Vizcaya Village
V IZ C A YA VILLA GE
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, built between 1913 and 1916 included a group of service outbuildings designed to resemble an Italian farm village. Service buildings included a Garage, Dairy Building,
Mule Stable, Chicken Coop, Blacksmith Shop, East and West Gate Lodges and Staff Residence. In
2000, RJHA was commissioned to restore the Garage and Blacksmith Shop buildings of the Farm
Village. The buildings were reroofed, all new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life safety systems
were installed, original floors and windows were restored and the main interior space of the Garage
building was also restored for use as a lecture and exhibition space. RJHA was subsequently selected
to restore the East and West Gate Lodge buildings and of the Café and Shop, destroyed by flooding
during Hurricane Wilma.
