Slap Off
Bass Contest
You’ve heard of the Crossroads Guitar
Contest, well this is the upright bass
version! The only difference is that this
is not so much a contest as it is a show-
case of bass-slapping talent. On
Sunday afternoon at 5PM on the
Millenium Center’s Main Stage we
will hold the first annual HRW Upright
Bass “Slap-Down”! Hosted by Mike
“Chops” Laconte (bass-slapper extraordinaire for the Blind Pharaohs and
Rock-Ola), the slap-down will draw
attention to the particular techniques
and talents of various players in attendance. The set up is simple: the players sign up to participate and, depending upon how many show, we’ll set
them all up onstage in a row or semicircle, with their basses tuned and
ready. Then the band, led by Chops
and also Johnny Knox (Johnny Knox
& Hi-Test and of the Cogburns) will
begin a vamp and one-by-one the players will each take their turn showcasing
their style within the context of the
song. After all have been heard the
band will begin a different tune and it
starts all over. This is not as much a
cut-throat contest as it is a showcase for
a sometimes often-overlooked but very
fascinating instrument, and the unique
talents of those individuals that choose
to tackle it. There is a prize however,
to be awarded to the most impressive
and consummate player. The voting
will be by audience appreciation.

Get to know the
2007 HRW Bands
The Malamondos
Jem Crossland
& the Hypertonics
In a world... Where erotic genius is punished by
death... Where kinky heiresses and deranged mental-monsters join with clueless love-machines and
drunken puppet-masters to fight the bland and
melancholy status quo... Where justice is dealt
swiftly in a fury of sex, booze and rock 'n' roll...
You will find The Malamondos, an Evil
Organization bent on World Domination and the
Liberation of All Things Sleaztastic. Their world
is one of Lust, Beauty, and Vicious Minds. Max
Diablo drives the hypnotic beat, while the mindboggling bass of El Sucio exerts a rhythm beyond
reason. Van Serpico tears new ones with shimmering licks from his hideous guitars, while Hunny
Goodnight rants, enchants, and wears the pants in
this fearsome foursome.
Jem Crossland & the Hypertonics are a
Rockabilly, Roots Rock 'n Roll and Country &
Western band from Charlotte North Carolina,
blending the best of traditional Americana with a
pop rockability to create a unique sound all their
own. The Hypertonics are: Jem Crossland - Guitar
& Vocals: Jem, although a recent immigrant from
the United Kingdom, has plunged headfirst into
the Southern American experience. Jem enjoys
vintage cars, motoring on his Harley and
NASCAR racing. Jem lives in Mount Holly, NC
with his wife Lauren. John Marlow - Drums:
Hailing from the NASCAR capitol Concord, NC,
John also plays with the punk band DRAT. An
avowed hotrodder, John's rides include a '55
Chevy project car and a kick-ass 2003 Mustang
Cobra. An embalmer by trade, John relaxes by
consistently dominating the pool table.Chipps
Baker - Upright & Electric Bass, Tenor
Saxophone: Chipps has been a fixture on the
Charlotte music scene for over twenty years and is
also a member of the Belmont Playboys. Living in
rural Lucia, NC he enjoys motorcycling with his
wife Sherry.
The Fury 3
have quickly become a well received and reviewed
act. Taking cues from various artist and influences,
The Bottle Babies move seamlessly through
styles-weaving fragments of angst with catchy
bends, hooks, and riffs. Led energetically by the
throat of front man Todd Owens, the band is
founded on rock 'n' roll tradition, built by energy
and driven by the passion to perform. The Bottle
Babies are currently recording a full-length CD at
the infamous Steveland Studios. Engineered by
Steve Baise and The Bottle Babies, the CD will be
distributed by BLACK LUNG and GET HIP
Records. The band's freshman release fills a gut
and balls niche that's indigenous and worthy of
representing their roots. The band manages to nail
each and every song with a high-octane thrust. The
Bottle Babies have captured an aggressive display
of melody and unleash the power of their musicianship and unique style.
More than likely, you’ll get your chance as these
boys are on a mission to play every country dive
bar and punk rock club across the US. Perhaps
that’s why 500 MILES TO MEMPHIS’ songs
come across so warm and heart-wrenchingly
familiar, even when they’re played fast, loud and
with reckless abandon. It’s the type of honest
music that can prompt a sentimental, liquor-tinged
therapy session between old friends or incite a raucous, fist-pumping sing-along amongst perfect
strangers at your neighborhood pub. And that’s a
shot of firewater we’re happy to take any day of
the week.
The Tremors
Gojira-X
Gojira-X sounds like nothing you've ever heard! A
strange and unique blend of hardcore, metal, punk
and surf... All mixed with a heavy dose of Ed
Wood, Roger Corman, William Castle, Hershel
Gordon Lewis, John Waters and Arch Hall Sr.... If
the crew of the Satellite Of Love formed a punk
band, they would want to sound like this... remember... Science can not explain them! Technology
can not destroy them! Humanity can not survive
them! ....THEY ARE..... GOJIRA-X ! ! !
500 Miles to Memphis
The Bottle Babies
The Tremors dedication to the musical roots of
rock'n'roll comes through in every whipsaw atomic blast. A night with the Tremors is a hell-bent
chickenrun through the greatest music in
American history - rockabilly - the hybrid of blues
and country that became rock'n'roll and changed
the world. Through passionate research and exploration into rock'n'roll history, the band has assembled the finest, yet obscure songs of the 50's.
Throw in some of their own rockin' original material and you've got rockabilly as pure, authentic
and strong as Tennessee sour mash.
Ironhead
The Fury 3 started August of 2004. Almost Three
years later and they are going HARDER THAN
EVER! Named Five minutes before their first
show, While loading in, Billy Joe was asked "what
are you guys called?" he looked at his 71'
Plymouth Fury III and Replied "The Fury 3". The
two demo tracks that are currently listed are from
their "The Lost Sessions EP" from Early 2006.
Three bass players, and two drummers later. Now
with a line up stronger than ever they have hit the
studio recording their first full length album! Soon
to be available! We hope you enjoy our hard
rockin' anthems about love, loss, and life as we
know it!
The Bottle Babies have supplied a much needed
live round of ammo to the machine gun that is
Rock ‘n’ Roll. With cigarette stained, whiskeyladen vocals, punk twang guitars, a big bottomend bass, and power-house drums, the band is
cocked with a steady supply of original music. All
veterans of Virginia's music scene, this quintet’s
unique blend of garage, punk and twang has
quickly made them a regional favorite. You must
see this band. You must hear this band. The power
of what’s at the bottom of the bottle compels you.
All veterans of Norfolk, Va.'s rock scene, they
Named after the distance from the band’s hometown of Cincinnati to Graceland, 500 MILES TO
MEMPHIS plays rowdy, insanely catchy, sometime heartbreaking but always inspiring "country
punk" on their debut SUNSHINE IN A SHOT
GLASS. These songs are whiskey-soaked in bittersweet lament, but this is definitely not an alcohol-fueled pity party. Rather, it’s the slug of Jack
Daniel’s you throw back before crawling on stage
to sing your heart out. It’s the glass of liquid
courage that dirty barroom brawls and back alley
fistfights are brewed from. It’s the bottom of the
bottle where fiery, drunken tirades aimed at exlovers are unleashed. It’s everything we’ve regretted from the night before but can only half-remember the next morning. It's knowing you’ll survive
the hangover to raise hell yet another day. 500
MILES TO MEMPHIS sound like a band you
could drink a round or two with before the
show…and definitely a few more afterwards.
Ironhead is as snotty as The Dead Boys with looks
that could kill even Motley Crue, while still being
as hard and heavy as a punch in the face by
Motorhead's "Iron Fist". This ROCK N ROLL

