A VERY SPECIAL HOLIDAY SURPRISE
For many years, we’ve had a piece of theater paraphernalia floating
around program. Its an old leg prop that Niki acquired from Cathie,
who originally got it from one of Bill Graham’s tours. We got
inspired by the movie “A Christmas Story” and decided to make it
into a silly present for Easter Seals C.E.O. Gary. It took us about
two months to repair the leg, repaint it, and construct the
lamp. The funniest part was when we took the leg along
on outings to shop for fishnet stockings, lacy garters,
and spike-heeled shoes. We really surprised Gary!!
DEPARTING STAFF
Sarah has moved to the great state of Arizona. We’ve all enjoyed her time with us
and we’ll miss her very much! Enjoy the Grand Canyon State, Sarah! Reyana and
Aleena have both transferred up to the Easter Seals ACE-IT II Program in Citrus
Heights. We’ll miss them both, too, but at least we’ll get to see them each year at the
Independence Day Celebration and the Thanksgiving Feast !
SEWING PROJECT
Elean joined the sewing club
this month and made a lovely
pillow as a gift for his mom.

NATOMAS VISIT
We went to see our High School friends
and Mr. Joel gave us a special tour of
their newly completed Joey`s Locker. We
celebrated Justin’s birthday while there
and Mr. Joel gave him a cool new
Sacramento Kings hat! They even made
us grilled cheese and soup for lunch.
ARMY SCIENCE: MRE
C.S.T. Sarah shared her military
training with our Science Class. We
discussed what an MRE is (it means
Meal Ready to Eat). One MRE is
designed to give a person a full-day’s
worth of calories while they are in the
field. Each MRE contains a thermal
pouch that heats the meal by just
adding water. It also has spoon, salt and pepper, a napkin, matches, flavored drink
powder, instant coffee, sugar, creamer, and either peanut butter or cheese spread.
The one Sarah shared with us had a main course of maple sausage and a maple
muffin top with trail mix and crackers. It was great! The muffin top was yummy!!
GOOD FORTUNE
Chuck went to Panda Express
after a visit to Sac State Library.
He got an inspirational fortune
cookie and wanted to share the
message with us.
“Do not dwell on differences with
a loved one. Try a compromise!”

A VERY SPECIAL GIFT
Sam spent three months making a pillow for a
friend. He worked diligently on this special
sewing project, and he was extremely proud to
finish it. This was a difficult, detailed sewing
pattern, but he overcame some frustration and
persevered with beautiful results. Congrats, Sam!
NEW ACE-IT I STAFF
Zalikatu (“Zee”), Larry, and Jakail all joined our staff this month, and we’re very glad to have them!
Welcome to the team, everyone!

MUSEUM TOUR
Ken arranged a special tour for us at the
Don & June Salvatori California Pharmacy
Museum out in Natomas. Our helpful guide
was a kind, sweet gentleman named Don
Brooks, and he took us through the 1890’s
Room, the 1940’s Room, and the Modern
Pharmacy Room. It was all fascinating!

Sam found us a healthy-eating
cookbook at Barnes & Noble a few
weeks ago. We picked out this fun
recipe for a hearty vegetarian Moroccan
stew. While cooking, we learned that we
do not always need to have meat in a
meal: we can get protein from beans as
well. Lisa was in charge of reading out
the recipe steps and she also helped
David B. slice potatoes. Lorenzo minced
garlic and poured the chickpeas into
our bubbling stew. Roseline chopped
parsley and carrots while Patty took on the teary challenge of
chopping onions. Everyone helped put together a yummy side
salad and we were good to go. This dish was a big hit!
Thanks, Everyone!
Vocabulary Word: Collage
“A piece of art made by gluing various
different materials such as photos, pieces
of paper, or fabric onto a backing”.
NEWS FROM CITRUS HEIGHTS
~with Foreign Correspondent Ken U.
Ken told us that he recently got a new job. He
will be working Monday nights at his local Bel-Air
Market. The other employees have been very
welcoming. He will also be involved in some
volunteer work with animals at Pet Smart. In church
news, Ken told us that the pastor’s daughter,
Renee, took his family
out to lunch at
Brookfields Restaurant.
The food was great! On
Christmas Eve, Ken’s
church group did a
holiday show at the
Sacramento Memorial
Auditorium. In the spirit
of the season, Ken also reported that he gave a
donation to the nice Salvation Army Bell Ringer at
his local discount store. Happy Holidays, everyone!
