Other travel publishers either ignore those destinations entirely or include only brief information about them in guides to larger regions. But these are all places worthy of comprehensive guidebooks, and we are proud to help visitors discover them. Adding to this list of ‘one and only’ titles in 2016 are brand new guides to Ivory Coast (p 8), The Basque Country and Navarre (p 5) and Alpe-Adria Trail (p 7). There are also new editions of unique Bradt destinations, including Seychelles (p 2), The Peloponnese (p 4), Haiti (p 13), Uzbekistan (p 9) and Zambia (p 7). However, several of our bestselling titles are to more mainstream countries like Malta and Iceland. We often have the most recent guides to these destinations, and we always pride ourselves on having the best authors. Our authors are passionate and knowledgeable, whether opening the door to somewhere undiscovered or going deeper into somewhere more familiar. It is therefore no surprise that Bradt authors Hilary Bradt and Janice Booth won this year’s Best Guidebook of the Year Award (for North Devon & Exmoor, in our ever-growing series of UK titles). Away from guidebooks, we are delighted to be publishing the eagerly awaited autobiography of Jonathan Scott (p 8) – presenter of the hit TV series Big Cat Diary. And another welcome addition to our list of travel writing is Gullible’s Travels (p 8), John Carter’s humorous collection of tales gathered while working as a travel presenter on TV shows like Wish You Were Here…? Our company strapline is ‘Pioneering guides to exceptional places’. It was true in 1974 when we started, and it remains just as true today as we look forward to 2016. Happy travels! In this new edition from expert author Tamara Thiessen, a full update has been undertaken, with particular attention paid to ensuring all practical information in the guide is up to date. Maps have been rechecked and updated where required, and new ‘expert voices’ comment boxes have been added. July 2016 ■ 1st edition ■ £10.99 ■ ISBN 9781784770327 198mm x130mm ■ 192pp THE BIG CAT MAN Jonathan Scott This new autobiography by Jonathan Scott reveals the extraordinary life of one of the world’s most popular wildlife celebrities, who rose to international fame as a presenter on the Big Cat Diary, one of the BBC’s most popular and long-running wildlife series. Artist, safari guide, author and TV personality, Jonathan’s observations of wildlife over the years prompt him to reflect on his own life, revealing a side to his character that he has struggled to overcome since childhood. Aged nearly forty, he finally finds peace through meeting and marrying his wife, Angela, but their world is changed forever the day that Angie is diagnosed with a cranial aneurism requiring urgent brain surgery. Facing up to that challenge draws them even closer together and leads them on a spiritual journey to rival anything they have undertaken before. Ultimately, The Big Cat Man is a love story: one man’s infatuation with Africa and his unfailing devotion to the woman who shares his passion. Jonathan’s writing makes for a fascinating safari through a life lived in the world’s most spectacular wilderness area. His book raises uncomfortable questions about the future of wildlife on a continent where the needs of the people sometimes seem overwhelming; it will bring hope to those who have struggled with their own demons and been afraid to seek help; but most of all it will be an inspiration for those who long to follow their dream, whatever it may be. • Introduction by renowned conservationist Richard Leakey • Stunning photographs and illustrations throughout August 2016 ■ 1st edition ■ £20 ■ ISBN 9781784770334 234mm x 156mm ■ 320pp ■ 48 colour plates 48pp colour 8 Tom Sykes The only English-language guidebook to focus solely on Ivory Coast, a country that is becoming popular for ecotourism and wildlife, surfing and off-the-beaten track travel.