Reach Around Rodeo Clowns
Heavy Rebel Weekender Magazine 2007
Canon, Charlie Gracie, Nick Kane of The
Mavericks, and is the drummer for Hermans
Hermits. "These guys dont look rockabilly?" The
Rodeo Clowns have been called psychobilly and
rockabilly with a punk edge but they are a style on
to themselves. They do not care about their clothing, haircuts, or what you call them, they just write
music that they enjoy. Since they all have a background in rockabilly, punk and rock-n-roll, you
will find elements of all these styles in their music.
The Bo-Stevens
Remember when bands loved to play? When they
would tour and put out albums of substance?
When they didnt care about soda pop, car commercials, clothing lines or the branding of their
name? Remember when a band was a band? The
Reach Around Rodeo Clowns is a band. The band
has already released two albums, and has toured
endlessly off of them. The combination of the
records and their touring has earned them tons of
radio play as well as features in magazines like
Hot Rod, CMJ Music Monthly and others. A
Google search on the Internet turns up no less then
twelve pages that reference the band and said
pages are hosted in local cities like Lancaster, PA
and as far away as Germany. Good music travels
far. The band formed in 1996 in Lancaster, PA,
thats right, Pennsylvania. Home of Herrs Potato
Chips and Lebanon Bologna. Quentin and Wendell
Jones started out as brothers and now they play
guitar (Quentin) and sing (Wendell) for one of the
best, screaming ass punk/rockabilly bands this
side of the mighty Delaware River. The band is
rounded out with Dave Ferrara on drums and Ross
"the boss"on Bass. Their first album, Whip it Out,
was released in 1997 and gave the band instant
credit within the Punk/Rockabilly underground.
The CD is chock full of tunes that will have you
pumping your fist one minute and doing your best
Elvis impression the next. Whip it Out was followed up with 1999s Circuit Rider. Rider was produced by rockabilly legend and Stray Cat Lee
Rocker. Rider demonstrated the bands growth as
well as the chops they had secured while touring
for Whip it Out. The new CD found them back on
the road playing not only in their native PA, but
also in Virginia, Kentucky, NJ, West Virginia and
New York City. In NYC they have headlined at
CBGBs as well as at the Continental, Brownies,
Under Acme, and are featured regularly at the
Rodeo Bar. The band has also been featured at the
CMJ Music Marathon two years in a row. They
were also featured on the CMJ Music Monthly CD
sampler. The members of the Reach Around
Rodeo Clowns have also worked with many other
artists. Quentin has played guitar on Robert
Gordons self titled Cd in the late nineties and from
time to time plays live with him. He also produced
Charlie Gracies 2001 Cd "Im All Right", and plays
guitar and bass on it, and from time to time plays
guitar live with Charlie. He has done live shows
for Hermans Hermits in the Past. Dave has play
drums for such artists as Freddie Boom Boom
Country tradition with a hard-edged Punk mentality, explaining why lead singer Hick’ry Hawkins
was named “the David Lee Roth of Country
music” by the Knoxville Sentinel. Singing songs
about hard times, whiskey and women; reflecting
on winning and losing at the game of love; and
respecting the strong influence of great Country
icons like Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Steve
Earle; veteran musician Hick’ry Hawkins has naturally hollered, strummed and crooned his way to
the top of today’s Honky Tonk music circuit.

