MINUTES OF THE MEMBERSHIP MEETING JANUARY 14, 2014
Call To Order: President Richard Fox called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm, welcoming the 45
members present. Our newest member, Kurt Taube, was introduced and welcomed by the club.
Richard also introduced the 2014 Club officers.
Minutes: The December, 2013 meeting minutes, as printed in the newsletter and as posted on the
website, were approved without additions or corrections.
Membership Status: As of December 31, 2013 the club had 99 members: 89 Full and 10 Associate.
Financial Report: Treasurer Greg Stanley reported that at the end of 2013 the club had 89 fully
paid members, and that both the 50/50 charity fund and the overall club’s financial status are sound.
Greg also noted that as of today over 50 members have paid their 2014 club dues. Dues are $25.00 if
paid by March 1st,$ 30.00 if paid later. Dues may be paid by bringing a check to the next meeting, or
by mailing it to: Greg Stanley, 2015 Woodwind Drive, Leland NC 28451. Greg notes that as of
2014, Associate Members will not be listed on the Treasurer’s report, a subject that can be discussed
further at a future membership meeting.
National Corvette Museum: Museum Ambassador Don Paulsen reported on the Club’s progress
towards meeting the $15,000.00 goal to purchase one acre at the Museum’s Motorsports Park. At
present, $3,300.00 has been collected and $1,750.00 has been pledged. Museum “Lifers” John and
Carol Fort are currently in Arizona working at and enjoying the Barrett-Jackson Auction. Don noted
that the new 2015 ZO6 and the C7.R GT LeMans race car will be presented at the Museum’s April
Bash; see Don or the NCM website for information.
New Business: Richard Fox discussed a meeting of the Board following the Jan. 4 th Cars & Coffee,
which resulted in a comprehensive schedule of Club events for the entire upcoming calendar year.
Many of these are already in the Club newsletter’s calendar section, and more will surely follow as
planning falls into place. Some highlights of Richard’s presentation were:
Airborne/Special Ops Museum in Fayetteville, Saturday January 25: Museum admission is free;
there is a $5.00 fee to ride in a motion simulator; exhibits include a display of wreckage from the
“Black Hawk Down” mission in Somalia in 1993. A lunch afterwards is planned for Cheddar’s
Café, and mall shopping is very close nearby.
Lake Waccamaw Boy’s and Girl’s Home will be combined with a Charity Poker Run, Saturday
April 5: The poker run is being organized by Chuck Josephson and Greg Stanley, with proceeds to
benefit Lower Cape Fear Hospice (Brunswick Co.), Good Shepherd, and Canines for Service (both in
Wilmington).
Charlotte Motor Speedway, Saturday March 15: This event is now on hold due to the Speedway’s
insurance requirements. Richard is working to iron things out with them. An alternative track event
may be a return to Rockingham Motor Speedway on Sunday March 16. Finalizing this event is
also still pending but Richard thinks it looks good.
2nd Annual Club Picnic at Moore’s Creek Battleground: Saturday May 17. Vice-President Tony
Caracciolo asked about getting a collective photo of all Club cars sometime after the membership is
settled in March, and it was suggested that the gathering at Moore’s Creek might be a convenient, as
well as picturesque venue.
Food, Fun and Fireworks at the Fox’s, Thursday July 3. A blast, a blast, and a BIG BLAST!
6th Annual CFC Club Show, Saturday September 20 (Meet and Greet) and Sunday September 21
(Club Show). So many details yet to be worked out….But, Car Show Co-Chairperson Ellen Boyd
has always recognized the need to get a jump on things early, and she brought up the need for the
Club to establish our interest in continuing the sponsorship by Jeff Gordon Chevrolet of the show’s
charitable contribution to AARP and the Food Bank of Eastern N.C. Ellen made a motion to
continue this partnership, and it was passed without opposition.
Darlington Track Event: Probably November this year, date TBD. Richard brought up the
possibility of including other Corvette clubs, and other car clubs as well. Tony suggested a possible
use of the event as a fund-raiser for our involvement in the One Acre Club at NCM.
Some other promising, but still tentative, events:
Tony is working on a club trip to Coastal Plains Dragway in Jacksonville.
Coastal Corvettes is organizing a trip to Rick Osbourne’s Restoration facility in Ash, N.C.,
currently scheduled for Saturday February 15.
Hendrick Motorsports in Charlotte, Saturday March 15. The date is pending, as is the possibility
of visiting Hendrick’s private Heritage Collection, in addition to the museum.
Bobby Smith is working on two events: 1) Tentatively planned for Saturday May 3, a visit to
Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro. Bobby sees this as a charity-based visit, with the children of
base personnel chaperoned by their parents to see the Corvettes up-close, followed by a lunch
provided by the base for us. We may pay some amount for the meal, to be a donation to support base
activities for the kids. Bobby plans to get an e-mail out to the members in the near future providing
more details. And 2) The 2nd Annual CFC Road Rally, in November.
Other New Business: Membership Chairman Dave Flinchbaugh is working to increase the
membership’s participation in the RIDE section of our website, and will be contacting us regarding
providing names and photos for the site. Send your photos to Webmaster John Talatinian at

