General Information about Living Off-campus:
If you choose to live in off-campus housing, please read the following
information before signing any agreement:
A lease is a legally binding agreement between you and your landlord
(property owner) for a specific period of time. You (the tenant) are responsible
for paying the rent (monthly fee) of the apartment for the entire length of the
lease, usually one year. If you wish to leave the apartment before the end of the
lease, you will have to find another person to sublease your apartment or pay
the rest of the rent until the end of the lease. If you break your lease and move
somewhere else, you may have to pay extra money. Therefore, it is very
important that you read the lease carefully before you make your decision.
The lease (also called a "rental agreement") contains important information such
as: (1) the rent amount; (2) the required deposit amount (usually one or two
months' rent that is paid immediately to the landlord to pay for repairs in case
the apartment is damaged while you are living there); (3) the length of the
lease's term; (4) the rules concerning the apartment (e.g. pets, noise, etc.); (5)
which utilities (gas, electricity and water) you will pay and which the landlord
pays; and (6) the lease termination requirements.
**It is highly recommended that you consult the GEORGIA LANDLORD TENANT
HANDBOOK provided by Georgia’s Department of Community Affairs to learn
about your rights and responsibilities when leasing an apartment or home.

Neighborhoods around
Emory
The apartments listed in this guide are just a few off-campus housing options around the
Emory area. Below you can find more information on neighborhoods surrounding Emory
where you can also consider living.
Info made available through:
http://blog.promove.com/atlanta/atlanta-neighborhood/
Druid Hills (5-10 minutes from campus):
Emory is located in the Druid Hills neighborhood. This area is mainly residential
with several large gated apartment complexes and some duplexes students live in.
Decatur (10-15 minutes from campus):
This “small town” is located 10-15 minutes away from Emory. Downtown Decatur
has restaurants, bars, and boutiques that Emory students frequent. Most students who
live in Decatur rent duplexes or houses.
26
Morningside/Virginia-Highland (10-15 minutes from campus):
At the center of the Morningside/Virginia-Highland neighborhoods is North
Highland Ave, a trendy street with a lot of bars and restaurants. Many young people
live in this area in one of a few large apartment complexes, small older apartment
buildings, or in duplexes and houses for rent.
Candler Park/Inman Park (10-15 minutes from campus):
These artsy neighborhoods have houses and small apartments for rent. Located
between these two neighborhoods is the Little Five Points district with restaurants, hipster
bars, and second-hand shops.
Midtown (20 minutes from campus):
Midtown consists of mostly high-rise living or duplexes near Piedmont Park - a
large park located close to downtown with biking and walking trails and a lot of open
green space. The main drag in Atlanta, Peachtree Road, runs through Midtown, and
there are bars and clubs along both Peachtree Street and nearby Crescent Avenue.
Buckhead (20-25 minutes from campus):
Buckhead is Atlanta’s main shopping district and most ritzy neighborhood. Many
new college graduates live in one of the many large apartment complexes near Lenox
or Phipps Malls.