down the East Coast audiences have either been
destroyed or switched on by The Butchers!
Hailing from Lancaster, Pa Booze, Flyin' and
Alvis first came to us wearing aprons and blood
(fake of course!) with a rowdy, rough, raw and
honest sound. Having realized a certain dynamic
between each other they have mixed their garage/
pop/ psych/ R&B influences. They now come to
you as "dedicated followers of fashion" wearing
fancy suits and ascots and have seasoned their
sound, sharpened their wits while they continue to
develop and mature. The Butchers have put themselves in orbit by laying out their own road trips
and they are what's happenin' everywhere they go!
Although they certainly are no overnight success
(or a success at all) but any old fan or recent discoverer will tell you they see it honest! They survive not because they are neccessarily good but
because they continue to get better - much better
indeed!!!
The Genders
The roots of this roots band go deep into the
Winston strata since Richard came to love the Tele
twang and pedal steel swells of Honky Tonk at his
father’s knee. Richard Sr. recorded two country
songs in a music store on Trade Street in the
1950’s – just a few doors down from the art studio
where the bo-stevens got their start.
Hick’ry Hawkins
Somebody will have to shoot Hick’ry Hawkins
before he’ll ever stop playin’! With a sound most
often compared to Dwight Yoakam, Jason and the
Scorchers, The Cramps and Jay Hawkins, The
Hick’ry Hawkins Band unites fans of Honky Tonk,
Country and Punk Rock, delivering a dynamic,
highly-acclaimed catalog of both humorous and
heart-wrenching songs with a Southern draw that
consistently packs the crowds into venues across
the Carolinas. Their distinctive, hip-shaking
Rockabilly sound combines a deeply-rooted
Hailing from Rock Hill, SC, Truckstop Preachers
(formerly 4 on the Floor) successfully recreate
country elements that country rebels such as Buck
Owens, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Cash used to
find their fame. By taking a hard-driving approach
to traditional honky tonk, these guys keep the
audience filling up their beer instead of crying in
it. The band plays versions of Bakersfield and
Traditional country music along with their own
hardcore country influenced songs. Their unique
blend of country, trucking, and rockabilly styles is
never pretentious or distorted, but instead delivered in a clear retrospective fashion. An explosive
stage act unfolds as soon as the curtain rises on
this crew of well seasoned performers. With a
mixture of talent and charisma, Truckstop
Preachers always leave an audience craving more!
The Butchers
The Genders are a four-piece based in Tel Aviv;
formed in 2004 they proceeded to record their
debut, "Rockin' in Ramallah" in their home studio.
In September 2004 they went on a 3-week mini
tour of the US and Canada (17 dates), immediately drawing the attention of hip Canadian label
AMP Records. In November 2005 AMP released
The Genders' debut, "Rocking in Ramallah" and
the band embarked on a 46 date coast-to-coast
North American tour. Upon returning from the
tour, the band added a second guitarist, rounding
out their sound. They began work on their second
release, entitled "Virgin No. 72". Another US tour
kicked off in October of 2006, taking them again
from coast to coast, a total of 39 dates.
Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Cleveland, New
York are just a few of the happenin' spots up and