John Talatinian discussed another concern about the club’s website, namely that it is handled by an
outside vendor that has not always been professional enough; for example, the site goes down
periodically. John asked about a club allocation of funds to get a new vendor that would be more
dedicated to working closely with us, and noted that our cost might be as little as $10.-$12.00 per
month. A motion was made about this request, and it passed without opposition. It should be
mentioned that, despite the problems, in the recent past our club’s website was honored with NCM’s
Club Website Of The Year—surely a tribute to the quality of John’s work!
Tony reported that Best Uniforms has nearly finished its design of the club-logo jacket. He also told
us about the dyno-tune that his C5 recently received at National Speed, and of their ability to
computer-adjust the engine for optimized running on regular gas.
Blair Poteate cautioned about running gas containing ethanol in our cars, and of the need to be
careful which gas station(s) you use.
Finally, Frank Bacchi contributed a coupon for an alignment, which was won by Gordon Boyd in a
split 50/50 drawing—the green went to Len Cuthbertson.
Next Membership meeting at 6:30pm on Tuesday February 11th in the Jeff Gordon Used Car
Building. The meeting was adjourned by Richard Fox at 7:45pm, following which a group convened
at Shucker’s restaurant for a social gathering and dinner.

Ever wonder why a Top Fuel dragster gets a rebuilt engine after each run?
Stay with this - even if you aren't a 'car nut', this is stunning.
* One Top Fuel dragster outfitted with a 500 cubic-inch replica Dodge (actually Keith Black, etc) Hemi engine makes
more horsepower (8,000 HP) than the first 4 rows of cars at NASCAR's Daytona 500.
* Under full throttle, a dragster engine will consume 11.2 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded Boeing
747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate but with 25% less energy being produced.
* A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to merely drive the dragster's supercharger.
* With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a
near-solid form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lockup at full throttle.
* At the stoichiometric 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture for nitro methane the flame front temperature measures 7050 degrees
F.
* Nitro methane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen,
dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases.
* Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. Which is typically the output of a small electric arc welder in
each cylinder.
* Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After 1/2 way thru the run, the engine is 'dieseling' from
compression and the glow of the exhaust valves at 1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the
fuel flow.
* If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes
with enough force to blow the cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half !!
* Dragsters reach over 300 MPH +... before you have completed reading this sentence.
* In order to exceed 300 MPH in 4.5 seconds, a dragster must accelerate an average of over 4 G's. In order to reach
200 MPH well before reaching half-track, at launch the acceleration approaches 8 G's.
* Top Fuel engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light!
* Including the burnout, the engine must only survive 900 revolutions under load.
* The redline is actually quite high at 9500 RPM.
* THE BOTTOM LINE: Assuming all the equipment is paid for, the pit crew is working for free, & NOTHING BLOWS
UP, each run will cost an estimated $1,000 per second.
0 to 100 MPH in .8 seconds (the first 60 feet of the run)
0 to 200 MPH in 2.2 seconds (the first 350 feet of the run)
6 g-forces at the starting line (nothing accelerates faster on land)
6 negative g-forces upon deployment of twin 'chutes at 300 MPH
An NHRA Top Fuel Dragster accelerates quicker than any other land vehicle on earth . . quicker than a jet fighter
plane . . . quicker than the space shuttle....or snapping your fingers !!
The current Top Fuel dragster elapsed time record is 4.420 seconds for the quarter-mile (2004, Doug Kalitta).
The top speed record is 337.58 MPH as measured over the last 66' of the run (2005, Tony Schumacher).
Let's now put this all into perspective:
Imagine this...........
 You are driving a new $140,000 Lingenfelter twin-turbo powered Corvette Z-06.
 Over a mile up the road, a Top Fuel dragster is staged & ready to 'launch' down a quarter-mile strip as you pass.
 You have the advantage of a flying start.
 You run the 'Vette hard, on up through the gears and blast across the starting line & pass the dragster at an
honest 200 MPH....
 The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that exact moment.
 The dragster departs & starts after you.
 You keep your foot buried hard to the floor, and suddenly you hear an incredibly brutally screaming whine that
pummels your eardrums & within a mere 3 seconds the dragster effortlessly catches & passes you.
 He beats you to the finish line, a quarter-mile away from where you just passed him.

Think about it from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 MPH.....and it not only caught, but
nearly blasted you off the planet when he passed you within a mere 1320 foot long race !!!!
That, my friends.....is acceleration.

