Partnerships
Inver Hills Community College
Simley High School partners with IHCC to offer students in the academic
middle access to college readiness programs and courses. InverPrep
(formerly LADR) allows Simley ninth-graders in the academic middle to
take an Accuplacer test to determine if they qualify for the program. After
students complete a tenth-grade developmental course, they take college
level courses that are concurrently taught at Simley in eleventh- and twelthgrade. Upon completion of the program, students will receive transcripted
credit that will be accepted by all MNSCU colleges and universities.
80%
In the past 6 years, over
80-percent of Simley graduates
attend college within the first 2
years after high school graduation.
National Urban Alliance
The district has also entered into a partnership with the National Urban
Alliance (NUA). It’s a given that students and teachers do not always come
from the same racial or cultural backgrounds. NUA’s focus is on changing
teacher’s perceptions and expectations of underachieving students in a
way that pays particular attention to the cultural dimensions of these
differences.

EMID
Inver Grove Heights Community Schools is a member of the East Metro
Integration District (EMID), a consortium of 10 Saint Paul area school
districts. EMID aims to support and enhance voluntary integration within
the schools.
Students who receive a 3 score or
higher may earn college credit at
many colleges and universities.
Volunteers
Inver Grove Heights Community Schools has a strong network of
volunteers that provide many hours of support to students and staff
throughout the district. Independent School District 199’s Volunteer Corps
aims to help build a positive learning environment for students in which
they can work toward achieving their full potential.
Simley High School offers
19 Advanced Placement (AP)
courses - the most in the area.
During the last six years, Simley
students have saved more than $2.2
million dollars in college tuition as
a direct result of their AP scores.
Atheneum Gifted
Magnet Program
The Atheneum program started
in Inver Grove Heights in 2002. It
serves students in grades 2-5.
AVID
The AVID program at Inver Grove Heights Middle School and Simley
High School prepares students for college readiness. AVID helps students
strengthen organization, time management and social skills that are key to
success.
Currently 130 students from seventh- through eleventh-grade participate in
the program.
20 AVID students recently completed and donated 25 tie blankets to local
shelters and young children staying at Children’s Hospital in Saint Paul.
Independent School District 199
Students in the Atheneum Magnet
Program have to meet eligibility
criteria determined by a district
identification committee. Students
invited to participate have been
tested and found to be in the
superior range of cognitive ability.
The program’s mission is to
provide a self-contained classroom
option for these students to
enhance the daily academic rigor
that will motivate and challenge
this group of learners.