Paul Grushkin. In the world of
music, a car is inspiration, a symbol
of freedom and style, and often a

Jimmy and the Teasers
Playing and breaking cheap instruments for quite
some time now are North Carolina's Jimmy and
the Teasers. Garage sleaze spiced with mutiple
rock 'n roll flavorings, Jimmy Brad and Super Val
have quite a booze-soaked legacy as one of the
most notorious acts at N.C. events such as
Sleazefest, Heavy Rebel Weekend and of course,
Elvistfest. With new bassist Terrible Tim in the
mix, the sound oozes even more sweat, smoke and
flith than ever before. With a nasty new record in
the works and a few dates with OKC pals Billy Joe
Winghead leading up to Elvisfest, look for Jimmy
Brad and The Teasers to encourage utter chaos and
deliver a very UNhealthy dose of their signature
trash guitar stomp. You buy the beer, and beware
of suprises.

maybe even slept on your couch. With a contstant
touring and recording schedule, these psychobilly
mad men have accomplished feats that other bands
only dream of. This band mixes psychobilly and
70's glitter rock with the attitude of street punk.
With a unique yet hauntingly classic sound, they
have been called the "ultimate rock-n-roll hybrid".
Check out the first album "I Was a Teenage 7 Shot
Screamer" to hear the dark-yet-fun origins of the
band. Then listen to the second album, "Keep The
Flame Alive", out on Haunted Town Records and
produced by Levi Dexter (of the Rockats) and Paul
Roman (of the Quakes). This album is a favorite
among many psychobilly and punk rock fans
across the globe. In 2005 the band was hired by
Exene Cervenka (of legendary LA punk band X)
to be her backing band, the Original Sinners. They
have since recorded an album with Exene entitled
"Sev7en" for Nitro Records that was released in
march of 2006 and toured coast to coast, pulling
double duty, opening for, and then performing as
Exene Cervenka and the Original Sinners. The 7
Shot Screamers have now signed with Big Muddy
Records, a label that hails from their hometown of
Saint Louis, Missouri. The new full length album
is set to be released on Big Muddy Records in
summer of 2006.

Greg Phoenix
Jimmie Martin bluegrass harmonies, part Hank
Sr., part Johnny Cash but most of all, ORIGINAL.
Songs about killing, fightin, love, sinners,
estranged lovers, murderers, and good men gone
wrong. Songs that make you want to drink, dance,
weep, holler, yell, and say Amen.
“I love and play all things Americana, from rockabilly & 50s pop, honkeytonk and alt-country, to
psychobilly (check out my band, Speed Crazy, on
myspace and NJSpeedCrazy.com!).” A rock'n'roll
fundamentalist and a true believer in the Holy
Trinity of E/A/B7, "it don't mean a thang if it ain't
got that twang". I started out playing rockabilly
with Jet Black, then on to some swing & 60s popinfluenced projects (members of Crescent City
Maulers), 'til I heard "the call of the wild", and
forged off into the psychobilly unknown with
bandmates Augie & Erica. Back at the ranch, alterego Greg Phoenix still roams the Americana countryside...

Rev. D-Ray & the Shockers
Face Down Presley
Rev. D-Ray makes the ladies swoon with his
crooning and skills on the electric kazoo, throwing
in some harmonica for kicks. The Rev., and yes, he
is a real ordained minister. Rev. D-Ray may
resemble a young Col. Sanders but he ain’t keeping his herbs and spices a secret. So what we got
here is a mix of musical stylings that will not leave
you wanting. Rev. D-Ray and the Shockers will
get ya like a drunken red-neck boyfriend. Their
sound and performance will smack ya around and
keep you coming back for more.
7 Shot Screamers
Porter Hall, TN forges the way in the evolution of
alt-grass music by blending the homespun harmonies of old school country with honky-tonk and
rock and roll. Relying heavily on influences from
the folkier side of country like Loretta Lynn and
Uncle Tupelo, their self-released five-song EP represents a major transition from Porter Hall’s former incarnation as a straight ahead rock and roll
band from Frederick, Maryland.

live the hangovers and heartaches and reconstitute
country music into what it SHOULD be nowadays; part chain-gang chants, part field hollers,
part Jimmie Rodgers tuberculosis blues, part
Four Gnarly motherfuckers trying to stir up some
new shit for the people. The Band got together in
september of 2005 and played their first gig with 2
days practice. Not expecting to take it much farther, the Black Market Band began playing out
regularly. With the constant line-up changes
(drummers!!!), and seth's new career in recording
rap music (seriously), the band had fallin behind.
This hinderance had been overcome with with the
success in completing their first CD, "Your Fate
Ain't For Sale", and their first Tour down to Heavy
Four Barrel Ghost mixes rock, country, punk, and
heavy rock, into what they call cowpunk.
Energized by a love of aggressive rock and roll
and a few too many PBR's, Four Barrel Ghost kick
it up right out of the gate, propelling the audience
into a frenzy of pure down n dirty punk, flavored
with the blood and tears of high-octane country.

