“ European Federation for Company Sport
(EFCS) is proud and honored to introduce
you the project Active Workplace, Healthy
Lifestyle, co-funded by the European
Commission within the framework of
Erasmus +. For the first European Week of
Sport, EFCS has been chosen to be one
of the top partners of the EU Commission
when we signed in Milan during EU Sport
Forum the partnership agreement with the
Commissioner for Sport, Mr Tibor Navracsics.
We support strongly this European initiative
that is an excellent signal to fight against
low physical activity rates in Europe. Indeed,
according to EU Barometer survey on sport
and physical activity, 59% of European Union
citizens never or seldom exercise or play
sport.
As the European expert regarding company
sport with 41 national federation members,
EFCS is convinced that the workplace can be
the right place to leverage physical activity
in Europe.
AWHL objective is to show that practicing
physical activity within the workplace
can be simple, convenient, not expensive,
friendly and can bring strong benefits to the
community.
Whether it is for social issues, management,
corporate culture, networking, productivity or
health, the positive impact of physical activity
within the workplace is now recognized.
Employees’ well-being and performance: two
arguments that resonate with employees
and key decision makers.
The success of AWHL is now clear with
thousands of companies and employees
participating, new contacts with European,
national and local key decision makers, and
make our federation stronger and stronger
to continue to develop company sport
in Europe. And with a result that is much
more important than figures : the smile, the
interest and satisfaction of all participants,
regardless the position in the company, the
field of activity or the gender. How do not
consider the fact that sport and physical
activity can reinforce all relationships in the
company and make everybody in the same
line ?
We thank again the EU Commission and
Sport Unit for their support to AWHL project
and partners that work all together to make
this event a success.
Do not forget : Company sport is much more
than sport !
Let’s play again for European Week of Sport
2016 ! “

EUROPEAN WEEK OF SPORT
THE EUROPEAN WEEK OF SPORT (EWoS)
The European Week of Sport, initiative of the
EU Commission, aims to promote sport and
physical activity across Europe. The Week is
for everyone, regardless of age, background
or fitness level. With a focus on grassroots
initiatives, it will inspire Europeans to #BeActive
on a regular basis and create opportunities in
peoples’ everyday lives to exercise more.
#BeActive is a call to action to get Europeans
moving!
The European Week of Sport as a whole
is composed of projects co-financed by
the European Commission, as well as
events organised by the Week’s European
partners, national coordinators, ministries,
civil society organisations, local authorities
and the private sector. Any individual or
organisation can also develop and register
an event with the European Week of Sport.
The European Week of Sport takes place at
EU, national, regional and local level, and is
structured to include themes and activities
that appeal to all audiences.
Public authorities, the sport movement, civil
society organisations, the private sector,
grassroots initiatives and individuals are
working together to inspire people to be
more active.
The European Week of Sport includes
events and activities across the 28 EU
Member States as well as in the former
Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Iceland,
Norway, Liechtenstein, and Turkey.
The Week is structured around four Focus
Days:
Education environment,
Workplace
Outdoors,
Sport Clubs and Fitness
Centres.
“We want to show people that
there are many opportunities
to be active wherever they
are. Get involved and help us
inspire European citizens to do
more sport and regular physical
activity.”

WHAT IS AWHL ?
European Federation for Company Sport is official
partner of European Week of Sport as well as 30
organisations since EU Sport Forum in Milan on
December 2nd of 2014. EFCS implemented a multi
countries program called Active workplace, Healthy
lifestyle (AWHL) in different European Program
countries co financed by EU Commission within the
framework of the programme Erasmus+ Sport.
Implementing physical activity
in the company will benefit to
employees health, well being
and social life.
The objective is to encourage and promote physical and sporting activity within the workplace and to show the business world that doing sport in the company is not only useful
(improving health, performance, cohesion, management and so on), but also easy, amusing and
fun. This can be shown through figures, discussions and studies, and will also be demonstrated
by taking part in a physical activity (as the logical follow-up to the motto #BeActive), since
all the events staged in the different EFCS countries give employees the chance to discover
and take part in different sports in key workplaces.
Actions organized during the EWoS were composed of local events in 13 European countries:
Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Malta, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden
All events were designed according a model provided by EFCS to different members providing a coherence and a unity for a « European company sport » through AWHL. To ensure a
EWoS and EU positioning and unity, actions to be implemented were based on a model and
guideline respected by all national members that participated to AWHL but adapted to their
local specificities.
All the events were based on four main criteria:
make participants practicing physical activity
educate, inform and promote company sport added value and benefits
business and company context
leisure and recreational dimension rather than competition

