WELCOME
CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
Today is a very important match as we welcome our local rivals the Sutherland Sharks
to WIN Stadium at the start of our HERITAGE WEEK. The week will include looking back
on some of the great rivalries we have had with firstly Sutherland in the NSW Premier
League but also next Sunday our former NSL rivals Sydney United.
The Sutherland standout for me was in 2008 when the Sharks picked up the League
title on the last day of Round 22 by scraping through with a 1-1 draw and winning the
League on goal difference. Obviously most of us know what happened from there. The
favourites (Sharks) were supposed to do the double and become Champions but the
WOLVES had other ideas and we beat them in the Major Semi Final to book our place in
the Grand Final winning 2-1 in extra time. We went on to meet Sutherland again in the
Grand Final after they disposed of Sydney Olympic 2-1 in the final.
Grand Final day was a bus ride to Penrith for the big show and I was unfortunately unable to go due to the
birth of my youngest child only a few days earlier. The grand final was a beauty and a massive 4-2 victory to the
Wolves and who could forget that Tynan Diaz freekick. Do yourselves a favour and go to YouTube and type in
Tynan Diaz Freekick it’s worth watching again.
The WOLVES were CHAMPIONS again for our 2nd time in NSW’s top competition to add to the title we won back
in 1987.
Lastly I think it is very important to mention the changes at the club over the previous weeks. I want to take
this opportunity to thank Nahuel Arrarte, Jason Spencer and Osvaldo Riva for their energy and time and
commitment during their tenure with us and I am sorry to see them go but I truly do hope all three have a
future that is full of success. We all have opinions on what was right and what was wrong but one thing is clear,
this region has a long way to go in terms of competing on and off the field with our Sydney counterparts in this
competition.
I am prepared to stand up and do what we can to bring this region back to our feet in terms of our future and
how we can help our young players who want to make a name for themselves in the highest leagues around the
world by starting through our pathway.
It starts with our Football Community:
• We have appointed 3 great, young, local men to take care of our first team for the remainder of the year.
The appointment of Jacob Timpano as head coach to be assisted by Dez Giraldi and Alfredo Esteves brings
a wealth of experience and local knowledge that cannot be questioned. On behalf of all of our Football
Community of the region I hope they get the support from ALL that they deserve.
• W
e are working very hard with Local Clubs, Councils and Football South Coast to help secure a permanent
home for training and playing for our Juniors and Seniors.
• W
e need to encourage our best players at all levels to return to our team if they are playing elsewhere outside
of our district but we also know to achieve this we need to improve infrastructure and generate far more
income in order to achieve.
• W
e are trying to engage not only within our own club but also with the Football Community in new ways and
old to build the support from within the Football Community.
• We need the support of EVERYONE but starting with ALL FOOTBALL FANS, ALL FOOTBALL CLUBS, FOOTBALL
SOUTH COAST & ALL THE PLAYERS, COACHES, MANAGERS & ADMINISTRATORS of our beautiful game in this
region to not only help the WOLVES but also the STINGRAYS build the perfect football platforms to launch an
A-LEAGUE and W-LEAGUE team in this region SOONER rather than LATER!
Lastly I hope to see you at our upcoming events, firstly at the LAGOON
RESTAURANT for the DINNER with the CHAMPIONS 20th June and
then our REUNION at the FRATERNITY CLUB on the 4th July. Please
book your tickets ASAP and show your support either via our website
www.southcoastwolves.com.au or call SUSAN on 0412 083 754.

MATCH PREVIEW
ROUND 14
Sutherland Sharks come to WIN Stadium for
this Heritage Round encounter and 14th game
of the season at WIN Stadium with the South
Coast Wolves. In the previous meeting, it was
a draw and each team will hope to redress this
result in today’s outing.
THE OPPOSITION TODAY – SUTHERLAND
SHARKS
The Sutherland Sharks club was founded
in 1930 and became NSW Premier League
Champions in 1978, 1986 and 2009.
