This financial assistance for scholarships is provided by York Hospital. Kittery Recreation welcomes all Kittery residents to participate in our programs, leagues and activities. Due to the generous donation from York Hospital, Kittery Recreation may be able to provide reduced fees to those who qualify. Applications should be completed prior to the start of the program; however scholarship fund availability and program registrations cannot be guaranteed. Upon review by the Recreation Director, qualified participants may receive assistance with program fees. All requests will remain confidential. Application forms are available at the Recreation office. Registration & Policies REGISTRATION To register for an activity or event, please visit the reception desk at the Community Center or call us at 207-439-3800. We accept payment in cash, checks or credit cards. You may also register online at www.kitterycommunitycenter.org and use your credit/debit card at this site. Please note, that all credit/debit card transactions on this site will be charged an additional 3% on top of the activity fee. Once a year, participants must complete a Medical/Emergency form and sign a medical release/waiver. These forms will be kept on file and participants must notify us with any revisions/changes as they happen. Each program session is considered a new class. All individuals must register for all sessions they wish to participate in. Please remember that you are not automatically registered into additional sessions until your registration is complete, including payments. How to watch a good program die Nothing kills a recreation program faster than those who wait until the last minute to register. There is a point when a program must be cancelled if there is insufficient registration. All programs require a level of scheduling, staffing and purchasing of equipment/supplies. So please register early! 3 POLICIES Refund Policy If Kittery Recreation cancels a program, the participant will receive a 100% refund (or credit your account if preferred) Withdrawals that are three working days prior to the start of the program will receive a full refund after a $20 processing fee is charged. If you opt for an in-house credit to your account, the $20 processing fee will be waived. For less than three working days prior to the start of the program, a 50% credit will be applied to your in-house account. On trips, there is a no refund policy unless we can find a replacement. If a replacement is found, you will receive a full refund minus the $20 processing fee. Photo Policy By registering for a class or activity, you give us permission to take and publish photos of your participation, along with photo identification. Pictures may be used in the brochure, papers, or displayed at the Community Center. To Err Is Human—Occasionally there may be an error in days, times, registration requirements or fees in our program booklet. When such errors do occur, the KCC will do everything possible to correct the situation promptly. We thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise. Independent Film Series at KCC—”Films Rated Excellent!” Movies Start at 6:00 PM Movies you should not miss but probably did! Monday, February 9—Aspen Extreme Monday, March 2—AALTRA Monday, April 6—Carol’s Journey Monday, May 18—Anytown, USA Case Closed on the 1873 Smuttynose Ax Murders By J. Dennis Robinson April 29, 2015 at 7:00 PM FREE! FREE! Seacoast historian J. Dennis Robinson offers the final word on the cold-blooded murder of two innocent Norwegian women at the Isles of Shoals on March 6, 1873. The killer, a Prussian fisherman down on his luck, was quickly captured, convicted in a widely publicized trial, and hanged in an unforgettable gallows spectacle. But the handsome killer managed to convince a circle of admirers of his innocence. A fictionalized bestselling novel and a Hollywood film (Weight of Water) have further clouded the truth. Years in the making, Robinson's definitive "whydunnit" MYSTERY ON THE ISLES OF SHOALS, fleshes out the facts surrounding this tragic robbery gone wrong. Judson Hale, editor of Yankee Magazine, calls Robinson's new book "a truly superb piece of work." Replacing fiction, hoax, and myth with facts, the author will present a one-hour illustrated lecture and sign copies of his book. A steward of Smuttynose Island, Robinson is the author of 12 books including hardcover histories of Strawbery Banke Museum and Wentworth by the Sea hotel. He writes t he biweekly "History Matters" column for the Portsmouth Herald and is the owner of the popular website SeacoastNH.com. Check our website often as new events are always being added—www.kitterycommunitycenter.org MORGAN GALLERY The Morgan Gallery is made possible through a generous donation. The gallery space is prominently located by the STAR THEATRE and provides a lovely venue for showcasing works by visual artists. The KCC Arts and Culture Committee is responsible for curating the programming and schedules an ongoing series of art exhibits to showcase visual artists. Professional artists are encouraged to submit up to eight jpeg images, artist statement and resume to the Arts & Culture Committee. Please contact the KCC for further details. All works will be reviewed and juried by an Ad-hoc subcommittee of the Arts and Culture Committee. Applications are subject to approval by the Arts and Cultural Committee. 6 Pre-School Eyes of the World Discovery Center A Nature Based Preschool Eyes of the World Discovery Center is licensed by the State of Maine and provides our community with an enriching educational experience for children ages 2-5. Our curriculum emphasizes Early Literacy & Math Skills, Cognitive & Sensory Development and activities to strengthen Fine & Gross Motor Skills. Our Forest Classroom Our Indoor Classroom Here at Eyes of the World Discovery Center we offer a unique environment for the children to learn and play. Do you remember as a child? These various activities naturally strengthen Fine and Gross motor skills. Building forts Digging holes to “China” Making mud pies Daydreaming in a special hiding place These activities are all nature play: unstructured childhood play in the outdoors. Nature play isn’t scheduled, planned or led by adults. Instead, it’s open-ended, free time exploration and recreation. For many of us, this sort of nature play virtually defined our childhoods.
