For small silk pieces (with experience can be used for larger silk
pieces). All silk painting techniques can be steam fixed.
The AVANTGARDE Silk Paints consist of 48 brilliant color shades and are suitable for
beginners as well as for professionals. With this silk paint you can use all the silk painting
techniques giving plenty of scope for your creativity.

Stretch the cushion on to the stretching frame.
Outline the AVANTGARDE Lining paint
in Black or Gold over the pre-sketched lines.
Make sure that the lines meet with no gaps as
they will form a barrier paint to paint within.

After the contour lines have dried, the
AVANTGARDE silk paints can be applied.
Apply the silk paint with brush sparingly and
evenly. Lift off the excess paint with kitchen
paper. Do not paint up to the lines as the
paint will spread to the edge of the line.
Clean the brush well between the different
color shade applications.

Excellent brightening agent and solvent
(water-based) for AVANTGARDE
steam fix paints. No matter what ratio you
mix AVANTGARDE paints, retain their
vivid brilliance. Improves absorption and
uniform coloring of silk.

Then let the silk dry. Fix using a steamer
or pressure cooker, then rinse the cushion
under flowing warm water and allow it to
dry. Washing removes any remaining black
contour paint.
Put the completed silk painting when dry on paper for
steaming which is at least 10 cm larger than the silk piece.
Do not overlap the silk. Roll it if possible without creasing
because creases cannot be ironed out after fixing. Then seal
both edges with masking tape and form this roll into a coil.

Silk Painting
Put the coil in the sieve of the pressure cooker, having firstly
filled with the correct amount of water. Important: The sieve
should not touch the water. No drops of water should
come into contact with the silk through the silk paper as this
would cause marks on the silk which cannot be removed.

The sealed coil is then covered with newspaper or aluminium foil in a roof-shaped manner so that the condensed
water can flow either side of the sealed coil. Only the
steam should come into contact with the fabric. When the
cooker is closed the water will boil. After 60 to 90 minutes
the steam pressure should be released, and the package
removed from the cooker and allowed to cool.
The silk should be rinsed well in clear water (conditioner
may be added). Squeeze the excess water from the silk
and dry by ironing.
Lay out the silk scarf on the plastic foil and fold it
according to your wish.

Put the rolled up silk whilst still wet in a bowl in the
micro wave and cover.
Alternatively: You can put the silk directly on to the
micro wave rotating plate (in this case the patterns remain
unchanged). It is important that you cover the wet silk with
a lid or micro wave foil. After 4 minutes at 600 Watts the
silk scarf is fixed.

This technique is suitable for fixing silk creations.
For example, splatter technique or simply silk scarves with
an attractive striped pattern. There is no limit for your ideas.

Apply AVANTGARDE silk paint with a brush
or with a pipette. Roll or fold the painted silk.

Then let the scarf cool off, rinse out the remaining color
with clear water and dry it by ironing on cotton setting.

Transfer the motif on to the silk. Place the
motif drawing under the silk scarf and fix it
with self-adhesive tape stripes on the support.
Transfer the motif by tracing with a soft pencil
on to the silk. Stretch the silk on the frame
using 3-point-pins. (=backside of the cover).

Fixing by ironing. When dry remove the
scarf from the frame. The JAVANA silk
paints can be fixed by intensive ironing
(cotton setting) on the back of the silk scarf.
The lightfast colors are then hand washable
or can be dry cleaned.

Apply the paint allowing the paint to flow
softly from the centre of the motif. Avoid
painting up to the edge of the contour lines.
The silk paint will flow by itself up to the
edges. All colors are intermixable and can be
diluted with water. By dabbing on water light
patches and highlights are created. By
applying JAVANA effect salt a snowflake
effect is achieved.

for creating a watercolor effect. The
technique is the same as working on

Instruction: After stretching the silk, the batik cold
wax can be applied with a brush, sponge or similar.
Where the wax is applied to the silk, the silk will
remain white or in the background color.
Surplus wax can be removed with paper when the
wax is dry (after 24 hours) by ironing on the
“cotton setting” as for iron-fix paints. The paper
should be placed between the fabric and the iron.
If using steam fixed paints, the colors should be fixed
before the wax is removed. The silk should then be
washed with hot water, and then dried and ironed.
