Celebrating the Old and the New

It’s a very exciting time for Providence
— work is being done on our first
community in Indiana, and residents are
starting to move into Victorian Village
Health & Wellness Center, the first place
in Illinois to offer Small House style
skilled nursing care.
We’ve been working on these projects
for a long time, and it is gratifying to see
progress being made and people being
served in new ways, in new locations.
The progress makes this a great time to
look ahead, to celebrate new services
and new growth, and to praise God for
the work he’s doing through us. But
while we look ahead, we must
also give thanks for all that God
has done and is doing in the
communities that we’ve been
serving for decades.
God has given us, and we keep working
to improve each of the communities
we operate.
From a new dining room at Saratoga
Grove and new carpet at Royal Park Place
to the breaking of ground in St. John and
the innovative style of care at Victorian
Village Health and Wellness Center, every
step we take and every life we touch is
only by God’s grace. He has been our
guide in the past, He is our strength
today, and we will continue to rely on
Him in our future.

into our second century of

Work has begun on Park Place of St. John, Providence's first community in Indiana.

two-bedroom apartments will be
available in five different floor
plans, with options for one or two
bathrooms, a patio, balcony, and
enclosed garages. Laundry facilities
will be included in each unit.
Community space in the building
will be plentiful, and Park Place of
St. John will also be connected with
the surrounding community.

dining area or smaller, café-style

Place’s campus, and will serve
people with skilled nursing,
memory care, and rehabilitation
needs. Two buildings will be
home to 10 long-term residents,
and a larger house will serve 30
rehabilitation clients.

Saratoga Grove — Dining Room Remodel
The Saratoga Grove dining room has been completely remodeled.

Grove is serving some very
happy residents.
Recent renovations at the
community centered on the
completely redesigned, reinstalled,
and repositioned buffet line.
Saratoga Grove staff sought
input from residents — whose
recommendations resulted in the
new and highly anticipated panini
grill — before custom-building
the line with a team of architects
and designers. It was expanded to
allow for a wider variety of food
options, and the serving trays
were downsized to keep fresh food
available. The layout of the room
was also changed to provide for
more seating and more space
for entertainers.
Residents can still walk through the
buffet line or choose to be served
at their table, but now they’ll have
new options to choose from – not
only panini sandwiches, but also
different pastas, made-to-order
omelets, and waffles. And now,
there’s an ice cream freezer built
right in to the buffet.

RENOVATIONS
Throughout Providence
Enhancing the lives of our residents
sometimes comes in the form of fresh
carpet, a new chair, or a renovated
doctor’s office. Below are some updates
that Providence communities have recently
made or are planning to make, in order
to make their residents’ homes a little
brighter, to make their services more
effective, or just to add a little more style.
PROVIDENCE HEALTHCARE & REHAB
CENTER OF DOWNERS GROVE
renovated the doctors’ chart room
and is going to be renovating common
areas as well. The new furniture in the
chart room is modern and professional,
purchased based on the physicians’
input on what helps them be efficient
care providers. The room was organized
around a new workstation, used for
keeping electronic medical records.
PHRC-DG is also getting a new look
in the Fireside and Lincoln Lounges —
they will have all new carpet, furniture,
lighting, and window treatments. In the
Fireside Lounge, updates will also be
made to the fireplace itself. Decorated
in earth tones, the lounges are to have
a warm and inviting environment. “We
can’t underestimate the impact of a
pleasant environment,” Administrator
Jackie Terpstra said. “A calm, clean,
and warm environment helps residents
and their families feel at home, and
helps patients in their healing process,
physically and psychologically.”
New carpet and furniture will enhance
the décor at ROYAL PARK PLACE.
The new carpet will cover the main
entrance, lobby, corridor, and café,
while the main lobby will be getting new
sofas, lounge chairs, and accent tables.
The updates are expected to
be completed mid-March. “It’s an
update that allows residents to remain
proud of their home,” Administrator
Jeff Zylstra said.
VILLAGE WOODS has been making
updates throughout the building.
They remodeled 36 bathrooms in 2014,
installing new walk-in style showers
and replacing the flooring. The Senior
Day Club is enjoying the fruits of a
summer remodel, which cleared a large
room that was being used for storage
and transformed it with comfortable
couches, nice chairs and a big table
now used for snacks, games and crafts.
A new quiet room is also available
for Day Club members to use. New
lobby furniture — couches, chairs and
tables — was delivered at the end
of January; the fabric and rich, dark
wood updated the lobby look. “The
residents’ comments about the new
furniture have been positive, and it’s a
good first impression for families and
those who come for a tour,” Community
Manager Rick Molenhouse said. But
he says the renovations are not yet
complete: the updated furniture is part
of a bigger plan that includes taking
down wallpaper, painting the walls, and
getting new window treatments as well.

unexpectedly by their actions.
Just as God has planned it, there
is a richness that comes from

responding and learning from each
other. We have been commanded
to honor our parents, and in doing
so we ourselves secure a blessing
from God (the only command with
