EpiSTlE
Galatians 4. 22-31.
Brethren: It is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave and one by a free woman. But
the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, the son of the free woman through promise. Now
this is an allegory: these women are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar. Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for
she is in slavery with her children. But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother. For it is written, “Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear; break forth and shout, you who are not in travail; for
the children of the desolate one are many more than the children of her that is married.” Now we,
brethren, like Isaac, are children of promise. But as at that time he who was born according to the flesh
persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now. But what does the scripture say?
“Cast out the slave and her son; for the son of the slave shall not inherit with the son of the free woman.”
So, brethren, we are not children of the slave but of the free woman.
At Low Mass the response is deo gratias. There is no response to the sung Epistle.

TrACT
Psalms 125. 1-2.
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Sion, which cannot be moved, but abides for ever.
As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people, from this time
forth and for evermore.

St John 6. 1-15.
At that time Jesus went went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. And a multitude followed him, because they saw the signs which he did on those who were diseased.
Jesus went up on the mountain, and there sat down with his disciples. Now the Passover, the feast of the
Jews, was at hand. Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a multitude was coming to him, Jesus said
to Philip, “How are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” This he said to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii would not buy enough bread
for each of them to get a little.” One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, “There
is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what are they among so many?” Jesus said,
“Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place; so the men sat down, in number
about five thousand. Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to
those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted. And when they had eaten their fill, he
told his disciples, “Gather up the fragments left over, that nothing may be lost.” So they gathered them
up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves, left by those who had eaten. When
the people saw the sign which he had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into
the world.” Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king,
Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

Lent
It is truly fitting and proper, right and profitable to salvation, that we should at all times and in
all places give thanks to you, Lord, holy Father, Almighty and everlasting God: for by fasting of the body
you curb our vices, you lift up our minds, you give us strength and reward us; through Christ our Lord.
Through whom the Angels praise your Majesty, the Dominions worship it, and the Powers stand in awe.
The heavens and the heavenly hosts, together with the blessed Seraphim all sing together a hymn of
glory. And we pray that you will be pleased to admit our voices also, to say with lowly praise:
