ProfilCut Q
Leitz Solid Wood-Competence
Leitz ProfilCut Q and ProfilCut Q Premium –
Cut for cut more quality and quantity
With the new generation of the
proven profile tooling system, Leitz
sets new standards in precision,
cutting quality and handling. The
Premium version of ProfilCut Q
allows the highest cutting speeds
in industry. Whether in handcraft
or industrial manufacturing of
windows and doors or in the
furniture production, ProfilCut Q
guarantees high-precision results.
The new Leitz ProfilCut Q profile tooling
system is very much appreciated by
the users. The tool manufacturer has
supplied its new ProfilCut generation,
amongst others to core markets such
as Germany, UK, France, Italy, China,
Brazil and USA. About 60% of ProfilCut
Q was ordered in the Premium version.
This is approved for cutting speeds up
to 120 metres per second.
Multi-purpose application
requirements. In combination with
Hybrid-Technology, ProfilCut Q allows
lifetime increases even on extremely
hard materials or abrasive areas.
Easy knife changes for low
set-up times
The new design of the Premium version
of ProfilCut Q has been honoured
with the “Red Dot Award 2016“.
It’s not just the window manufacturers
who use ProfilCut Q. The new profile
tooling system has also been supplied
to many furniture, interior door and
stairs manufacturers. Even plastics and
aluminium processors have discovered
ProfilCut Q for themselves. The new
Leitz ProfilCut generation can be used
universally. Thus it can be equipped
with the RipTec- or Integral-Technology
and by this becomes an expert for
cross-grained wood processing or for
visible surfaces of maximum quality
2 Leitz News 03-2016
Apart from the processing quality,
mainly the combination of performance
and easy handling are the persuading
factors for customers of the new ProfilCut Q, as the clamping system and
knife arrangement are so designed that
users can change all knives quickly
and easily without demounting the tool.
„The feature of an uncomplicated knife
change in the set is one of the unique
selling points of our ProfilCut Q“, says
Martin Kenntner, Head of the Leitz
Application Engineering Dept. This
handling advantage also has been
integrated in the development of the
new ProfilCut Q Premium.
Higher feed rates and higher productivity through ProfilCut Q Premium
In its Premium version, ProfilCut Q
develops its full performance spectrum
with potential cutting speeds of up to
120 metres per second. This is for
customers with stationary technology
and who require a high component
output. Apart from solid wood and
wood-derived materials, plastics and
very abrasive materials can be processed by this system. “With ProfilCut
Q Premium, users can work with the
same number of teeth with higher feed
rates and achieve higher productivity
and output“, as per Kenntner. The high
cutting speed of ProfilCut Q Premium
on the one hand is due to its newly
designed clamping system by clamping
the knives without tolerance axially
and radially and on the other hand to
the tool body whose quality makes
the tool harder, more wear-resistant
and durable.
Besides productivity, the new profile
tooling system also attracts attention
through its processing quality. This is
proven by many field tests run by Leitz
customers. During the development,
Leitz has paid special attention on high
running accuracy. In combination
with high speeds, this creates a better
finish quality.
ProfilCut Q for industry and trade
Especially for processing on spindle
moulders and angular plants, Leitz
provides an own ProfilCut Q version.
This is approved for a cutting speed
of 90 metres per second. For further
performance increase, two coated knife
versions are available for customers:
Ex works, the standard version Marathon
Multi Coating (MC) for demanding
profiling tasks in small and mediumsized companies and optionally the
Tungsten Diamond Coating (TDC)
version.
Optimized window production in the Zillertal region –
With the right tool
Apart from the engineering, construction and the timber construction sectors, the traditional company Rieder
in the Zillertal region produces doors,
furniture and windows. This results in
approximately 150 wood and wood/
Alu windows daily in many types of
timbers, shapes and dimensions.
Counter sash windows and large-size
sliding doors also rank among the assortment as well as burglar proof and
avalanche proof windows. In terms
of tools, company Rieder has placed
their trust in Leitz for decades.