Sutherland last tasted honours when the club
was victorious in the 2009 Premier League
Grand Final. Winning 4-1 against Marconi
Stallions with goals scored by Neil Jablonski,
Brad Boardman, Michael Katz and Panni
Nikas, the team played scintillating football.
The Sharks line-up on that auspicious day
was – Nathan Denham, George Souris (Capt.),
Blake Powell, Michael Robinson, Chris Price,
Jim Bakis, Brad Boardman, Ben Spruce, Neil
Jablonski, Michael Katz and Nikas. Nathan
Ralph came on for Powell. The coach was
Robert Stanton. Former notable players include Alen Stajic
(now coach of the Matildas), John Watkiss,
Mark Milligan, Alan Maher and John Kosmina
and Col Bennett.
In 2014, Sutherland concluded the competition
in 6th position on thirty points having nine
wins, three draws and 10 defeats, scoring 43
and conceding 42 goals. The top scorer was
Panni Nikas on 12 and the goals came from
ten other players plus an opponent own goal.
Nikas scored the quickest goal in the 6th
minute in Round 1 versus Blacktown Spartans.
The team was kept scoreless on five occasions
and the best sequence without loss was four
–Rounds 2-5 –win, win, win, and draw. The
biggest win was 6-1 in Round 1 and the worse
loss was 0-3 in Round 20 against Rockdale City.
6
Players who were nominated in the Team Of
The Week are listed with the number of times
each was selected. They were - Nathan Elasi (3),
Ethan Galbraith (1), Nikas (5), Nathan Denham
(2), Nick Littler (1), Adamos Pierettis (2), Nick
Olsen (2), Nick Stavroulakis (2), Jordan Figon
(1), and Jacob Tratt (1). Nikas was also named
in Team Of The Year, plus he was adjudged
having scored ‘The Goal Of The Week’ three
times in Round 4, 6 and 16.
With a new coach at the helm in Steve
O’Connor, new players were added to replace
the likes of long serving players Nikes and
Stavroulakis who left for Sydney United
58. They include Steve Hayes from South
Coast Wolves, Peter Crevani from Mens 2
competition, Shane Webb, and Aleks Jovovic
from St.George. So far this season Sean O’Connell, Tratt, Perry
Moustakis and Jovovic have been named in
‘Team Of The Week’ for their performances
while Figon, Olsen and Tratt have been
multiple scorers in a single match scoring a
brace each in Rounds 1, 3 and 7.
BLAST FROM THE PAST
In 2006, the teams played at Win Stadium
and this was the second such encounter and
began at 6 p.m. Stewart Porter (SS) and Eddie
Tesoro (W) were the coaches at the time. The
line-ups were – Sharks - Stewart Vella, George
Souris, Mitchell Prentice, Jack Sobyczyk,
Michael Hawrysiuk, Steve Karavatakis, Danial
Cummins, Steve Baveas, Monte Pfrengle,
Matt Smith and Eddie Adam. Ben Spruce,
Paul Wither and Mark Bariamis came on for
Prentice, Karavatakis and Baveas. Wolves –
Nathan Denham, Chris Price, Chris Rigopoulos,
Dustin Wells, Darren McDonald, Andrew
Mumford, Daniel Aliffi, Adam Casey, Andrew
Lazarou, Ballamodou Conde and Dean Kerr.
Samet Kaynak and, Daniel McDonald and

Karouna Michael substituted for Rigopoulos,

wins and three draws and have earned eleven
points, to sit in eleventh place.
Thirty-one minutes went by without a goal.
However, the goalkeeper Vella did not control
an errant back pass properly. Casey collected
the loose ball to dispatch it into the goal.
The lead was not kept for long as Adam met
a cross and slotted the ball pass Denham in
the Wolves goal. The Sutherland then took the
lead in the 49th minute. Adam’s shot struck
Denham on the shoulder and then bounced
into the goal, fortuitous for the Sharks but
unfortunate for Denham and the Wolves.
