THE DRESSER NEWS www.harleydressers.com Volume 36, Issue 2 Published Since 1977 What is Round on both ends and has HI in the middle ? June 2012 Check out the picture of Lee Oblinger, Carol Lyons, Carol Oblinger and Ed Lyons. (No doubt you already figured out that they are spelling Ohio.) You meet the nicest people in the Buckeye State, our Ohio Dresser members for sure. The Lyons, Oblingers and Gagnons have been enthusiastically involved with planning the itinerary for the New Philadelphia OH rally in July. It went something like this in Pikeville, KY at our brainstorming meeting last year…. “Let’s list favorite attractions in eastern Ohio and rate them A, B, C for popularity.” “Oh, there are so many in the area. It will be hard to decide.” Well, some very interesting destinations were selected, something for everyone, with hoards of optional interesting places to see. Check out the websites below. We will be in Amish country, and the other secret about Ohio further south and east of New Philly is the beginning of Appalachia. Beautiful riding roads are here. You will especially enjoy the well marked roads and courteous drivers in Ohio. Our rally itinerary will include the Pro Football Hall of Fame (www.profootballhof.com) in Canton, the Valley Gem Sternwheeler boat ride (www.valleygemsternwheeler.com) on the Ohio River in Marietta with a side trip to see the Big Muskie steam shovel that could scoop the contents of a 12-car garage I am told, a tour of the old Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield (www.ohiostatereformatory.org) where several movies have been filmed followed by a lunch at Hale’s HD, and a shopping ride and tour of Amish country highlighting Lehman’s (Amish) Hardware Store (www.lehmans.com ) and the P. Graham Dunn Showcase in Dalton (www.pgrahamdunn.com) . Nearby Holmes County is very much Amish, with hoards of interesting shops, wineries, crafts, markets and restaurants. There are many Amish restaurants, i.e., the Amish Door Restaurant (www.amishdoor.com), and Hartville If you are a rider and not a shopper or museum looker, go on one of the favorite rides Kitchen www.hartvillekitchen.com). planned by our Ohio members through the Ohio hill country and along the Ohio River. Other optional attractions are the AMA Museum in Pickerington, the Rock & Roll Museum in Cleveland, and the Warther Museum with wood carvings to name a few. We have two rally hotels on the same property that share the parking: the newly renovated Best Western and the new Holiday Inn Express (2 years old). After visiting New Philadelphia last week with Joe and Jan, we are pleased to say we have first rate hotels for you, each with indoor pools and great continental breakfasts. For our campers, Wood’s Tall Timber Lake Campground (www.woodstalltimberlake.com) is pristine and beautiful in a resort setting just 15 minutes. from the rally site. Walmart is close by, and so is Adventure Harley Davidson in Dover who will be providing lunch for us one of the days. We will be right off I-77 for easy access. So there it is, everything we need for a great rally and vacation together. Hope to see you there.