Profitable partnership
Over the years, company Rieder again
and again has relied on tool innovations
from Leitz. „It has always been to our
advantage“, explains Production Manager Eberharter. Therefore the company
has been working for years, for example, with the Leitz RipTec-Technology:
The ripple profile causes less cutting
forces on the wood, which results in
practically no tears and by which the
feed speed can be increased considerably. Another highlight are intelligent
tools with integrated memory chip
which prevents potential errors.
Considerable reduction of cutting time
The tools are mounted on a shrinkfit arbour or a ThermoGrip shrink-fit
chuck to remove the accumulated fitting
tolerances. The toolset therefore has a
rigidity as if it would consist of just one
part. These are important conditions
for the application of the new profile
tooling system ProfilCut Q Premium. The
system works with cutting speeds up to
120 m/sec. Such high peripheral speeds
become possible due to an innovative
clamping system and a functional
coating that reduce friction and heat
generation. „Below the line, the cutting
time is reduced by approximately
one third with perfect finish quality”,
summarizes Leitz technician Engelbert
Tiefenthaler. And once more, Rieder
was one of the first who accepted the
system and is delighted with it.

Solid Wood-Competence
Timber construction is required.
However, this boom goes hand
in hand with new production and
technical requirements. As in many
plants, CNC-controlled joinery
machines have become the main
choice for production. They offer an
extremely high number of processing
options, but at the same time make
new demands on quality, flexibility
and efficiency.
HeliCut-cutterhead – furniture
quality in timber construction
With the HeliCut-cutterhead, Leitz has
designed a cutting tool for joinery machines that demonstrates its capability
by tear-free cutting quality and smooth
finishes. The decisive factors are improvements on the cutting edges, the
cutting geometry as well as the knife
arrangement. Moreover, the HeliCutcutterhead provides further advantages
of efficiency and handling. Furthermore, four times indexable tungsten carbide knives ensure higher performance
times and lower processing costs.
Leitz high performance coating –
lower costs, more processing
efficiency
From planer heads, HL-solid cutters,
minifinger tools, router cutters, drills to
knives and knife blanks – Leitz offers
a complete program of coated tools for

GlossCut circular saw blades –
Bright prospects for processing perspex
GlossCut in new variance
For many materials it is concealed by
the edge coating. For PMMA or PC
however, the main focus is on it: the
cutting surface. Especially for sizing
transparent materials, Leitz has the
GlossCut saw blades in its program.
Leitz now provides GlossCut also in
optimized versions for portable saws
and for CNC machining centres. Users
with circular saw benches and sizing
saws can utilize as many GlossCut
product versions as before the update.
GlossCut circular saw blades also
achieve excellent processing results
with plastics/aluminium composite
materials as Alucobond, Duromers as
HPL and wood fibre materials as for
example MDF.
The Leitz GlossCut circular saw blades
are specialized on processing PMMA
and PC. Even the saw cut results in
transparent, mark-free cutting surfaces
without edge breakouts. Thus the working step before polishing or scarfing
can be deleted whereas users of
conventional circular saw blades cannot get around it.
Better cutting results,
lower noise emission and increased
performance time
Leitz now has put a GlossCut-update
on the market. Now the GlossCut saw
blades have new laser ornaments.
These increase the stability and quiet
running of the saw blades, which
causes even better cutting results.
Furthermore they reduce the noise
emission of the GlossCut saw blades.
Altered tool construction and a new,
more wear-resistant type of tungsten
carbide moreover lead to performance
times that are up to 20 % longer.
Leitz Tool Kits –
Complete tool solutions for the professional processing of
acrylic glass and table top panels
Leitz provides two different Tool Kits

Material diversity –
Yields extraordinary kitchen designs
Baier, a carpentry business in
Vilsbiburg, relies on diversity of
materials. For six years this shop has
used a variety of Non Wood materials
in its kitchens and interior fittings.
Leitz supplies tools and processing
knowhow.