Bettie After Midnight
Tough, sexy, and sophisticated, Bettie After
Midnight is comprised of three fiery chicks from
NYC who will stop at nothing to create hard-hitting, sassy rock anthems. Like a lot of NYC relationships, Bettie After Midnight started out with
an online ad. After meeting in February 2005 at a
trashy midtown sports bar, the girls left with good
vibes and scheduled a trial rehearsal. A couple of
hours in, they had exceeded their own expectations by writing their first song, the forceful and
uncompromising ode to self-possession entitled
"Step Aside."
Lords of the Highway from Cleveland, Ohio have
been steering a hellbound rig through the underground scene since 1992. The Lords have hit all the
stops along the highway, from New York's famous
CBGB's to lesser known honky tonk dives in the
hills of West Virginia. They've also played Bike
Week in Daytona, Florida, and are a fixture at the
notorious Heavy Rebel Weekender in North
Carolina, playing their patented blend of hillbilly
punk rock with a fresh, nutritious flavor that
always fully satisfies without being all smug and
stuck-up about it.
Uncle Scratch’s
Gospel Revival
Kenneth Brian
The Legendary
Hucklebucks
On records, in smoky dance halls, and on the concert stages of a musically attuned America, a solidly swinging convoy of big and little bands has
been hauling a rural-rooted ruckus known as rockabilly from town to town. This fabled movement
was first whispered from the mouth of the
most straight drummers around. Drunk by Six
plays drunken punk rock with a bit of ska, reggae
and 50’s rock n’ roll thrown in for good measure.
The content of their lyrics range from politics to
getting drunk to zombies and everything in
between. The members of Drunk By Six have a
number of punk rock influences from the late
70s/early 80s such as The Clash, The Misfits,
Social Distortion, Black Flag, Bad Religion and
The Business. Other influential bands include
Rancid, Operation Ivy, and the U.S. Bombs. The
members of Drunk By Six are on a mission to
spew their own brand of punk rock to the masses.
They’ve recently recorded a 7 song EP and have
played gigs at local establishments such as the
Smiling Moose, Brave New World, Excuses, and
the 31st Street Pub, as well as many shows outside
of Pittsburgh.
Mississippi as juke-joint blues began to paddle
against the current towards Memphis, where its
salacious sound fathered a juvenile delinquent
known to history as rock’n’roll. This crude progeny then set forth, stomping through the crops and
cattle of the heartland, picking up an Appalachian
swagger borne of Kentucky moonshine and West
Virginia coal mines, before arriving in its rustbelt
destination of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Whiskey Daredevils
Sasquatch and
the Sickabillies
In the fall of 2002 Kenneth Brian packed a suitcase and his guitar and moved to Nashville,
Tennessee. With eight years of experience playing
in an eclectic assortment of country, metal, and
punk bands behind him, Kenneth followed his
dream up to Music City and hasn't looked back
since, touring nonstop around the US and Europe.
Kenneth's writing draws inspiration from his life
growing up on the Gulf Coast of Florida, and his
family's West Virginia hard working roots. His
lyrics reveal his years speant on the road as a
musician- moving forward and looking back on
what he'd left behind. His music is straight ahead
Roots Country with a contemporary sharpness,
fueled by a backbeat of raw emotion.
Lords of the Highway
LORDY, LORDY, WE ROCK!!!!!! We are the
TWO headed beast that's gonna kick the devil in
the balls!!!!!! We have a couple goals. FIRST
show the secular devil worshipping bands how to
ROCK. Second...(we forgot) We will show up at
anytime to play. Sidewalks, by the restrooms, or
on the back porch. We have jammed with every
kind of band. Hardcore, Rock-a-billy, Emo,
Gothic, Punk, Metal, Black Metal, and crappy
cover bands. Plus many national acts like, The
Cramps, Rev Horton Heat, The Headcat, Bob Log
3, Hank 3, Throwrag, Converge, Thursday, Clutch,
Shadows fall, Boy sets fire, Every time i die, and
Godsmack (well, it was in the parking lot) etc....
Just give us one electrial outlet, and we will
ROCK. That's the way it's is done. Thank
You....The Self-Righteous Brothers.
Drunk By Six
Surprisingly, Drunk By Six began during a night
of drunkenness and loud music. Blackout (he’s the
bass player) moved to Pittsburgh from the
Youngstown area and hooked up with his former
bandmate Scott Drunk. They decided to form a nofrills punk rock band over a case of beer. After a
few months of writing songs, they hooked up with
Johnny Courageous who liked the music that
spewed from Scott and Blackout’s amps. So, he
bought a drum set and started slamming away.
Drunk By Six was born! But alas, John is now in
hiding from what he believes to be an impending
zombie invasion. So, Scott and Blackout stumbled
across another drunken punk rock drummer, Pat
Wasted. Even though Pat fails to make it through
practice sober, he can still beat a snare better than
Ruthless, gritty and hellbent!!! Sasquatch rolls his
eyes back as if he's talking to the other side and
plays guitar like an ancient monster. Johnny
Custom rides his bass like a bull that has just
escaped the un-holy gates of Purgatory. Some have
called their music a combination of Rockabilly,
Psychobilly, Punk and Blues but the only real way
to get the genuine picture is to get off your ass, go
to a show and pay attention to the revolution that
is... SASQUATCH AND THE SICK-A-BILLYS!
The Whiskey Daredevils have continued to bring
their original “no frills rock and roll” to anyone
that seems even the slightest bit interested.
Formed two years ago from three quarters of the
Cowslingers (Leo P. Love/drums, Ken Miller/bass,
and Greg Miller/vocals) with Dave Bowling
(Hayshaker Jones) on rhythm guitar and Bobby
Lanphier (Crooked Mile) on lead guitar, the band
has climbed in the van and brought the rock (and
occasionally the roll) everywhere they have traveled. The band has toured relentlessly throughout
a 12 hour radius of their Cleveland OH home base,
and has found an audience hungry for their warped
take on American roots music, rock n’ roll, blues,
country, and rockabilly. An explosive live show,
where speed and volume have always been their
friends, the Whiskey Daredevils are most at home
on the stage. The band has managed to “capture
the magic” (as it were) in the studio with their
debut CD “The Whiskey Daredevils Greatest
Hits” and the new full length CD follow up “The
Essential Whiskey Daredevils” on Germany’s
Knock Out Records. What can you expect from
“The Essential Whiskey Daredevils”? Check out
the global praise for “The Whiskey Daredevils
Greatest Hits” for an indication of the good things
to come…

