General Book Set-Up
Things to Note
• Books may become dirty during transport and need to be cleaned or touched
up with paint. Touch up paint is in Patch Kit bin.
• Decide placement of books and their angles in the gallery before opening.
The books can be open from 90 to 155 degrees depending upon the exhibit
layout. The books are most stable when positioned at 155 degrees.
• Inside each closed book is a ‘sled’ – a surface on wheels on which exhibit
elements and supplies are packed and stacked. Keep this in mind when
moving and opening each book. Each sled is colored-coded to match the book
it fits in.
• The items packed on the sled generally are for that exhibit section but there
may be some items for other sections.
• All bins are labeled on the outside for the exhibit section. An inventory list
per bin is affixed to the inside lid of each bin.
•
Section header signs are on two posts and fit snugly into holes in the top of
each section. There are two sets of square holes to choose from. The set of
square holes in the center of the book for the header sign locks the book into a
155 degree position. The set of holes along one side allows the book angle to
be anywhere from 90 to 155 degrees.
•
CAUTION: Opening books more than 155 degrees can make the books
unstable and may tip.
•
All books have 4 locking wheels. Be sure they are unlocked when moving.
The wheels on the sled are smart wheels and do not lock.
•
When finalizing the layout of the gallery, be sure the back spine of the
Tornado section can be accessed each day to turn on and then shut off
electronic exhibitry.
•
Tools needed- screwdriver #2 square bit, Philips screwdriver, 5/32 and 7/32
Hex keys
•
Please wipe down all books and interactives as needed before shipping out
•

these items.
