Thursdays in July & August
Cruise into summer at the Geneva Chamber car shows on Thursday nights in July and August. This event, run by chamber members, is an organized, but casual opportunity for collectors to gather together and showcase their cars and motorcycles. Get up close to the stunning array of these beautiful machines and hear all of the stories from their owners. Stroll the
grounds of the historic Kane County Courthouse and enjoy downtown Geneva on a summer
evening. Bring your family for something to eat, listen to great music and enjoy the wonderful
community event. Just one more reason why downtown Geneva is the place to be.

At The Royal Wren, our goal is to educate families about new and different choices in the

Geneva School District is once again the recipient of the Association of School Business Officials International’s Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting. This award
results from having met or exceeded the program’s high standards for financial reporting
and accountability. This reflects the work of staff on the District’s Comprehensive Annual
Financial Report for the fiscal year ending in 2015.

Ribbon Cuttings
City of Geneva’s third tier parking deck expansion has earned its second “Project of the
Year” award from the American Public Works Association (APWA), this time from the
Chicago Metro Chapter. After winning the APWA “Project of the Year” award at the Fox
Valley branch level and Chicago Metro Chapter, Geneva’s parking deck project now moves
on to the APWA national competition in Minneapolis this summer.

Marklund’s 2016 Top Hat Ball broke attendance and fundraising records; raising over
$600,000 in net proceeds.
Daily Herald was awarded second place in its category of the American Copy Editors
Society’s 2015 national headline contest.
Each year, AFS-USA honors select schools for their commitment to international education with the Top Global Learning Schools award. Geneva High School was among the first
recipients of this designation in 2014 and remains a Top Global Learning School in 2016.
This designation makes Geneva students eligible to apply for study abroad scholarships

The Geneva History Museum was awarded a Dunham Fund Grant in the amount of
$3,850 for the installation of automated doors for the Museum entrance.
For the second year in a row, Fox River Distilling Company has earned medals for its Herrington Premium Vodka and Geneva’s Preservation Gin at the prestigious San Francisco
World Spirits Competition.
Griffin Williams LLP has moved to 21 N. Fourth St. in Geneva.
Stockholm’s had the pleasure of hosting another benefit to support Max Washington’s
efforts to raise funds for St. Baldrick’s Foundation. This remarkable young man, who is
now 12 years old, has raised roughly $20,000 during his 8 years of helping to end childhood cancer. This year Max raised another $2,790 and shaved his head in the process,

The Herrington Inn & Spa has added Herrington Plaza, a new and outdoor venue located on
the Fox River between the Herrington Inn and Spa and its banquet facility. The property was
purchased from the City of Geneva, and the site has been improved to showcase dramatic
river views for a unique outdoor venue. It is unlike any other event facility in the Fox River
Valley, with its combination of a spectacular outdoor riverfront setting and its expansive capacity to accommodate a 60 by 30-foot tent and serve up to 200 guests.
Geneva High School is looking for an automotive, architecture and personal training site
that might be interested in hosting a student for a fall internship. The main requirement
for students in this class is to complete 65 hours of unpaid internship experience (about 5

Durant House Museum Opens – June 2
Visit the pioneer past when the 1843 Durant House Museum opens its doors for the 2016 season at 1 pm. The house museum highlights how families lived on the Illinois prairie in the 19th
century. The museum regular hours are Sundays 1-4pm (June 5-October 2) and Thursdays
1-4pm (June 2 - August 25). The Durant House Museum is located in LeRoy Oakes Forest

Chase The Music with FoxFire – June 9
It is FoxFire Restaurant’s 3rd Fundraiser and they are in it for the children. Their neighbor School of Rock will be helping with live music and an open mic session on the patio.
They will also have Penrose Brewing Company supplying beer samples from their local

Summer Sunday Tour – June 19 & July 17
Get to know Fermilab with a free, two-hour guided tour at 1 pm that takes you behind the scenes
of America’s particle physics laboratory. Visit our control rooms and see a particle accelerator.

the ages of 10 and 14 need to be accompanied by an adult. Photo ID is required to enter the

EGYPT: Joseph’s Journey From Prison to Palace – June 20-24
St. Marks Church will be doing an outreach. While the kids are having fun at this event, moms
and dads can enjoy a little Swedish Days alone time. The program runs from 9 am-12 pm. Sign

be closing due to lack of state funding.
To all my business clients, it has been a pleasure serving you over the past ten years. I have vicariously lived

enjoyed working with each of you, and wish you all

To all of my stakeholders, especially SBDC host and
grant match funder, Waubonsee Community College,
thank you for supporting the program, spreading the
word, and encouraging so many small business owners and entrepreneurs to take advantage of assistance
from the SBDC. The program could not have had the

Working Together!
On a unique night when both teams were
scheduled to play in April, the Chicago Steel
Hockey Team opened its doors to fans of the
neighboring Kane County Cougars baseball
team when inclement weather caused the
Cougars to cancel their game. Fans who
showed a ticket to the Cougars game received free entry to the Chicago Steel’s game
that night.
“It’s the neighborly thing to do,” said Steel
President Dan Lehv. “When you see your
neighbors and their guests locked out in the
cold, you invite them inside. That’s what we’re
doing tonight. We should warn them that it’s
still going to be cold - we are a hockey team,
after all.”
Shakespeare in the Park – July 16
Grab your portable chairs and picnic baskets and join us in beautiful Island Park for
the annual Shakespeare in the Park play. The Midsummer Theater Troupe brings the
laughs, and plays are shortened to 90 minutes, making this an outing that’s fun (and