Denham later in the half bravely denied Adam
by plucking the ball from his bootlaces as he
shaped to pull the trigger. The Sharks looked
home and hosed until Wells put a powerful
shot in from just outside the penalty area to
give the home side a share of the points with
seconds to spare before the final whistle.
However, the Sharks could be considered
unlucky to lose as the goal frame kept out two
shots by Hawrysiuk and Pfrengle.
The last meeting in Round 3 was a 2-2 draw
with Sean O’Connell and Bai Antoniou plus
Peter Simonoski and Jordan Murray netting.
THE MATCH UP
The two teams have been opponents on
twenty-four occasions including league, cups
and finals with the first meeting occurring in
1987. The Sharks have won 12 games to the
Wolves 9, and each has been kept scoreless by
the other, seven and five times respectively.
Sutherland’s best sequence without loss
was five from 2009 to 2011 – all wins, home
and away in 2009, and 2010, and at home in
2011. The Wolves’ best has been two matches
– 1987 home and away, and 2008 Semi final
and Grand final. The Sharks also lead in the
scoring department having scored forty three
to twenty nine goals.
The top scorer for each team is Seongjin Park
(SS) and Peter Simonoski (SCW) with 6 and 5
respectively. Sutherlands’ number of scorers
amount to ten while there are five for the
Wolves.
So far this season Sutherlands has scored
twenty-seven goals and have been kept
scoreless on two occasions as against five for
the Wolves, who have scored sixteen goals
less.
In the previous outing, Sutherland defeated
Sydney United 58 3-1 with goals by Sean
O’Connell, Jacob Tratt and Aleks Jovovic. South
Coast lost away to Blacktown City to the tune
of four goals to nil.
Sutherland will be cock a hoop after downing
a strong side last week while the Wolves,
under new coach Jacob Timpano, will be
endeavouring to turn around an away defeat
in this home game. Players to watch include Jordan Figon,
Sean O’Connell and Park (Sharks) and Zac
MacKenzie, Tom Manos and Shannon Fielding
(Wolves).
By Malcolm Rowney
Sutherland sits in sixth position having so far
earned seventeen points from five wins and
two draws. Conversely, the Wolves have two

FEATURE STORY
‘FIRST STRIKE’
THE WOLVES’ FIRST SCORER IN EVERY SEASON
As this is the designated Heritage Round, the first ever
scorer in each of the 35 seasons of league matches played
by the Wolves will be named and celebrated. This list
displays names of icons in the club’s history such as Sasho
Petrovski, Stuart Young, Scott Chipperfield, Alan Brazil and
the inspirational captain Horsley. These players plus others
at the other end of the spectrum with a one and only season
such as Paine, Giannone, Demertzis and Majuroski, all
played their part. As many readers would expect most of
these initial scorers to be strikers, and while it does hold true
in a majority of cases, it is not definitive as some defenders
also make the list. One player is featured three times while
three players feature twice as they scored the opening goal
of the season in successive years. Most of these goals have
come in Round 1 (on 17 occasions), Round 2 on 14 times,
Round 3 and Round 4 twice each.
Some supporters may also remember some of the goals
and many of the older brigade may remember McBreen’s
goal. These are the circumstances behind each of the initial
scorers from the most recent to the very first in the club’s
history as well as the club history of those concerned. 2015 – PETER SIMONOSKI - Round 2 - 28th March. WIN
Stadium was the venue when Simonoski scored from the
spot against Blacktown City. It was two minutes after play
commenced following the half time break and one minute
after conceding. Simonoski sent the goalkeeper the wrong
way. Simonoski first played in the first team in 2009 and
scored in his second game. Six years later, he is still getting
on the score sheet and he is indeed a club stalwart. He was
equal top scorer in 2012. 2014 – RICKY ZUCCO - Round 2 - 16th March. Zucco’s goal
in Round 2 at Seymour Shaw Park began with him stealing
the ball off a Sutherland Sharks defender in close proximity
to the penalty area. He powered the ball into the left inside
netting of the goal, beating the outstretched goalkeeper.
