The race is organized by:

2. Regulations
The race will be held in compliance with the documents and regulations as mentioned in
the Notice of Race 2011.
3. Advertising
The race is classified in Category C in accordance with RRS Appendix 1 - ISAF
Advertising Code. The Organizing Authority will use sponsor advertising.
The advertising ensign shall be clearly attached to the yachts and may be removed after
the starts.
4. Registration
Competitors whose yachts have been approved by the Safety Inspection Committee and
have completed their registration at the Race Office, as described in the Notice of Race,
are eligible to race and will receive a start certificate.
5. Insurance
All competing teams must hold valid insurance coverage, as described in the Notice of
Race 211.
6. Changes in sailing instructions
Any change to the Sailing Instructions will be delivered written before start of the 3 Legs.
This will be indicated by flag ‘L’
before Skippers meeting.

7. Safety Regulations
Competing yachts shall have an overall length of 30’ or more and constructed and
equipped in accordance with ISAF Safety Regulations for Offshore racing, 2010 - 2011,
category 2.
NOTE: Yachts carrying propane are required by Lerwick Harbour to have a gas detector
installed.
8. Safety inspection
Yachts shall be presented to safety control to the fixed time and location as decided by
the Race Committee.
9. Crew limit
Every boat shall have a crew of 2 persons.

10. Minimum fuel and water
Yachts shall have a minimum have a minimum amount of fuel to be able to make a
course of 200 nautical miles under engine. See NoR 4.3 b
Yachts shall carry a minimum amount of drinking water according ISAF Spec. Reg. 20102011 Cat 2.
11. Use of engine
No means of mechanical propulsion may be used during the race other than the power
of the wind in the boat’s sails and the use of oars/paddles. An internal combustion
engine, which may be the auxiliary engine of the boat, may be used as an energy source
to generate the necessary power for the boat’s equipment, drainage of keelson, to hoist
an anchor and warping from ground.
These restrictions is not a hinder for using a motor to rescue a man over board, or to give
assistance (RRS 1.1 and 41), and neither to use it in any dangerous situation, but under such
circumstances a full written report shall be given.
12. Responsibility / Safety
The skipper on board has the full and only responsibility for the decision that the boat is
sound and sufficiently equipped, and that he and co-skipper are physically, mentally and
medically capable of finishing the race.
The Race Committee will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury
or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
13. Skippers meetings
Scheveningen - Skippers meeting will be in at the Scheveningen Yacht Club “At Sea”,
Wednesday 15th June at 1600 LT.
Bergen - Skippers meeting will be at Radisson BLU Hotel Norge, Nedre Ole Bulls
square in Bergen City, Tuesday 21st June at 1900 LT
NOTE: We will provide transport from the Askøy Sailing Club Marina to the Radisson
BLU Hotel Norge.
Lerwick - Skippers meeting will be in the club Lerwick Boating Club, Sunday 26th June
at 0830 LT.
If possible written weather forecast and updated lists will be distributed, together with
all information of general character.
14. Classes
All yachts will compete in one class.

15. LEG 1 SCHEVENINGEN - BERGEN.
START TIME
Thursday 16th June 2011 at ‘tba’ LT
COURSE
From start near ‘SCH’ Red/White Buoy to the finish West of the island Herdla, at the
approximate position N 060:34,75’ / E 004:55,7’ via WP 1 Gate*
* WP 1 Gate: Teams should pass WP1 Gate from W to E.
This ‘gate’ is located between the Hellisøy Lighthouse at Fedje and N 60:43.900 /
E 004:41.70
NOTE:
An important Maritime Traffic & Pilot Control Station is located at island of Fedje (FEDJE
TRAFFIC - VHF 80).
If you have any concern about the situation at WP1 Gate (traffic, weather or sea state), we
strongly advise you to consult FEDJE TRAFFIC at VHF 16 or 80.

START LINE
The starting line will be the line between two orange (or yellow) buoys or between the
orange (or yellow) buoy and the starting vessel, if the flag signal M’
is displayed.
The starting line will be in open water, at approximate location near white/red buoy
‘SCH’. The line must be crossed in NE-direction.
START PROCEDURE
All classes start together. The race will be started on GPS time and without flags and
without the usual signals. This changes rule 26.

During the starting procedure, if possible, the starter announces the start on VHF 72
and will do countdowns.
Referring to NOR 11:
A time penalty of 30 minutes will be applied to competitors OCS. A boat crossing the
line more than 5 minutes early has not started the race and will have to restart.
FINISH LINE
Located at the west side of the island Herdla.
West end of finish line is a buoy in position, approx N 060:34,75’ / E 004:55,7’
(The position is marked as ‘Gjevleskallen’ (‘devils head’) in the official Norwegian Charts)
East end of finish line is a flag on land.
The boat finishes by crossing the line from N to S
FINISH PROCEDURE
30 Min before ETA: report yourself on VHF 8. They will reply to '1000 mile finish
line control'

below, taking the above protocol into account.

