We look forward to another exciting Finals Weekend full of great competition and lots of fun! You have all worked hard to get here and we greatly appreciate your support of CHJA recognized events throughout the year. We have some exciting new additions this year, including a Horsemanship Challenge to identify the riders that can “do it all”. We can’t wait to watch the new Groom’s Class and see who the winner of the $300 cash prize will be. And this year we will be awarding ribbons and prizes to 12th place in the Medal Classes. We will also be splitting the Adult Medal into two classes by age. We’d like to thank our returning sponsors. We count on you year after year and you never let us down. And a hearty welcome to our new sponsors, we are so excited to have you on board. Thanks to all of our sponsors and advertisers, old and new, over 600 ribbons, prizes and awards will be presented this weekend! So please take your time with the program and check out all the great tack stores, individuals, farms and retailers who so generously support us. A big thank you would mean everything to them! And lastly, thank you to all the trainers, vets, farriers, family and friends who support our riders and their horses. No one gets here alone. Kaitlyn has earned herself quite a following by regularly posting inspirational videos, encouraging other aspiring young riders to quite simply never give up. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of comments intimating that her videos and text descriptions are the reason that they continued riding, and that they did not give up. The amount of young riders, who claimed that Kaitlyn changed the way that they thought or rode, just because she told them to keep pushing on, was astonishing.” To nominate a deserving someone for the 2013 CHJA Sportsmanship Award, visit the CHJA web site at www.CHJA.net. Must be received by November 1. 2012 High Score Award Recipient, Mariel Saccucci, Wakefield RI, trained by Dyanna Rucco, Nevaeh Farm 2013 CHJA MEDAL FINALS WEEKEND WINNER The Connecticut Hunter & Jumper Association 2013 Medal Finals High Score Award TO BE AWARDED TO THE RIDER WITH THE HIGHEST FIRST ROUND SCORE IN A MEDAL CLASS In the Event of a Tie the Judge’s Decision will be Final Savannah Giammarco Savannah was the lucky winner of the $1,000 Medal Finals Weekend Package that was part of the Scholarship Fund’s Annual Raffle held at the CHJA Awards Banquet in February. Among her many activities and responsibilities, she serves as Vice-President of the school’s equestrian team, Secretary of the Phi Beta Sigma Honors Society, and volunteer driver for Safe Ride on campus. She also is an intern at the campus wellness center, all the while maintaining her Dean’s List status at the school. Her teachers, advisors, and supervisors consistently praise Jennifer for her leadership, dedication to serving others in her community, and her deep interest in helping others around the world. Jennifer’s dream is to become a pediatrician. She advises young riders that following your passion all that you care about most, including horses, can help keep us grounded and provide strength to cope with our most difficult challenges. Paige Humphrey is a senior at Bacon Academy, where she has challenged herself with honors and advanced placement courses while maintaining a busy riding schedule as a working student at Hidden Brook Stables in Lebanon, CT. She intends to study Equine Business Management, going on to pursue a masters degree, focusing on equine rehabilitation. Patience is the most important life-long benefit she feels she has gained from the experience of her riding years. She advises young riders that the rewards are there, for those who build upon “the fundamentals,” but that foundation “cannot be achieved without patience!” She expresses a deep gratitude for the steadfast support of her parents and trainers. It is not surprising that teachers praise her for her exceptional maturity! “Riding helps to inspire us in more ways than we realize, and often our most valuable friends stand on four hooves instead of two feet.” SPONSOR OF THE CHJA HUNTER CLASSICS & M E D A L C L A S S E S C H A M P I O N S ’ K E E P E R P L AT E S “I appreciate and respect all the trainers I have learned from and I take with me a piece of knowledge from each and every one of them…I am blessed with parents who have never said no to my dreams.” Each year the CHJA Scholarship Fund awards two scholarships, a Champion and a Reserve Champion. Over $80,000 has been awarded to CHJA members for their secondary education based on academic performance, character references, and teacher recommendations. To apply for the 2013 scholarships, visit the CHJA web site at www.CHJA.net or contact Jane Miller at jcm4448@hotmail. Appplications are due November 1.