Zucco played a total of 37 Premier league games scoring 26
goals with a further seven goals in Cup games and one in a
League semi-final.
2013 – RICKY ZUCCO - Round 2 - 23rd March. Zucco
scored from the penalty spot 42 minutes in, in the Round
2 clash with Blacktown City following a Blacktown defender
brought down Mitchell Del Turco. He played a total of 13
games with a further two substitute appearances, scoring 11
goals, which was the highest number. Zucco was strong in
possession and had the ability to hold true under tackling.
He was adept at shielding the ball and had the x factor and
could shoot from anywhere being unpredictable, thereby
giving trouble to opposition defenders. 2012 – MARK PICCIOLINI - Round 1 - 31st March. Picciolini
scored from the spot after he was inconvenienced unfairly
at Crehan Park. This happened after 62 minutes had elapsed
against Bonnyrigg White Eagles. He took the penalty himself
and rifled it home. Picciolini was a joint club top scorer with
9 goals. He scored a brace in Round 6. NPLNSW.COM.AU
2011 – SASHO PETROVSKI - Round 1 - 3rd April. Petrovski
sized up after a free kick was given about 25 metres out from
the Parramatta Eagles’ goal to the right of centre. The all time
highest scorer for the Wolves hit the ball with aplomb and it
sailed into the inside the far post top corner. It was a sublime
strike at Crehan Park and coach, Trevor Morgan stated in my
interview at the time –‘it was an uplifting moment…. he’s
pulled off a top class finish’. Petrovski was the all time top
goal scorer with the Wolves, was the club’s top scorer in the
2000/01 season with 21 goals, and he also goaled in the NSL
Grand Final of 2001. He totalled 122 league games consisting
of 81 NSL and 41 NPL appearances. He wore the captain’s
armband on occasions during his two year second stint with
the club.
2010 – ANDREW PAINE - Round 2 - 3rd April. Paine scored
on his debut for the club against Bonnyrigg White Eagles
at their home ground. On 22 minutes, he had made a run
into the box and was the recipient of a desperate tackle. As
the tackler was the last man who denied a scoring chance,
he was summarily dismissed. Paine from the spot sent the
goalkeeper the wrong way. He played a further 13 games
with six substitute appearances. He scored one more goal
and this was his only one season with the club.
2009 – ILIJA PRENZOSKI - Round 2 - 8th March. The
prolific goal poacher, Prenzoski scored with a header on
51 minutes in Round 2 versus Bonnyrigg White Eagles. He later completed his brace with a penalty kick that was
successful after Steve Hayes’ shirt was tugged. This was
the second season at the club for the ace scorer who was
a club top scorer in this season. He made 38 starting and
one substitute appearances for the club and scored three
goals in the final series of 2008. In 2014, he was playing with
Tarrawanna in the IPL, still scoring goals. He also captained
the side in one game.
2008 – CHRIS PRICE - Round 3 - 9th March. Price scored
with a header after he came on as substitute in the 66th
minute. Matthew Bailey came downfield in possession
before passing to Osagie Ederaro who made further progress
before shooting. The goalkeeper subsequently did not hold
the ball. However, the ball looped up into the air enabling
Price to nod it home. This 2008 season the team was very
successful but missed out in the last round on winning the
Premiership that was decided on goal difference. However,
the Championship was achieved beating the team that
annexed the Premiership from under their noses. Price went
on the score six more goals with another coming the Grand
Final victory. The left footed midfielder or wingback returned
to the Wolves in 2013 after being four years with Sutherland
Sharks. He was an integral part of the 2014 squad and
indeed scored a hat trick in Round 21 versus Marconi. In
2015 he is the captain of the team.
