ABOUT THE JUDGES FOR THE 2013 CHJA MEDAL FINALS

THURSDAY, AUGUST 15TH
Welcome back to Fairfield and to the 30th Anniversary
of the CHJA Medal Finals! We look forward to another
exciting Finals Weekend full of great competition and
lots of fun! You have all worked hard to get here and
we greatly appreciate your support of CHJA recognized
events throughout the year.
We have some exciting new additions this year, including
a Horsemanship Challenge to identify the riders that can
“do it all”. We can’t wait to watch the new Groom’s Class
and see who the winner of the $300 cash prize will be.
And this year we will be awarding ribbons and prizes to
12th place in the Medal Classes. We will also be splitting
the Adult Medal into two classes by age.
We’d like to thank our returning sponsors. We count on you
year after year and you never let us down. And a hearty
welcome to our new sponsors, we are so excited to have you
on board. Thanks to all of our sponsors and advertisers,
old and new, over 600 ribbons, prizes and awards will be
presented this weekend! So please take your time with the
program and check out all the great tack stores, individuals,
farms and retailers who so generously support us. A big
thank you would mean everything to them!
And lastly, thank you to all the trainers, vets, farriers,
family and friends who support our riders and their horses.
No one gets here alone. Congratulations for all your
successes and have a wonderful weekend!
Best Regards,
The CHJA Equitation Committee

Amy Eidson trained with Paul Valliere, Ronnie Mutch and
Tim Kees, as a junior rider. After taking time to attain a BS
majoring in Marketing, Management and Speech Communications
from the University of Rhode Island she opened Irons Gate
Stable in Wakefield RI. She qualified riders for the Medal/Maclay
and USET Finals. She had a student win the USET Gold Medal.
She also had horses qualify for indoors and Devon. Her students
have won numerous year end awards throughout New England
and Zone 1. Amy was trainer of riders winning the RI Equitation
Finals 9 times and ribbon winners and champions at many
other equitation finals. One of the many horses Amy found and
trained was Toronto who won the USEF Medal Finals in 1998
when he was leased to Kent Farrington to ride.
Amy has been a USEF judge for over twenty years. She has judged
the Vermont Hunter and Equitation Finals, the Virginia Hunter
and Equitation Finals, Thermal, Ocala, Tucson, Winter Equestrian
Festival, Vermont Summer Showcase, IEA and NCEA Nationals
and many more throughout the US and Canada.
Currently Amy is Co-Chairperson of the New England Equitation Championships and Sr. Director
and Past President of the RI Horseman’s Association. Amy is a USEF ‘R’ licensed judge in Hunt Seat
Equitation and Hunters, along with ‘r’ in Jumpers.

2012 CHJA SPORTSMANSHIP
AWARD RECIPIENT
Kaitlyn Boggio
2013 CHJA MEDAL FINALS
HIGH SCORE AWARD
Sponsored by Mantec, Danielson, CT
© Reflections Photography, Inc.
“Kaitlyn qualified for and competed at the National Pony
Finals, where she was awarded a sportsmanship award after
displaying an exceptional attitude in success and in failure.
Kaitlyn has earned herself quite a following by regularly
posting inspirational videos, encouraging other aspiring
young riders to quite simply never give up. There are
hundreds, if not thousands, of comments intimating that
her videos and text descriptions are the reason that they
continued riding, and that they did not give up. The amount
of young riders, who claimed that Kaitlyn changed the
way that they thought or rode, just because she told them
to keep pushing on, was astonishing.”
To nominate a deserving someone for the 2013 CHJA Sportsmanship Award,
visit the CHJA web site at www.CHJA.net. Must be received by November 1.

Jennifer Weisenberger
Paige Humphrey
Jennifer Weisenburger is a junior at Castleton
State College in Castleton, Vermont. Among her
many activities and responsibilities,
she serves as Vice-President
of the school’s equestrian
team, Secretary of the
Phi Beta Sigma Honors
Society, and volunteer
driver for Safe Ride on
campus. She also is an
intern at the campus
wellness center, all the
while maintaining her
Dean’s List status at the
school. Her teachers, advisors,
and supervisors consistently praise
Jennifer for her leadership, dedication
to serving others in her community,
and her deep interest in helping others
around the world. Jennifer’s dream
is to become a pediatrician. She
advises young riders that following
your passion all that you care about
most, including horses, can help keep
us grounded and provide strength to
cope with our most difficult challenges.
Paige Humphrey is a senior at Bacon Academy,
where she has challenged herself with honors
and advanced placement courses while maintaining a busy riding schedule as a working student at Hidden Brook Stables in
Lebanon, CT. She intends to study Equine
Business Management, going on to
pursue a masters degree, focusing on
equine rehabilitation. Patience is the
most important life-long benefit she
feels she has gained from the experience
of her riding years. She advises young
riders that the rewards are there, for
those who build upon “the fundamentals,”
but that foundation “cannot be
achieved without patience!”
She expresses a deep gratitude for the steadfast
support of her parents
and trainers. It is not
surprising that teachers praise her for her
exceptional maturity!
“Riding helps to inspire us in more ways than
we realize, and often our most valuable friends
stand on four hooves instead of two feet.”

“I appreciate and
respect all the trainers
I have learned from
and I take with me a piece of
knowledge from each and every
one of them…I am blessed with parents who
have never said no to my dreams.”
Each year the CHJA Scholarship Fund awards two scholarships, a Champion and a Reserve Champion. Over $80,000
has been awarded to CHJA members for their secondary education based on academic performance, character references,
and teacher recommendations. To apply for the 2013 scholarships, visit the CHJA web site at www.CHJA.net or contact
Jane Miller at jcm4448@hotmail. Appplications are due November 1. Applicants must be active CHJA members.

It’s not about the size of the barn.
It’s the size of the commitment.
It’s a simple philosophy. Run a barn with a fewer number of stalls and a greater
amount of heart. Inspire competition and cooperation. At the same time, develop
great riders and even greater friendships. Focus on the wellbeing of the horses.
But never forget the people who ride them.
Congratulations!

Thank you to Jenny Martin and all of the trainers at the Hunt Club. You have helped Caroline grow throughout
the years. Your dedication, patience and guidance made her a better rider and most importantly, a better person.
You have helped Caroline mature from a young rider into an accomplished equestrian and from a girl into a
confident young woman. You will always be a part of our lives and we are grateful to you all.