Wafer Thin
Wafer Thin is a rock trio based in Winston-Salem
NC that offers a refreshing taste to the vast musical platter that is being offered to the world today.
With solid rythms, strong melodies, slightly distorted guitar and songs that capture the listeners
interest, Wafer Thin is considered by critics and
fans to be one of the better bands from central
North Carolina. A live set from Wafer Thin is
filled with energy and a full texture of musical
genres. There is the Americanish "One and Done",
the full on Garage Rock anthem of "Souvenir", a
straight forward rocker "Down", the haunting
southernesque "Remember" and a unique cover of
Duran Durans "RIO" which is always a crowd
favorite. When all is said and done Wafer Thin
delivers a rambunctious, clever and tight live performance. With two full length CDs to their credit
(On Your Mantlepiece) and the highly rated 2003
CD ( Strange You're Here ) Wafer Thin is poised to
return to producer Doug Williams studio and begin
work on the third Wafer Thin CD. The title for the
new CD is ( Southern Waves of Gain ) with plans
for a release in late spring of 2007. Wafer Thin
currently performs in central North Carolina,
Southern VA and northern South Carolina. Wafer
Thin thanks you for taking the time to visit and we
hope to hear from you in the near future. Listen for
Wafer Thin on the radio at the following stations:
WQFS (Guilford College), WXRC (Ch-Hill),
Lenoir Rhyne college radio, WAKE (Wake

