It’s finally here…it’s new season time! We are very excited to bring you details of our brand new Autumn Winter 2015 yarns and design collections this month, including news of our 58th Knitting & Crochet Magazine (how time flies!). We have lots of new things in store for autumn, so we’d be really interested to hear your thoughts via our Facebook, Twitter and Ravelry pages. We also look back on two recent events we were involved in; the Kaffe Fassett 50 Years in Textiles event in Hertfordshire and the TNNA exhibition in Ohio. Finally, we look at the rise in popularity of crochet and ask you the age-old question – knitting or crochet? We hope you enjoy your new issue. And it’s no longer just about granny squares – from homeware to sophisticated garment designs, crochet can be adapted for use in all situations. Here at the mill, we held a Crochet Fortnight, which celebrated everything crochet with exclusive inspiration boards, designer quotes and a focus on the database of free crochet patterns we have available to Row@n members on our website. Visit the news area to read all about it, or, if you feel particularly strongly about the subject, why not visit our Facebook page and enter the poll to tell us whether you prefer knitting or crochet? July 2015 - 5 New Season Rowan Knitting & Crochet Magazine 58 Winter 2015 is all about eye catching knitwear surfacing as interesting pieces using the best of texture, colour and pattern techniques. Key yarns boast brushed finishes and take the form of wools, mohairs and furs, creating exquisitely soft, tactile fabrics. These design trends are perfectly showcased in Rowan Knitting & Crochet Magazine 58’s three iconic design stories; Frost, Tranquil and Essentials. Frost Icy landscapes and frost bitten foliage gives the inspiration behind this magical collection of rustic, textured knits. Shapes are simple and unstructured, with loose fitting cardigans and coats resulting in an on trend, layered look. Tranquil Timeless colourwork dominates this classical and elegant collection. Soft flecked, tweed or graduated yarns give a soft, muted look throughout, amongst a warm, autumnal colour palette. Nippy by Amy Herzog using Cocoon 6 - July 2015 Essentials Relaxed fit sweaters and tunics are the essential shape of the season, and this collection showcases the key silhouettes perfectly. The aim was to pay homage to an aweinspiring 50 years in textiles from crafting icon Kaffe Fassett, and what better place to do so than the home of the official Kaffe rose plant, no less. The day began with a prestigious press launch reception, and was followed by a popular afternoon event, open to the general public. This included an inspirational talk from the great man himself and a delightful afternoon tea, situated in the middle of the pretty floral surroundings. As luck would have it, we were blessed with warm spring sunshine, which, along with accentuating the beauty of the exquisite gardens, served to make the event even more enjoyable. As part of his inspirational talk, Kaffe reflected upon highlights of his remarkable career, dotted with humorous tales of how his life had been shaped into the admirable career we see today. Kaffe also talked of his obsession with colour, and how everything he sees around him is translated into creative ideas for print and knit. From everyone at Rowan, congratulations again to Kaffe on a fabulous fifity years – and here’s to many more!