2007 – DANIEL ALIFFI - Round 2 - 4th March. Aliffi was the
top scorer for this season with 12 and his first came against
Manly at Crehan Park. In the 72nd minute, a Tynan Diaz
9
FEATURE STORY
free kick was headed on by Osagie Ederaro to Aliffi. Under
pressure, he headed in. Aliffi was a go ahead striker that did
not shirk his duties under opposition centre backs. Aliffi was
at the club since his debut in 2002/03 until 2008.
2006 – ADAM CASEY - Round 1 - 19th February. The
equal top scorer of this year with six goals, Casey zipped
in to collect an intended back pass by a defender to his
goalkeeper who subsequently failed to control on the
WIN Stadium pitch. On doing so, Casey composed himself
before dispatching the ball into the net. Casey was a mobile
player with a turn of speed that caused defences plenty of
trouble. He only played seven games but scored a hat trick
in Round 4 against Bankstown City Lions. He went to play
A-League with New Zealand Knights, Sydney FC, and North
Queensland Fury and then with Rockdale City Suns in NPL
NSW MENS 1 in 2013.
2004/05 - MICHAEL CLARE - Round 3 - 4th November. The
industrious skilful midfielder Clare scored against Bonnyrigg
White Eagles before a crowd of 3000 plus that packed into
Crehan Park for a 5.30 kick off. This was the first home match
of the season and the first season for the club after the
demise of the National Soccer League. Clare only played one
season in the NSW Premier League with the Wolves coming
from Port Kembla in the Illawarra competition and returning
to Western Suburbs following his Wolves’ stint. He played 20
league games with one substitute appearance and two cup
games. He scored a total of six goals but set up many more
for his teammates including one Shane McGirr.
2003/04 - JOHN MAJUROSKI - Round 2 - 27th September.
Majuroski come on as substitute in the 61st minute scoring
sixteen minutes later. He made five starting and eight
substitute appearances with no further goals unfortunately
to his credit, but that does not devalue the goal he did score. 2002/03 - NAUM SEKULOSKI - Round 1 - 20th September.
Sekuloski’s goal came a minute before half time in the match
against Marconi at Marconi Stadium. This was the first of a
brace. Sekuloski got the ball from a throw in, swerved then
fired off a left footed shot that from 30 metres out flew
towards goal. The goalkeeper parried the ball upwards but
despaired when it spun back over his head into the goal.
Marconi was the adversary and it concluded 2-2.
Sekuloski was at the Wolves from 2001-2003 and scored 7
goals from 39 games. From the Wolves, Sekuloski went to
Parramatta Power before spending five years at Perth Glory
in the A-League. He was playing in the NPL V MENS 1 with
Goulbourn City Suns FC in 2014 after being with Hume City
in the same competition.
2001/02 - STUART YOUNG - Round 2 - 13th October.
Left footed Young scored from the penalty spot in the
87th minute following a tackle on Max Nicholson that was
deemed dangerous. Young was the top scorer with 9 goals
and was indeed top scorer on three occasions 1999/00,
2001/02 and 2002/03. He played five years with the Wolves
10
and later with Perth Glory in the first couple of years in the
A-League.
2000/01- STUART YOUNG - Round 1 - 14th October. English
striker Young scored a penalty in the draw with Perth Glory.
Scott Chipperfield was the recipient of a tackle that was on
the soft side and was surprisingly given a penalty. Later in
the match, Chipperfield justifiably won another penalty. To
win the game however and much to Young’s chagrin, his
second penalty shot was saved.
1999/00 - ESALA MASI - Round 1 - 3rd October. Fijian
international player and striker Masi scored in the 6th
minute of play. Surjan and Chipperfield had combined
before the ball was slipped by the latter in to Masi’s path and
he slotted into South Melbourne goal.
1998/99 - ANTHONY SURJAN - Round 2 - 18th October.
