternative
– easy to clean, less noise and guarantees that the space
solution is as ideal as was intended.

Goal
1
LET THE PERFORMANCE BEGIN!
The aim of our auditorium solutions is primarily to provide
inspiration and interesting experiences. In practice this means
that we work to ensure everyone can sit comfortably and can
see and hear well, regardless of where in the room they are
sitting. We start with a holistic approach so that furniture and
technology work together and we always take into account the
various needs and conditions.

HYBRID LIBRARY
Language lab, meeting place or knowledge centre. Or a hub
to access literature and information through a variety of
media. In a hybrid library you can quickly and easily search,
use and evaluate updated information, often with the help of
customised technology. Quite simply a modern library,
adapted to suit the young people of today.
FOR our CURIOUS
EXPERTS
Pupils of today are experts at finding information, whether
it’s in digital or printed format. Modern technology and the
right interior design can simplify the search process and
we can capture and stimulate curiosity and thirst for
knowledge. And this is exactly what we want to do with our
furniture, contributing to a stimulating working environment
and a positive development.

ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS
A TROLL, A CAR, A BALLOON...
For the youngest children, reading aloud is preferred to silence.
A library does not have to be just a quiet room with loads of
books. There are often opportunities to read, listen, experience
and interact. When it comes to libraries for younger children,
the possibilities to develop these areas are almost unlimited. We
contribute with flexible furniture that encourages creative ideas.

In our range, you will find specially designed furniture and
accessories for learning environments. But we offer more

working environments. And we enlist the help of our cooperation
partners for specialised knowledge - for example in acoustics.

break
A good school day doesn’t just focus on learning but also
includes much-needed breaks. They are important to help
you recharge your batteries and to approach the next
challenge. But these intervals also provide time and
opportunities for creative meetings with others and for
individual reflection.
THOSE IMPORTANT
SPACES IN BETWEEN
Break areas should therefore be pleasant, relaxing spaces
with a cosy atmosphere and good acoustics. And at the same
time they should function as complementary learning
environments. Here you should be able to revise important
notes, have a spontaneous meeting or check your e-mail
between two lessons. Maybe take a moment to think about
something else, or just have a nice time together.

TAKE A PLAY BREAK
A break from play or a break to play are both equally important.
Furniture and interior design can be practical and inspire play
at the same time. One example is our colourful screens that
absorb sound while at the same time giving the entire room a
happy and positive atmosphere. Sound-absorbent furniture is also
a condition for natural breaks in play and work as they help
you to actually relax in the same environment that others are
playing and learning in.

SOUND-ABSORBING SPREADS HAPPINESS
Soft and cheerful screens both absorb the sound volume and
create a playful atmosphere. Also available in material that can
be wiped down, which is perfectly suited to environments in
which children are given space to create freely.

exercise outside P.E. lessons
Exercising during the school day is important for adults and children.
This is why we are always incorporating natural movement into
our interior design and space solutions, regardless whether it’s
an office, classroom or social spaces. But encouraging physical
activity in school can also be as simple as buying a table
tennis set.

Corridor
Corridors aren’t depressing transport routes, but important
spaces for movement and communication in the school.
People are often crowded and in a hurry and it’s important
for everyone to be able to move quickly, smoothly and
securely. Well-thought-out furnishing in corridors lays
the foundations for a good day at school and can make
more of these spaces.
THE FORGOTTEN
ROOM
You might not often think of the corridor as a space that can
be furnished. But you could also regard it as one of the most
important rooms in the school. The corridor and its storage
system provide the pupils’ own space, their offices. This is
where they need to fit all their things into a small space and
quickly change from one subject to the next. It may also be
used in other ways as additional working space.