Baier is very versatile with material
selection. Apart from solid wood, chipboard panels and veneers, the carpentry also processes composite elements,
table top panels, Alucobond, Corian
and Perspex. Why does Baier engage
in such material diversity? Martin
Bauer, deputy managing director:
„The primary reason is functionality.
Table-top panels, for example, are very
stable and rarely move”. Moreover,
they are easy to clean, durable and
water-resistant. Furthermore, there are
aesthetic reasons to use Non Wood.
Leitz supplies tools, shrink-fit chucks
and knowhow
All Baier machines are equipped with
Leitz tooling. A number of different
Leitz Diamaster Plus cutters are used
for sizing and grooving compound material panels. The special cutting design
allows for groove and tear-free processing. The Leitz ThermoGrip shrink-fit
chucks increase the running accuracy
of the tools and reduce strokes through
single knives which would be especially
visible in compact gluelam.
Total precision in Non Wood
processing
On one hand, Non Wood materials have
many advantages for product differentiation; conversely they place high
demands on processing. Total precision is required. In contrast to wood
processing, the processing of Non
Wood materials doesn’t allow any inaccuracies as they cannot be rectified.
One thing is essential for Martin Bauer
– to be able to process Non Wood
materials at the required quality:
high-precision CNC technology.
Apart from appropriate machines and
tools, however, Non Wood processing
also requires much knowhow. The
Leitz specialist Johann Liebl has been
actively involved in Baier’s success.
„Non Wood materials, for example,
require different access routes and feed
rates than wood processing“, explains
Bauer. Partnering with Leitz has saved
a lot of time and money. When Martin
Bauer has a new working material that
must be processed, he phones Johann
Liebl and gets advice.
Leitz plastic panels catalogue –

Users rightly expect that from their tools,
they supply constant processing quality
from the first to the last day of operation
and fully utilize its known performance
times. The performance of a tool can be
equated with the efficiency and quality
of the tool service.
For this purpose Leitz relies on a
number of exact processing steps a
tool must pass during servicing. Each
processing step is optimized for absolute quality ensuring constant cutting
performance after each re-sharpen.
Assistants in everyday life –
the service salesmen
Not only are the technicians at the
service locations employed by the
Leitz team, Leitz customers rely on the
service salesmen to collect the tools
for reprocessing and deliver them after
servicing. Additionally the trained
service salesmen act as consultants
to help overcome current processing
problems and also are available to
advise machine operators on new tools.
Worldwide uniform standards thanks
to the „Service International“ Team
Identical machinery in service and
production
We utilize the same machinery in the
Leitz service stations as in our production plants, therefore ensuring that
the serviced tool reaches the same
quality as a newly produced one.
The technicians from this department
develop standards which constantly optimize quality and efficiency of the service
processes. In doing so, they use the
experiences in which the employees from
our 140 Leitz service stations worldwide
make every day. By means of training and
experience exchanges with Key Users,
the team guarantees service in original
manufacturers’ quality worldwide.
Leitz Tool Information Management (TIM) –
Direct communication between the customer and service
The Tool Information Management
System (TIM), a software instrument
designed by Leitz, allows quick and
effective communication between the
customer and Leitz service.
Time savings through direct
data transfer
Service salesmen quickly and easily
enter service orders directly at the
customers facility by means of the „TIM
Mobile“ App on their iOS or Android
device. Afterwards, the orders entered
are synchronized with the Leitz head
office and thus directly transmitted
to the grinding station. During the
direct wireless data transfer, particular
attention is made to the compliance of
data protection. Through the direct data
transfer, the respective service order
can be prepared by the service centre
before the tool arrives. This in turn
leads to enormous time saving for the
customer. After completion of the
tool servicing, the customer can expect
the tool to be delivered ready for
operation once again.
Prompt inventory information
Apart from service orders, TIM Mobile
also provides the option to enter new
product orders or quotes directly onsite. By means of real-time data transfer, the service salesman can inform
the customer whether the required
tool is currently on stock. Through the
use of the Leitz Tool Information
Management System in the service
sector, customer enquiries are dealt
with promptly.