Surjan was an industrious midfielder with good skill to beat
his man and with a powerful shot. He scored from the spot
in the 17th minute versus Melbourne Knights sending the
‘keeper the wrong way. Kosta Salapasidis was tackled and the
tackler ultimately went down in the area and subsequently
handled the ball. 2-1 was the final score. Surjan played 91
games for the club with five substitute appearances, scoring
19 goals.
1997/98 - SCOTT CHIPPERFIELD - Round 4 - 26th October.
Chipperfield scored in the 20th minute. He was one on one
with the Newcastle goalkeeper and calmly slotted it home.
The game concluded 1-1. Chipperfield played five seasons
from 1996/97- 2000/01 with the Wolves amassing 131
starting performances with one appearance off the bench,
scoring a total of 50 league goals. He represented Australia
at the World Cup and played at FC Basle in Switzerland on
leaving the Wolves.
1996/97 - MATT HORSLEY - Round 1 - 13th October.
Horsley scored a brace with his first coming after seven
minutes. Forty-five minutes later he scored his second. The
opposition was Sydney United and the game ended up 3-3.
Horsley went on to play 284 games from 1990/91 to 2000/01
for the Wolves and is still the number one in appearances
with the Wolves. He also scored 36 goals and captained the
team to win Two NSL Grand Finals.
1995/96 - TONY PERINICH - Round 1 - 7th October. Perinich
‘s goal was a consolation one after four were conceded prior.
He scored from close proximity to the goal with his shot in
the 64th minute. Perinich had three stints at the club
1994/95 - MARTIN AKERS - Round 4 - 13th November. New
Zealand international Akers scored a brace in this South
Melbourne match. His first goal was in the 48th minute and
his team went on to win 3-2. He scored a total of five goals.
1993/94 - DALE WHITE - Round 1 - 5th October. Striker
White scored in the 54th minute. This was White’s second
and final season with the Wolves. Following on, he played at
Preston Lions, Bulleen Lions and Bentleigh Greens in Victoria
at least up until 1998.
#PS4NPLNSW
1992/93 -PAUL MCFADDEN - Round 2 - 5th October.
McFadden scored the only goal in this match. It eventuated
two minutes before half time. McFadden had only been
signed from APIA two weeks before this match and this was
the beginning of his second stint with the club. A Preston
player had minutely deflected a Matthew Horsley shot. It
went out to McFadden positioned about twenty metres out.
He struck the ball powerfully and it traversed into the top left
hand corner of the goal. This was his solitary strike for the
season. He scored a further two goals in 1993/94.
1991/92- JOHN O’SHEA - Round 1 - 7th October. Central
defender O’Shea scored with a header in the 28th minute.
Richard Lloyd who was positioned on the corner of the goal
area box flicked a David Green long throw on. This flicked on
header found its way to O’Shea waiting at the near post. APIA
was the opponent and the Wolves won 2-0. O’Shea played
four seasons with the Wolves, this season being his first.
1990/91- MILADIN KUC - Round 1 - 7th October. Kuc
was a young striker in this season, his first and only one.
At Connor Reserve versus Preston Makedonia, Kuc seized
upon a defender error and then rounded the keeper to slot
home. This eventuated in the 13th minute. He went close to
getting a penalty decision later in that same match after he
was scythed down but the referee was not convinced. Two
more goals were scored later in the season from a total of 21
starting appearances. He went on to play for Kuala Lumpur
FC in 1991.
1989/90 - PAUL McFADDEN - Round 2 - 12th November.
McFadden scored his team’s first goal against APIA at the
Lambert Park venue. This was the midfielder’s first season
with the Wolves and this strike was the first of three in this
season. He scored a brace in Round 17 against Sydney
Olympic. Following on, he went to APIA for two seasons and
was back at the Wolves in 1992/93.