The project implemented in Germany
promoted company sport activities mainly
around a bowling tournament in the
Bowling Centers of Stuttgart-Fellbach
and Böblingen, both situated in BadenWürttemberg. Choice of this sport was
made as bowling activity is really popular
in Germany, it is a famous European
company sport activity, especially during
EFCS Summer Games and it’s opened
to everyone as it doesn’t need as much
strong physical condition as other sports.
Promotion of company sport and health
stands were also displayed in the center.
The
AWHL/EU-Project
in
Germany
gathered about 700 participants from all
over the country.
““The aim is to organize this kind
of event each year in other
places with different partners,
in order to promote company
sport through partnerships and
voluntary work all over Germany.
European Week of Sport is an
excellent initiative to convince
company stakeholders and give
more light to our activities”

Objectives were to give employees and
their families the opportunity to learn easy,
in accessible ways to incorporate outdoor
activities and sports and create a sport habit for life. A focus was made about educating populations about benefits of company sport. Activities gave participants the
chance to familiarize with sports that were
not so well known in Greece (i.e. baseball,
softball, petanque).
Two “active lifestyle” info points and a van
were operated throughout the week. This
had been the starting point for the Greek
participation in AWHL project for EWoS and
a way to attract mass media for spreading
the message of ‘positive energy’ around.
One parallel event supporting the idea of
“wellbeing”
A conference regarding the idea of wellbeing and active lifestyle was organized in
a selected private hall in Athens.
““AWHL and EWoS gave EU
citizens the opportunity to
change their habits and leave
their sedentary way of life. Going

outside : here are key ideas of

The main idea of this project was to make
Latvian employees and companies active and
to raise knowledge to decision makers about
benefits of company sport in the field of
the company (social, health, communication,
economic issues).
Total project is being implemented in
five different events. The largest of them
was Jurmalas Running festival and Tukums
Sports and Health festival. Jurmala Running
festival participants had the opportunity to
participate in Nordic walking and running
distances. Tukums Sports and Health Festival
took place around the city in a wide
range of activities with the participation
of workers, families, youth. Other activities
were about promoting physical activities
in the companies for employees: activities
during worktime, don’t use car but rather
public transport and even more a bicycle or
walking, don’t use elevator, physical activities
after worktime (openair workouts)… More
than 8 000 participants took part in AWHL .
“As physical activity rates
are too high in Europe and
highlighted by the goal of EWoS,
our aim is to target especially
physically inactive workers as
they represent a huge part of
the community who are not
concerned by sport activities.
By implementing adapted and
personalized activities, it is a
way to convince them about
simplicity and benefits of
company sport ”

hand in hand with other sports entities in
Malta, particularly with the Malta Sports
Council, in order to encourage its members
to participate in other activities
held in the wider spectrum of local sports.
“Initiatives like EWoS and
AWHL are an excellent way for

The engagement of Slovenia in the project
AWHL has been based on three main
activities :
A multi-disciplinary social, environment
friendly and recreational event based on
physical activity, leisure and other social
activities targeted on workers and their
families called « Ecoadventure for workers».
The event took place on the mountain «
Mirna gora » on 13th September 2015.
Finally, a list of awareness raising and
educational activities were organized
about promoting physical activity in
workplaces in different locations and regions of Slovenia, including the Ministry
of Health.
Also were produced and distributed different
communication materials - posters,
calendars, agendas – in order to promote
healthy habits and regular physical activity
in workplaces, for a minimum of 10 minutes
per day.
“ In SUS, we believe that sport
and physical activity are great
tools to promote health, active

In Spain, AWHL was implemented in the
city of Gandia in order to have a healthier
daily life and to extend the different
values developed by sport such as mutual
respect, solidarity and tolerance. The project
was not only targeting companies but the
overall community. As example, stimulating
participation and increasing physical activity
for young, the role of sport about preventing
illnesses (heart attacks, overweight, etc.) and
providing opportunities for the practice of
sports for the elderly.
More than three thousand people have
participated to all activities that were a
combination of a swimming contest across
the harbour, Colour Race, I Open Rowing
Yolas, tests for checking cholesterol, sugar and
blood pressure levels, lectures, participation
of schools, indoor and outdoor football
corporative sport championships.
“We conducted a qualitative
evaluation in all participating
sectors, schools, children, clubs,
associations, companies, etc. and
all of them rated the AWHL
activities as highly positive. But
the most important thing is that
we have provided opportunities
for the practice of sports for

widened the spectrum of their

the strength and benefits of health and

Several cities were chosen throughout Sweden
to make this event even better and special
for the selected cities.
Two days filled with lectures, workshops,
physical activities, networking and fun
attracted beginners as well as hardcore
athletes. The activities that were offered were
Taiji Quigong, Zumba, Core, Crossfit, Spinning,
Bodypump, Dodgeball and Tabata alongside
with workshops on the topics “Exercise, fun
and healthy”, “Strategical health work” and
“Don´t forget to eat lunch”.
A kind of walk and talk were also introduced to
promote the importance of short breaks that
includes movement throughout the workday.
All in all to promote and inform the Swedish
working population about the importance of
physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.
“By having Korpen here, at

for our colleges to actually try
