Lifetime Achievement: Congratulations Margie Booz
Wonderling for her exemplary community
service.
Over the years, Margie’s work with the mural
arts project, Main Street planters, free window
displays for downtown businesses and many
others have helped put Lansdale on the map.
She and her family have one of the best
looking stores in town, Chantilly Floral at 29
W. Main Street, one that makes our Main
Street shine.
As it says on her award, “Through her tireless
Congratulations to Margie Booz on
being Lansdale’s first female Lifetime Achievement Award recipient!
From the moment her shop doors
opened on Main Street in 1976,
Margie has been a tireless booster
for Lansdale and has had a longterm impact on the way people
think about the Borough. Her work
with the Holiday History Tours, First
Fridays and many other events
show that this florist has her roots
firmly planted in the community.
As a result of her professional
expertise and infectious enthusiasm,
Margie was recognized on a
national level when she was invited
to Washington, DC in 2015 to help
decorate the White House and its
traditional Christmas trees.
And we are not the first to
recognize Margie’s community
spirit. She received accolades from
late Senator Edwin Holl and
former State Representative Rob
efforts, Margie Booz has helped Lansdale
look beautiful through all seasons. As one of
the Borough’s premier business owners, she
has always set the bar high for others to
follow, but has always been on the ready to
offer assistance, advice and support whenever
needed. She
has left her
indelible mark
on this town
and we thank
her for her
unfailing
commitment to
the experience
of living,
working and
shopping in
Lansdale.”

Upcoming Events
OCTOBER
Discover Lansdale, the non-profit dedicated to helping the Borough grow as
a vibrant and evolving destination for businesses and families, has purchased
the historic former Reading Co. freight station in an effort to preserve a vital
piece of Lansdale’s heritage.

The purchase of the structure, located at the intersection of South Broad and
Vine Streets, was part of a multi-stage agreement between the previous
owners and the Lansdale Parking Authority. The authority purchased the
entire property from those owners to increase the inventory of parking spots
in the Borough; Discover Lansdale then self-funded the purchase of the
building for $60,000 from the Authority, and signed a 99-year lease with the
Authority for the land on which it sits.

The station, which has been unoccupied for more than three decades, was
constructed in 1903 and holds an important place in Lansdale’s history. For
many years it served as the shipping terminal for the town’s major industries,
including the Heebner Agricultural Works, the Cox Stove Works, Franklin/
American Olean Tile Co., Lansdale Tube Co. and numerous large hosiery
mills. It was also a transfer terminal for goods destined for Norristown or
Doylestown.

Efforts to save the freight station have been under discussion for more than
a decade. Among those concerned about the building’s fate has been the
Lansdale Historical Society, which included it
among its list of most endangered historic
structures in Lansdale. Discover Lansdale
plans to form a committee among multiple
community stakeholders to oversee
restoration efforts and to examine potential
community uses for the building.
