Non-Credit Courses
Non-Credit Course Fees are due at the time of registration. Payment may be made by credit card (Visa,
MasterCard, or Discover), check, money order, or cash. Faxed registrations must be paid by credit card.
You may register and pay your fees by Internet, fax, or by mail. Internet and faxed applications require
the use of MasterCard, Visa, or Discover. Fees are due at the time you register. Our office is located in
the Freeman Building on the Southwest Tennessee Community College Macon Cove Campus located at
5983 Macon Cove. Office Hours are 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, excluding holidays. To view

Non-Credit Refund Policy
A full refund of non-credit course fees will be granted if we receive your written request to cancel your
registration at least two business days prior to the course start date. There are no refunds thereafter. If

Textbook Information
Textbooks are required for many of the classes and may be purchased in the campus bookstores. If you
need to contact the campus bookstores, call the Macon Cove Campus Bookstore at (901) 333-4227 or
the Union Avenue Campus Bookstore at (901) 333-5452. If the course description is not specific as to
whether you need to purchase a textbook, please call (901) 333-4207. Do not write in or unwrap your
books until the first class meeting. Be sure to keep your receipt and familiarize yourself with bookstore
policies. Textbooks for most one- or two-day computer classes are included in the price of the class and will
be issued on the first day of class.
Parking
Parking is free to Corporate Training & Continuing Education students enrolled in non-credit classes on
all Southwest campuses/centers and sites. Students may cut out the temporary parking permit on this
page or print a copy from our website to display on their windshield. Students should park only in areas
designated for students (white lined areas). Red lines are reserved for faculty/staff and green areas
are reserved for visitors. For a complete list of parking rules and regulations, please go to http://www.

Cancellations and Changes
We reserve the right to cancel, postpone, limit enrollment, split or combine classes, or change instructors
and class locations when necessary. Posted non-credit course fees are subject to change.
Inclement Weather
Inclement weather sometimes requires that classes be rescheduled. Southwest notifies the public of closings via the college’s Website http://www.southwest.tn.edu and the local broadcast news media. If the
college is closed, our classes will not be held.
Returned Check Fee
If a check presented for registration is returned by the bank, a $30 penalty is assessed. The student will
be withdrawn from school if the check is not redeemed and the $30 penalty paid (in cash) within 10 days.
All other returned checks are also subject to a $30 penalty.
Transcripts
For transcripts of non-credit courses taken prior to the Fall 2009 term, please request a transcript from the college’s admission and records office. Fees for transcripts and certificate replacements are subject to change. Transcripts for non-credit courses are maintained for five years. Please allow at least 5 business days for processing.

The Master Unlimited Air Conditioning (Master Mechanical)
exam is designed to test the candidate’s knowledge of the
design, installation, maintenance, repair, fabrication, alteration, and extension of air conditioning, refrigeration, piping
vessels, warm air heating, low and high pressure boilers, ventilation systems, duct systems, insulation, and related knowledge. This class is designed for those that have prerequisite
fundamental knowledge and experience with air conditioning
systems and are trying to prepare for the Master Unlimited Air
Conditioning License Exam. There are several books required
in order to sit for the open book exam and most of these
books will be required for this course. Required books will be
available in the Macon Cove Campus bookstore. Students will
practice using sample questions and not actual test questions.
Prerequisites: Air Conditioning Principles I and Air Conditioning
Principles II and/or adequate training and work experience in
the industry. This is a 40-contact-hour course.

Shelby County First-Class or Third-Class Steam Operating
Engineer license exam. Topics include high pressure and low
pressure boiler operations, piping design, safety, steam traps,
code compliance, and prevention of explosions. Learning will

The OSHA 10-Hour for general industry is a shorter presentation of the topics covered in the 30-Hour. Workers engaged in
the hands on work of production, distribution and warehousing, service delivery and retail will receive practical instruction
in the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of
safety and health hazards as wells as workers’ rights and

DACUM, Developing A Curriculum, is a foundation for
organizational structure and development. DACUM is an occupational analysis process that taps the expertise of skilled
workers to determine what knowledge, skills, standards, tools,
and attitudes are required to perform a specific job. The use
of the DACUM assessment benefits both employers and employees. Through brainstorming, questioning, discussions and
content quality reviews, DACUM captures each task in sufficient
detail so that training, organizational restructuring, employee

industry and government leaders, to provide relevant
skills training, both soft and technical, in the greater
Memphis area. This course is designed to prepare
adults for entry level positions as general assembly

to technical and interpersonal knowledge and skills
which have been identified by local industry leaders

THIS COURSE IS ONLY FOR THOSE EMS PROFESSIONALS
CURRENTLY LICENSED AS AN EMT or EMT extended skills.
An Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, or AEMT, is a
step between the EMT and the Paramedic. The AEMT certification is new to the state of Tennessee. The AEMT gives
EMS providers a stepping-stone between the two levels of
credentialing. An AEMT is positioned or intended to help alleviate the gap between the EMT and Paramedic by allowing
EMTs to progress towards licensure as a Paramedic and use
more advanced skills to ensure patient well-being. AEMTs are
also responsible for advanced and critical care in emergency
situations. Like Paramedics and EMTs, they typically work in
the emergency care setting such as an ambulance service, fire
department, air medical transport or in the hospital setting.
This course is designed to prepare you with more than an
advanced understanding of emergency medicine compared
to the EMT. AEMTs are accountable for everything that an
EMT performs, along with more specialized life-saving skills.
These classes are designed to review and update to current standards the EMS perspective of pre-hospital patient
emergency medical care. First responders, EMT basic, intermediate and paramedic professionals will work together
in the classroom environment. Topics include multilevel
patient assessment, adjunct/equipment use, interventions,
packaging and transport. Each participant will work within
the parameters of his or her licensure to provide total patient care. Lectures and class discussions will be reinforced
with realistic scenarios and skill stations. The curriculum is

level positions in one of the fastest growing health care
positions. The purpose of this course is to familiarize
the student with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting

This 50-hour Dialysis Technician Program provides students
with the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties
required of Dialysis Technicians. Under the supervision of
physicians and registered nurses, Dialysis Technicians operate kidney dialysis machines, prepare dialyzer reprocessing
and delivery systems as well as maintain and repair equipment. Furthermore, technicians work with patients during
dialysis procedures and monitor and record vital signs as

program prepares students to understand and use electronic
records in a medical practice. Access to health information
is changing the ways doctors care for their patients. Doctors
now have access to a patient’s medical history, surgeries,
allergies to medicines, and recent doctor’s visits all at the
press of a button. This recent technology that intertwines
health information from a variety of sources is known as
an electronic health record. An electronic health record (EH
R) includes computerized lifelong healthcare data from a
variety sources where every encounter an individual has
with the healthcare system is documented and compiled
for quick access. Electronic Health Record professionals
are educated in the implementation and management
of electronic health information using common electronic
data interchange systems such as HL7, CDISC, and DICOM.
Students will learn through classroom and computer lab
training the necessary components consistent with maintaining the medical, legal, accreditation and regulatory
