STUDENT NEWS
Girls Harvest Cup
Tournament Champions
by Sarah Klem
The Girls Harvest Cup team won the
championships after many victories
throughout the tournament. They easily
beat Plaza Vista 10-0 in their first game
on Friday night which sent a message to
the rest of their competitors. Their
second game was won by a final score
of 8-0 against Westpark and they
continued to march ahead with a strong
lead. At their third game in the
tournament the girls defeated University
Park with a final score of 7-0 which
earned them a spot in the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, Brywood scored the
first goal, but the Stone Creek girls
toughened up and tied it the game with
Sara Klem scoring in the first half. Carly
Schinhofen followed that goal up by
scoring the winning goal and Bella
Watson scored a third to assure them a
spot in the finals with a final score of
3-1.
For the second straight year in a row,
the Stone Creek Girls made it to the
Harvest Cup Tournament Finals. In the
championship game Maddie Stottlemyer
scored the game winning goal, which
the girls fought all game to keep, and
won Stone Creek’s first ever Harvest
Cup Championship in 35 years!
Congratulations to all the girls this
year for making history and to
Mr. Hernandez for winning the Harvest
Cup.

Boys Harvest Cup
Irvine Hoops Classic
This year’s Stone Creek Boys Harvest
Cup team had a great tournament. Led
by Mr. Clarke, this year’s Eagles worked
extremely hard. After seven long and
hard practices the boys were ready.
Every year, each school in Irvine has the
option to create a Basketball team to
compete against other schools in a
single elimination tournament, called
Irvine Hoops Classic. This year, Stone
Creek has entered two teams, one
being a boys team and one being a girls
team. Mr. Hernandez has volunteered
to coach the boys team and the girls
team is coached by Mr. and Mrs. Wong
Nakata, and Mr. Yost.
By Ryan Valentine
Their first game was against a very
strong Vista Verde team. But the boys
were prepared. With an outstanding
performance by goalkeeper Jordan
Burns, the boys held on for a 0-0 tie in
the first half. When the second half
began Stone Creek had a few more
chances at goal but Vista Verde was still
pressuring hard. Jordan Burns stayed
amazing in goal and saved us several
more times. Finally, in the last 4 minutes
Vista Verde broke through and scored.
The boys pushed on but it was just too
late.
Vista Verde went on to win the final
with ease. The boys had a good run but
just came up short. However, the
Screamin’ Eagles will be back next year
and better than ever.
Irvine Hoops Classic
Girls Basketball Team
by Lauren Tsai
Hoops Classic is a basketball
tournament in which 5th-8th graders
participate. This competitive sports
event is a great way to stay physically
active and have fun. The tournament
will be held on November 8 this year.
Come down and cheer the team on!
Let’s wish both the boys and girls teams
good luck in this year’s Hoops Classic.
Here is the roster for the girls’ team.

Both teams are practicing very hard,
attempting to achieve a win this year for
Stone Creek Elementary. The boys
team will be playing Alderwood on
Sunday, November 8 at University High
School at 8:30 am, while the girls team
will be playing Woodbury also at
University High School on Sunday,
November 8 at 1:10 pm.
Rapid Fire Tournament
by Mia Goren
Rapid fire is fun game in which you try
and score a goal. There is a small ball
and you toss it around to try and score
a goal. You wear flags that players on
the opposing team have to pull. If your
flags are pulled, you have to drop the
ball. You cannot pull someone else’s
flags before they have the ball. You are
also not allowed to kick the ball.
Stone Creek is holding a rapid fire
tournament, as they did last year. The
tournament starts on Monday,
November 9, through Friday, December
4. The Rapid Fire Tournament is for the
4th through 6th grades. The tournament
is single elimination. This means that if
you lose, you’re out. This is an
extremely fun tournament, so I suggest
you grab your friends, and sign up to
play! You’ll have a blast!
November Spirit Day
By Avlyn Singer
November 24 will be our next Stone
Creek spirit day. Team Stone Creek will
come up with the spirit day theme, so
watch for posters around the school. If
you're not interested in participating in
the November spirit day we
recommend you wear spirit wear or
wear blue and gold.

Irvine Hoops Classic – Nov. 8
IPSF has teamed up with Irvine Youth Basketball League and SoCal Elite Sports to present the 12th Annual Irvine
Hoops Classic Basketball Tournament this Sunday, November 8! The tournament promotes school spirit and
unites the Irvine community through a district-wide competition for elementary and middle schools. This year, over
300 students will have the opportunity to play on one of 35 teams, with 21 schools represented.
Who will take home the title? Show your school spirit and cheer on your team! Games will be held at Irvine High
School and University High School! Visit www.irvineyouthsports.org/basketball for questions and to see the final
bracket schedule (posted by Thursday).
Wristbands are $5 for adults, $1 for kids 6-12, and free for 5 and under and are good for admission to all games at
both locations. Volunteers (16 years or older) are needed to check wristbands and sell tickets at each entrance of
the event. Sign up for a shift at www.ipsf.net/volunteer or contact Stephanie Campbell at [email protected].
Annual Campaign - Think Future, Give Now
Did you know that Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) is one of the lowest funded districts in the country? Irvine
expects more for their children than just the basics provided by state funding. IPSF raises funds through the
annual campaign for critical educational areas including reading, math, science, technology and music - programs
no longer fully funded by the state. We depend on the generous support of parents, community members and
business leaders to provide financial support and fill the gap. Think future, give now. Learn more and donate
online at www.ipsf.net/thinkfuture.
Please Help Support IPSF…
TLT Food, Irvine Spectrum – Mondays & Wednesdays All Month
Help us celebrate the one year anniversary TLT Food at Irvine Spectrum Center! Dine in or take out on Mondays
and Wednesdays the entire month of November and 15% of your bill will be donated to IPSF. That is nine
opportunities to enjoy crisp, California cuisine of TLT Food and support Irvine schools! Be sure to present the flyer
- either print out the flyer or show it on your phone.
Holiday Shopping at Irvine Spectrum – Nov. 21-22
Beat the Black Friday rush and shop Irvine Spectrum Center on Nov. 21-22. Not only will you be supporting
Irvine schools, but you can also receive a gift for yourself AND your entire school. Bring receipts totaling $250 or
more from qualifying stores to the Guest Services Kiosk and you will receive a $50 gift card! Don't forget to
mention your school - the campus with the most rewards will win an ice rink party at the OC Chill for the entire
school! See the flyer for details and get shopping.