16. LEG 2 BERGEN - LERWICK
START TIME
Wednesday 22nd June at 1300 LT.
COURSE
Start from E to W in the waters between Tekslo to N and Marsteinen Lighthouse to S.
Sail west in the North Sea to the Finish Line Lerwick Harbour.
You choose whether to take the entrance N or S of Bressay.
START LINE:
The starting line will be between 2 orange buoys, or between 1 orange buoy and the
starting vessel, if flag signal ‘M’
is displayed.
The starting line will be in open water between Tekslo and Marsteinen, outer
Korsfjorden.
START PROCEDURE
All classes start together using class flag ‘D’.
and ‘P’
Races will be started using RRS 26 with an extra attention signal 10 min. before start.

towards the light on Maryfield Ferry Terminal (Bressay).
The boat finishes by crossing the finish line either from N or from S, according to the
chosen approach.
FINISH PROCEDURE
When passing the finish line every yacht shall record date and finish time in LT
(hh.mm.ss).
If possible, you shall also note the sail number of the competitor ahead and behind you.
The finish time recorded by the race timekeeper will be leading.
Within reasonable time before the yacht crosses the finish line report to the finish team
on VHF 8. They reply to: '1000 mile finish line control'
A request when finishing in the dark: Shine a light at the sail number when you pass the
line.

17. LEG 3 LERWICK - BERGEN
START TIME
Sunday 26th June at 11:00 LT
COURSE
Start Lerwick Harbour, and then sail south through Bressay Sound, out in the North Sea
with Bard Head (the south point of Bressay) to be left on port. Continue over the North
Sea and into the Korsfjorden and across the finish line at Marsteinen.
START LINE
The starting line in Lerwick Harbour will be the line from the signal mast on the pier for
Lerwick Boating Club, towards the light on Maryfield Ferry Terminal (Bressay), i.e. if you
take a bearing to the light on Maryfield Ferry Terminal, character: Oc.WRG., on 064
degrees without correction for deviation.
START PROCEDURE
All classes start together using class flag ‘D’.

Marsteinen lighthouse and Tekslo light. A boat finishes by crossing the line in direction
from W to E

18. Rules during and after the start

19. Passing platforms in the North Sea
When passing platforms or other installations in the North Sea the yachts shall keep a
distance of at least 500 meter to the installations.
20. Position and passing reports during the race

On the way to and from Shetland the yachts shall give their call signal, sail number, boat
name and position according to the following table:

* When reporting at 000º 00' W and at outer limits for Lerwick harbour, you shall be
ready to state the yachts speed in knot and estimated time for arrival in Lerwick.
** Shetland Coast Guard shall be called on channel 16. When contact is established you
will be asked to change to working channel 67.
If the attempts to report are unsuccessful the boat should contact other competitors
nearby and report to them. Notify in the finish declaration scheme the name of the boat
you reported to.
Continue to call the radio stations (Rogaland Radio, Florø Radio, Shetland Coast Guard
or Lerwick Harbour Trust) until contact is established.
21. Time Limits
There are no time limits. Be there before the start of the next Leg.
22. Yachts declarations & report to the race committee
Every boat shall deliver a written declaration after each race. The declaration shall
contain date and time of finishing and information regarding position / passing all
mentioned points given under way.
The declaration shall be delivered to a representative of the Race Committee

If a boat encounters incidents during the race, which could be an infringement of some
of the rules for the race it shall be reported in the Boat Declaration.
23. Scoring penalty
A Scoring Penalty will be applied if infringements of the rules have taken place.
24. Retire from the race
Teams who retire from the race shall, if possible, report two times:
1. As soon as the boat retires from the race.
2. As soon as possible, after the boat arrives in harbour or are secured in safety.
A report of retirement from the race shall contain:
- Yachts sail number and name
- Position or locality
- Time of retirement / arrival in harbour
- Reason for retirement and the condition of crew and boat
- Destination

25. Protests and request for redress
Protest forms are delivered to each boat.
Yachts intending to protest shall report this immediately after finishing to the finish team.
Protests shall be delivered to the Race Office or representative within 3 hours after the
boat finished the leg
26. Ranks, scoring and prize giving
The race will be run as a cumulative series of 3 races using a low scoring system, 1 point
for first in rank, 2 for second, etc.
Leg 1 (Scheveningen - Bergen) has a value of 0.5. The other legs have value 1.
In the event of a points tie the position will be decided on the basis of the result in the
longest leg (1).
There will also be awards for the winners of each leg. The overall price is awarded after
the final leg at the prize giving in Bergen.
In leg 2 and 3 the teams will also be ranked in the Shetland Bergen Races (In theory
yachts can win 2 Leg prizes).
Prize giving of Leg 1 will be held at Askøy Yachtclub after the arrival of the last team
Prize giving of Leg 2 will be held in Lerwick on Friday night 24th june
Prize giving of Leg 3 and IRC overall prize will be held in Bergen Tuesday 28th June.

29. Berthing after Leg 1
After Leg 1, participating boats are kindly requested to take a berth at the ASKØY
Seilsportcenter. (see chart)
It is a well-equipped marina, with good facilities, washing machine, free Internet, etc.
There are also a limited number of apartments available.
The approach to the harbour seems difficult at the chart, in reality it is quite easy to find.
Under exceptional circumstances, such as bad visibility or nightfall, assistance can be
requested from the finish team of Leg 1.