1989 - DANNY CRAINIE - Round 2 - 27th January. Crainie
dispatched the ball after receiving a square pass from Mineo
Bonetig. With five minutes having elapsed on the clock,
Crainie from twenty metres out fired in a shot that eluded
the Blacktown goalkeeper. The final score was a 4-1 win
for the Wolves. Scotsman Crainie was signed from South
Melbourne and was a skilful left wide player who liked to
take players on. He was a good crosser of the ball. Totalling
78 appearances and the scorer of 7 goals, Crainie played
three seasons with the Wolves -1988. 1989, 1989/90, leaving
to return to Scotland with the Airdrieonianns club.
1988 - ALAN BRAZIL - Round 1 - 1st February. Scottish
international and guest player Brazil scored on his Wolves’
debut at Brandon Park on a rainy night. Fellow Scot, Danny
Craine who operated on the left put the ball across the face
of goal. Brazil was waiting at the far post. The ball reached
him and he followed up by powerfully driving the ball into
the goal in the 28th minute. Brazil’s goal was the first of three
for his team in the 3-1 wins over St. George. Brazil totalled
four goals from twelve games.
NPLNSW.COM.AU
1987 - FRANK DEMERTZIS - Round 1- 7th March. Demertzis
scored from the penalty spot in his club debut away against
Uruguayan Penrith at Cook Park on the hour mark and this
turned out to be his only appearance. 1986 - SAUL RIVERO - Round 1 - 31st March. Rivero was a
very skilful Argentinean player whose tenure at the Wolves
was curtailed due to a serious injury sustained in a tackle
in the return Round 12 match with Marconi. However, in
the games that he played he displayed his creativity and skill
on the ball. For this goal he headed in a Peter Kotamanidis
cross in the 7th minute at WIN Stadium. This was the first of
a brace against Marconi. Rivero played seven games in total
and scored three goals.
1985 - DOMINIC GIANNONE - Round 1-10th March. At
Lambert Park versus APIA Leichhardt, Giannone scored in
the 56th minute. He went on to have 10 appearances and
one substitute start, scoring three goals in all.
1984 - ALEX BUNDALO - Round 2 - 11th March. The skilful
midfield player Bundalo struck first barely two minutes after
the opening whistle sounded. Unfortunately Sydney City
scored three. This was the quickest goal of the season and
one of four that he achieved. He scored a further three goals
in the following season. Playing a total of 47 games with one
appearance (Seasons 1984 and 1985) off the bench, he was
on the score sheet no less than seven times.
1983 - PHIL O’CONNOR - Round 1 - 13th March. O’Connor
got onto the score sheet early, the eighth minute to be exact
versus Brisbane City at home. Midfielder Larry Gaffney set
it up with a clever pass directly to O’Connor. Shrugging off
a couple of markers, he projected a low drive into the net.
O’Connor was equal top scorer in this season with 12 goals.
He scored a total of 88 goals in the NSL with four clubs and
was 18th on the all time scorers’ list.
1982 - PHIL O’CONNOR - Round 2 - 21st February.
Left footed striker O’Connor scored in the 25th minute.
O’Connor, who played two seasons with the Wolves, was top
scorer in1982 with 16 goals. He also previously played for
Balgownie in the Illawarra. He represented the Socceroos
from the Wolves playing against England in 1983.
1981 - JIM McBREEN – Round 1 – 15th February. McBreen
scored after 20 minutes against Sydney Olympic. A free kick
was defected on to the post with the resultant rebound
bound going straight to McBreen. He did not miss the
target and the crowd of 5,930 was ecstatic. McBreen left
for APIA (playing 23 games) after his first season with the
Wolves but returned after a year away for another stint.
In this season, he made 25 starting appearances with one
off the bench, scoring 7 goals. In 1983 he made a further
21+1(Sub) appearances and in Round 14 on the 12th June
versus Adelaide City he achieved a brace. His final game for
the Wolves occurred on 16th October, 1983 versus Brisbane
Lions in the final game.