High Rollers
Spanish tequila, Andy first got work playing percussion at a strip club but was asked to leave when
management discovered he was only 13 years old.
Coming from a family of musicians he has grown
up playing Blues, Jazz, Rock, Punk, Big Band, and
Country, but it is to Rockabilly that he pledges his
eternal allegiance.
This is rock and roll aimed squarely at people who
value well-crafted songs that rock ferociously but
never sacrificing the most sacred melody. It's
power pop. it's garage, it's psychedelia, it's
Stratocruiser. Hopelessly and irreverently out of
step with the latest trends, Stratocruiser laces their
happy rock sounds with hooks that are deep and
wide and loud guitars that alternately are jangly
and crunchy. Dollop on a heap of vintage keyboard textures (Hammond B3's, Mellotrons, electric pianos... mmm, creamy!) and this robust
instrumental stew of sound deftly balances the
melodic flair of songwriters Mike Nicholson &
Clay Howard.
Bad Andy began playing on pots and pans in Spain
where his dad lived and died as a bullfighter. It is
there that he acquired his taste for Latin rhythms
and Latin ladies. Smuggled to the U.S. in a crate of
Adopting a surname from his early days with the
Foul Mouthed Elves, Boston's notorious "drunk
rock" band, Al Foul has been making music for
over 15 years. Shortly after hitchhiking to Tucson
in 1991, he formed Al Foul and the Shakes, who
quickly generated an international fanbase and
became known for delivering something most
Rockabilly bands at the time lacked: a raw poise
and straightforwardness culled from a punk rock
background. With Al at the helm, their songs took
on a primitive emotional immediacy, preferring to
shine with an inner savagery rather than get by on
frills alone. . . . Now, as a one-man band, Al has
been able to focus more on whittling his distinctive songwriting and inimitable style into a sharp
point that pokes through the trends and fashions to
get at something timeless. He can drink you
under the table until sunrise, and have you laughing the whole time. Simply put: he's a born entertainer.
Das Manics
Joe Bob is the founding member of the High
Rollers. Born near Denver during a Gospel
revival, Joe disassembled his first guitar at the age
of 7. By nine he was rewriting his favorite Hendrix
solos and singing along to Country Joe and the
Fish. His favorite meal is Top Ramen with
jalapenos and he loves to ride his Harley in the
rain. He plays a converted 1956 Sears brand
Silvertone guitar through a vintage Fender Super
Reverb amplifier.
Bobby Joe stole his first bass from the VA hospital
on a dare from friends. Eleven years old, the bass
stood nearly a foot taller than himself, and it
would be several years until he actually began to
play. Now armed with a 1941 Kay named Nayla
and a 1959 Kay named Josephine. his thunderslapping style and Black Mountain charisma have
been the ruin of many an innocent girl. Common
show-stopping stunts include: lightning speed bass
spins, Joe Bob bass surfing, and complimentary
bass rides for the ladies.

The Defilers
Besides inciting riotous mayhem and general
debauchery (not to mention occasional nudity),
the Buzzards have performed at every rockabilly
hot spot, including the Rodeo Bar in Manhattan
and the Blue Comet just outside of Philly. They
are the house band at the Bayou in Long Island
and performed at the Gold Coast Casino in Las
Vegas for the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly
Weekend four years in a row. They were rewarded with a standing ovation each year. They have
performed at the Indy Rockabilly Rebel Weekend,
the Heavey Rebel Weekender in North Carolina,
and Rock n Rods in Philly. They performed for
the Rockabilly Hall of Fame many times, most
notably at the 50th anniversary of Elvis Presley's
first sold out concert, in Memphis, TN. They are
the band of choice to open for national acts and
received outstanding praise for their performance
with the great Scotty Moore. Scotty even came
out to the diner with the Buzzards after the show.
The Buzzards' CD, "The Grand Buffet," is available, along with tee shirts and other souvenirs.

The Defilers are a rockabilly/greaser punk threepiece from Charleston, South Carolina. Originally
formed in the fall of 2001 as a four-piece, the current consists of Arleigh Hertzler on lead guitar and
vocals, Michael Dumas on bass and vocals, and
Duck Reynolds on drums. The boys in the band
consider Johnny Cash, Social Distortion, Hank
Williams, and many other rockabilly, country,
blues, and punk pioneers as common influences.
With Hertzler and Dumas sharing songwriting
duties, each original comes from a different angle,
none sounding just like the rest, yet all fitting into
the sound that the band hears in its collective head.
Das Manics hit the scene in Sept of 2005 and the
three piece quickly gained a very good response
from critics and fans alike. Dylan Dead on drums,
Nate Niec on bass and Matt Matson (Lead guitar

"The Monads are too spirited and too irreverent
to be denied a little corner in your inner hillbillyhooligan's heart. Like Split Lip Rayfield before

