Is the secret to getting rich
winning the lottery?
No! Compound Interest and
patience are.
Compound interest is the interest
you earn on the
interest you earned.
Here’s a rule you should know it
you’re trying to
figure our how your money will
grow; it’s called
the Rule of 72. It’s a simple way
to determine how
long it will take for your
investment to double.
The number 72 divided by the
return on your investment
will give you the number of years
it’ll take for your money
to double in value.
So, if you’re getting 4.5% return
on your money…now don’t
start laughing just yet…Servus
Credit Union common shares paid
that last year!
You would double your money in
just 16 short years. The higher
the return the faster your money
doubles.
Remember to tax shelter your
interest – TFSA &/or RRSP!
The Gift
A short story by
Grant West
Several years ago I was employed as
a Sales Consultant for a truck
company. This involved a lot of
traveling and meetings and to assist
my work I was given a brand new lap
top computer. The computer was
very helpful with all aspects of my
duties and would also allow me to
build new trucks by spec and sent
directly to the factory for new orders.
So it would seem the lap top was of
great importance. One particular day
I was off to see a customer and
would not need the computer for that
occasion. I told my son I would leave
it at home and he asked if he could
check it out. Since he had never used
a laptop before and was far more
computer literate than I, I saw no
harm in it and told him to go ahead
and have fun.
My meeting was close to home and
short so it didn’t take long and I was
on my way home when my cell phone
rang. It was my son. When he
started speaking it took a second for
me to realize he was totally stressed
out. He was half crying, half sobbing
and in he was in the most distress I’d
ever heard in my life. That’s when I
feared the worst. My stomach rolling
I said, “your going to have to spit it
out son”, as I pulled over to the
shoulder of the highway.
Through sobs, stuttering and a few
deep breaths he started to explain,
while I subconsciously started
praying for my loved ones.
“I was using your computer and I
dropped a huge glass of juice on the
screen and broke it. What am I going
to do? You’ll get fired” and on and on
he went.
Now I had never experienced anyone
this upset and afraid, but I was
certainly relieved. Though his stress
was stressing me to the limits, and I
realized I had to calm him down
immediately. I said to him,”You have
to calm down and listen to me. There
isn’t enough computers in the world
that could mean as much to me as
you do. It’s just a silly old computer.
You are my son, my life and if I can’t
fix that computer I’ll buy a new one.
As far as work is concerned, if they
fire me for that they’re not worth
working for.
And after more reassurance I finally
got him calmed down at the end of
the conversation he said still half
crying , from the bottom of his heart,
slowly, “I love you dad”.
And then it hit me it was the way he
said it. The vocal tone, the emotion
and the pure truth. It’s a gift from
God, and through the words and
teachings of Jesus there was ability

to live and understand the gift of
God. That unconditional love we
can have, the wisdom to forgive,
and the patience to help in a
moment of fear filled stress.
I will probably never again be
enlightened and awakened over a
broken computer.
Parts of this story are true. Well
most of it. Ok, all of it.

Did you Know????
Wanted
There are a number of ways to save water, and
they all start with you. Here are 7 ways……
#1
When washing dishes by hand, don’t let
the water run while rinsing. Fill one sink with
wash water and the other with rinse water.
#2
Adjust sprinklers so only your lawn is
watered and not the house, sidewalk or street.
#3
We’re more likely to notice leaks
indoors, but don’t forget to check outdoor
faucets, sprinklers and hoses for leaks.
Shorten your shower by a minute or
#4
two and you’ll save up to 150 gallons per
month!
#5
Put food coloring in your toilet tank, if it
seeps into the toilet bowl without flushing, you
have a leak. Fixing the leak can save you up to
1000 gallons a month!
Turning off the water while your brush
#6
your teeth could save you 25 gallons a month.
And the 7th way to save water and dollars!
#7
Catch water in an empty tuna can to
measure sprinkler output. One inch of water on one
square foot of grass equals two-thirds of a gallon of
water.

17 foot or larger deep freeze in
working condition.
Doesn’t have to be pretty.