After our meeting where everyone gave their event ideas and favorites. It sounds
as if many members are open to an overnight trip. This event takes some advance
planning and we need to gage
interest and your financial commitment to the plan.
CFC does Charlotte

We would leave from Wilmington on Saturday March 15
in the morning and drive the
200 miles about 3 hrs. 20 minutes to Charlotte.
After lunch we would visit the Hendrick Motor sports museum
and team store in Concord. Some may also visit the
Nascar Hall of Fame as time permits.
On Sunday March 16 from 10 AM to noon we would head over to
Charlotte Motor Speedway.
We would do 10 laps behind a pace car, pit, switch drivers
if desired then do an additional 5 laps.
After the laps we would get a group picture on the track and an individual shot
in the "Winners" circle.
No helmets required, Convertibles W/tops down are allowed,
ambulance and paramedics provided.
This is an opportunity to drive your Corvette or sports car
on a mile and a half Superspeedway.
For those that have not attended one of our track events it is a
BLAST.
The cost will be about $125. per car.
Just clarify, the $125. is for the track only. Food, lodging, Fuel and anything else is extra.
Please let Richard Know as soon as you can but no later than the January meeting
if you are willing to make a commitment to the event.

Lake Waccamaw Charity Poker Run
Saturday April 5th 2014
We will be visiting four organizations during our Poker Run.
The first will be The Lake Waccamaw Boys and Girls Home.
The club will be gathering donations to purchase items to fill the
50 gift bags that we will be distributing to the children.
We still will need old car magazines, candy and anything you would
normally find in an Easter Basket.
The other three locations have prepared a list of items that they need for their
day to day operation. Please collect some of these items as you find them and
plan on delivering them during our Charity Poker Run. If you can't make the
event bring your items to one of our meetings and we will deliver them for you.
you may want to partner with someone to purchase some of the more
expensive items. Please help make this event a huge success.

7th Annual “Vettes Doin Charleston”
Please join us on April 12th in beautiful historic Charleston, SC for our 7th Annual ALL CORVETTE SHOW
sponsored by the Coastal Carolina Corvette Club. What a beautiful time to visit Charleston as our town will
be in full bloom and the gardens, plantations and weather will be amazing! I am sure that many of the
clubs are making plans for the 2014 show season and I want to make sure that Charleston, SC is on your
list.
We will have Nine Classes including all generations and one just for the new C7’s. We will be offering
Peoples Choice Judging as well as Scored Judging this year. To enter the Scored Judging there will an
additional fee of $5.00 and you can enter both portions of the show. There will be show pins, more than
Forty plaques plus trophies for Best of Show, Best Engine, Best Interior, Best Paint, along with door
prizes. In addition there will be vendors, National Corvette Museum items for sale, and entertainment.
THIS YEAR’S SHOW IS BEING HELD AT THE SEARS AUTO CENTER LOCATED AT THE CITADEL
MALL 2070 SAM RITTENBERG BLVD. IN CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA 29407JUST DOWN I526 FROM THE HOST HOTEL.

Coming Soon our pre-registration can be done at our website http://www.4cccc.org . You can pay by PayPal
or mail in your registration form with a check. Pre-registration is $25.00 add additional $5.00 if you are
doing the Scored Judged show and pre-registration will end on March 23rd. After March 23rd the
registration fee will be $30. Show t-shirts will be available as a pre-order only and the cost is $15 and
they will not be sold at the show. Proceeds from the show will benefit the National Corvette Museum.
Trailered Corvettes must be off-loaded outside of the show area and must be driven through the
registration station onto the show lot. Trailer parking will be offered near the show area. Due to parking
limitations we will not be able to honor requests for clubs to park together. We apologize in advance for
any inconvenience.
For all pre-registrants there will be a Meet and Greet Affair on Friday night April 11th at our host hotel with
complementary cookout & soft drinks. The Host Hotel and Show Headquarters is the Holiday Inn

Chevrolet Unveils 2015 Corvette Z06
Today at the NAIAS in Detroit, Chevrolet unveiled the 2015
Corvette Z06 - touted as the most capable ever featuring a
race-proven design, advanced technologies and world-class
performance. The car features a track-focused Z07
performance package with lap times faster than the 2013
ZR1. This is the first Z06 to offer a supercharged engine,
removable roof panel and has a paddle-shift automatic
transmission available.

New Corvette C7.R shares Tech with new Z06
In conjunction with the unveiling of the 2015 Corvette Z06,
Chevrolet also unveiled the new C7.R race car. The car was
co-developed with the Z06, and represents the closest link in
modern times between Corvettes built for racing and the
road. The two cars share unprecedented levels of
engineering and components including chassis architecture,
engine technologies and aerodynamic strategies.
The C7.R will make it's competition debut on January 25 at

Bash April 24-26.
Sure, it was neat sitting at your computer, watching the 2015
Z06 reveal online, but what about getting to see it in person,
and hear from the team that made it happen? Our Bash will
give you that opportunity, and you can even ask questions,
walk around the car and so much more. The Chevrolet team
will also give an update as to how the Stingray is doing and
what's coming down the pipe.
Our Bash event also has some old favorites and some new fun - including golfing with GM VIPs,
road tours, a crash course on geocaching, seminar and book signing by former GM Corvette Plant
Manager Wil Cooksey, poker run, celebrity choice car show, bingo auctions and so much more.