2005” by the Riverfront Times and being personally commissioned to open shows by the likes of
the Gore Gore Girls (Detroit) and the Jet Set
(Milwaukee), it’s not hard to see why. The
Vultures unique blend of dirty L.A. punk and
Chuck Berry guitar have created quite a buzz. As
local radio personality Bob Reuter (Bob’s
Scratchy Records, KDHX) says, they “capture the
spirit of what rock n’ roll is all about.” The
Vultures debut self-titled album has been a top
seller locally ever since it was released on Big
Muddy Records in November of 2005. Positive
album reviews from legendary DIY magazines
like Under the Volcano and Maximum Rock n’
Roll have only helped. Rockabilly Magazine
called their blend of punk and rock n’ roll one “of
cacophonic tenor and with endearing drive.” Punk
Planet claimed they were "heavier than even the
Cramps." No Brains called their debut album a
"masterpiece."
The Cogburns
of the best new acts to emerge from the country
movement; which some call the ‘Anti-mainstream
Nashville sound’. The band features traditional
instrumentation and rock-solid song writing, but
also hints at something a little more sinister with
their content and aggressive delivery.” THE WAYGONERS are in some ways a throwback to the
good old days when beer drinking, juke joints, and
a raunchy band went together like dance floors and
sawdust. Doing it up in the tradition of their honky
tonk heroes Waylon, Merle, Hank, and others;
playing anywhere that can offer the band free beer
and a good vibe. Formed in 2005, THE WAYGONERS have found an outlet for their brand of
rocking country music across the small river bars
of southern Louisiana to the bright lights and big
city stages of Nashville and Austin. Adopting a
“Wherever and Whenever” approach to gigging
has given the group the opportunity to become a
tough, hard gigging outfit and hone their unique
sound in front of appreciative audiences everywhere. After a year or so of playing every honky
tonk and beer dive they could find, the band (then
known as the Honky Tonk Disciples) hooked up
with legendary roots rocker and Nashville producer DAN BAIRD, former singer of the Georgia
Satellites.
Rocket 88
The Buzzkills started out as the duo of Max Drake
and Matt Hill. Max and Matt wanted to spread
their own blend of Blues, Boogie, Rockabilly, and
Country to the masses. With the addition of Mr. FJ
Ventre on the big bass and vocals and the one and
only Chuck Cotton on drums and vocals came a
sound that can only be described as "Real
American Music." The Buzzkills put on a high
energy show filled with great original tunes, and
exciting covers from great american artists. With
Matt's wild man stage antics, Max's fiery guitar
playing, and the fat pocket of FJ and Chuck, the
Buzzkills are sure to keep you shakin' your stuff
all night long.
The Vultures
Cranked up on post millennium Garage Rock and
Roll, Atlanta's The Cogburns have been pounding
the Southeast since 2002. Prepare for a rock and
roll romp through the decades that will have you
thinking of The Kinks, The Knack, and The Hives.
With strong pop sensibilities and a powerful rock
hand, The Cogburns put on a high energy live performance that will have you drinking and shaking
for their entire set. The Cogburns have (dis)graced
the stage with the likes of The Woggles, Dash Rip
Rock and The Legendary Shack Shakers, as well
as top notch festivals such as Drive Invasion,
Sparklefest, and Heavy Rebel Weekender. 2007
will see The Cogburns covering more of the
Southeast's finest underground venues in support
for their 2nd album - Pay Up, Sucker, a tour up the
east coast, and another lovely trip to Europe in the
fall. Come on out for the party!

Billy Joe Winghead began in ‘93 in Chicago.
Former Kustom Kar Kommandos front man John
Manson enlisted ex-Kommando, D.J. Eddie Lee, no
stranger to flying bottles. Eddie brought along Dan
Grilley, who had a guitar and lots of cool hair. Along
with veteran punk Steve Jones on bass and babyfaced Libertine Dustin Reynolds on drums, the Billy
Joe Winghead live line-up was complete. They’ve
become an oozing sore on the lip of Oklahoma
City's vibrant music scene, with frequent jaunts to
Dallas, Chicago, Lawrence, Tulsa, and Kansas City
thrown in to make things less profitable.
Johnny O and the Jerks
Johnny O & the Jerks are St. Louis' original
"trashabilly" band, playing a dirty mix of blues,
rockabilly, swing, and punk that can't be heard
anywhere else. Taking Out the Trashabilly is fast
and fun, just like their live shows. Johnny O &
the Jerks love for improvisation has made them
one of the most exciting bands around town and
they make sure to keep their live sets fresh and
spontaneous. But high-energy is the constant and
it never seems to falter. This band is here to entertain, and they've never let down.
DO YOU NEED
After a lengthy hiatus, Florida’s legendary band
Rocket 88, is performing again. Originally formed
in Orlando in 1992, the band consists of vocalist
Michael Bales, guitarist Marko Zayas, bassist
Chuck Zayas, drummer Steve Plotnick, and pianist
Terry Mooney. Back with a vengeance, the original
line-up is reunited, performing to packed venues
their brand of high-octane rockabilly and rock ’n
roll. Their rockin’ high energy stage shows are
guaranteed to put a bop in your socks and a shakin’
in your shoes. So strap yourselves in, Daddy-O’s
and Lil’ Mamas--you’re goin’ into orbit with
Rocket 88.