REFECTORY
AND CAFÉ
Pupils who eat well manage to play and absorb the knowledge served at the school. That’s why it’s so important to
have quiet and pleasant places to eat and drink. There are
even studies that point to a direct connection between the
quality of the school refectory and the performance and
health of the students.
FOOD, DRINK AND
the meaning of life
A holistic approach to the colour, noise and lighting in the
refectory can do wonders and change the lunchroom from a
chaotic to a pleasant experience. In the school café you can
get a quick energy boost, in the form of something to eat or
drink as well as a bit of social communication. But it’s also a
place where you can unwind from lessons for a while. Having
a coffee with friends can provide you with breathing space
and the opportunity to discuss everything from mathematical
formulas to the meaning of life.

Smart furnishing and furniture that has been adapted to the
situation can be a great help when just a few adults need to
get twenty children to sit still and eat at the same time.

EATING HABITS FOR LIFE
Eating properly is not a matter of course for all small children.
With an easy to clean and safe eating place, the adults can teach
the children that mealtimes are not only occasions when we eat,
but also a pleasant way to socialise and spend some nice
time together.

WE TALK, LAUGH
DISCUSS, AND EAT
Interior design with good acoustics allows us to enjoy our lunch.
Lunch break – a time for recovery, good food and socialising?
For many it’s a utopia far removed from reality and noisy environments are often the reason for this. But there are many relatively
easy ways to lower the noise level in a refectory. Tables with
sound-absorbent surfaces are one way to furnish for quiet. From a
purely practical point of view, you can divide the refectory
into sections, e.g. with sound-absorbent screens. It’s also
important to minimise the noise from clearing up and to
plan the space for efficient use.

SPECIAL ROOMS
Certain subjects make specific demands on the furniture
and equipment. These could be science laboratories, or
classrooms for home economics, CDT or other creative
activities, for example.
UNUSUAL AND DIFFICULT
IS OUR SPECIALITY
The more specialised the subject is, the more specialised
the requirements for the interior design. Producing a
functioning total solution is often a complex process, in
which all parts complement each other and work well
together. We may call on our expert partners to furnish such
spaces, ensuring you get specialist advice and experience.

office and
staff
Happy and proficient pupils are, in simple terms, the
objective of most schools. Achieving this objective requires
inspired and motivated staff. A school is a workplace for
children, young people and adults, all of whom need
functional and stimulating environments to feel good
have a great day.
SPECIAL ROOMS FOR
IMPORTANT PEOPLE
Many of the environments in the school are common to
students and teachers, but there is also a need for space
that is specifically designed for staff. Rooms with workstations for work requiring concentration, reception and
information desks as well as personal space for much-needed rest and important conversations with colleagues.

TIDY AND COMFORTABLE
In an entrance or reception, additional high demands are
placed on furniture and interior design – besides having
to be ergonomically designed, it must also be tidy and look
appealing.

INTERIOR DESIGN THAT
FACES OUTWARDS
The reception is the first point of contact for visitors and the
interior design there is decisive in making that important first
impression. But furniture and design are also important for the
entire experience; a reception with comfortable sofas and easy
chairs provides a reassuring welcome.

CAN YOU HEAR YOUR OWN THOUGHTS?
Sound greatly affects our ability to perform. Stress, headaches
and shoulder and neck problems can be a problem if you spend
too much time in noisy environments. Creating a pleasant
sound landscape is about knowing how to place people and how
to arrange carpets, ceilings, furniture, blinds and maybe
screens ergonomically.

invest in THE SCHOOL’S
MOST IMPORTANT RESOURCE
A good working environment attracts good teaching staff, and
makes them want to stay. Investing in well thought-out and
ergonomic staff rooms is also an investment that can result in
fewer sick days, among other benefits, which is positive both for
the school’s finances and for the quality of education and teaching.
In the same way that you invest in maintenance if you have
bought a machine, you invest regularly in maintenance of the
most important resource: people. It’s as simple as that.
GOOD POSTURE IS
MOVING YOUR BODY
Read more on our website about our ergonomic holistic
approach and the benefits it can bring by investing in staff.
Plan more
Good space planning leads to the effective use of spaces and
better movement and communication between people.
