He was eased from his wide barrier (10) and settled last in the 11-horse field. He was giving the leader about eight lengths as he fanned wide coming to the home turn. He put in a quick run, going to third at the 300m and gradually drew clear, despite racing greenly to win by a length. It was a smart effort. He then survived a protest from the runner up for interference in the straight. Karigara travelled nicely in fifth place, one off the rails.
