Roadtrip to IL
PSU 34 – Northwestern 29
Finally, a road win for our traveling group! It was the first one since the Miami game in 1999. There
were 52 Nittany Lion fans who traveled in two groups from Harrisburg to Chicago, convened at the
awesome Wyndham Hotel in downtown Chicago, spent Friday through Sunday in the Windy City - at
Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs, enjoying the Chicago Jazz Clubs and Pubs, visiting Navy Pier and
local Museums, at Soldier Field to watch the Bears and Bengals, shopping along the Magnificent Mile,
not to mention watching the Lions in a cat fight with the other Cats from Northwestern!
Most of the group left the game with no voices as they cheered till the end. After spending 1-1/4 hours
circling O’Hare on the ground, we arrived back in Harrisburg Sunday evening shortly before 10:00
PM. Many of us already can’t wait for next year’s trip to Minnesota for the game, and shopping at the
Mall of America. There will be a waiting list for this trip, so register early! Look for details in an
upcoming issue of the Nittany Lines Chapter newsletter.

NITTANY LION FANS TO 'RALLY IN THE VALLEY' ON OCT. 7
The Blue & White Society and Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics are teaming up to host the fourth annual "Rally in the
Valley" football pep rally at 8:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7 in Rec Hall. Head football coach Joe Paterno, the Penn State football
team, the Penn State cheerleaders, Lionettes dance team, the Blue Band, and the Nittany Lion mascot will all participate in
the pep rally and help ready students, alumni and friends for the next day's football game, one of the biggest contests of the
season, a sold-out Big Ten match-up against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
Penn State and Alabama, two of nation's most storied programs, will renew their football series in 2010-11.
The teams are scheduled to meet Sept. 11, 2010, in Alabama and Sept. 10, 2011, in Beaver Stadium. Penn State and
Alabama last met in 1990, completing a 10-year series. The Crimson Tide leads the series, 8-5, with the first three meetings
coming in bowl games. The Lions beat the Tide in the 1959 Liberty Bowl (7-0), and Alabama won match-ups in the 1975
(13-6) and '79 (14-7) Sugar Bowls, with the latter game a dramatic match-up for the National Championship. As was the
case with the trio of post-season meetings, most of the 10 regular season games from 1981-90 were close, with six of the
contests decided by 10 points or less. Penn State won the last meeting, 9-0, in 1990 in Tuscaloosa.
Two additional Nittany Lion non-conference opponents coming up: Notre Dame in 2006-07 and Syracuse in 2008-09.
