Moving Your Chamber Forward in 2012
During
this
year, I will be
leading the effort
as the Chairman
of your Chamber
to strengthen the
quality of our
business organization, now
and in the future. Your Board
will continue the strong work
of past leadership and develop
valuable
new
initiatives. During our planning retreat
in February, we focused on
enhancing our strategic plan
and goals and are working
diligently to ensure future
successes.
Through the work of many
of our fellow chamber
members and businesses,
great strides were reached in
2011 to improve the benefits
of membership. From the
new website to expanding the
usage of our database system,
and improving the various
committees and events, the
course has been set to move
your Chamber forward.
Notable
additions
will
include a Young Entrepreneur’s
Academy, as well as a Young
Professional Council. As these
programs take shape, you will
be given the opportunity to
get involved. I encourage you
to commit yourself and your
business in 2012 to become
an active business investor in
your Chamber of Commerce. Your business community in
this region is strengthened by
the activity of everyone being
involved and we appreciate
your determination and hard
work.

Festivals are Coming Up!
Why Volunteer with the Chamber?
Main Street Days and GrapeFest are coming up faster than
you might think, and this means that the Grapevine Chamber
is beginning to seek volunteers for our Concession Trailer and
Beer Booth.
You might be asking yourself, “Why would I want to
volunteer with the Chamber? What benefit is there?”
On top of the satisfaction of a hard day’s work, your business
can benefit as well! By taking an entire 3 - 4 hour shift in the
Concession Trailer, your business has their name on the side
of the trailer while you volunteer. Each shift requires six to
eight people, and all of your volunteers must show up for your
sign to appear on the trailer. You and your volunteers are also
welcome to wear T-shirts promoting your business while you
work at cooking and selling corn dogs, hot dogs, Frito pie, etc.
“To those who are given much - much is expected,” says Lynn
Johnson of Nutrition Addiction in Grapevine. “Volunteering
for the Chamber is a very fun way to give.”
It’s always beneficial to get your smiling face out into the
community, while also having your sign and T-shirts promoting
your business.
“Our team finds the opportunity to roll up our sleeves
and volunteer in our communities keeps us in tune with
our customers and helps us identify areas where we can be
good partners,” says Jeri Harwell with Allied Waste/Republic
Services.
The Beer Booth offers a similar opportunity, but requires
12-30 people, depending on the shift. By staffing an entire
two to three hour shift in the Beer Booth, pouring the latest
and greatest in beer, your business will have a sign outside
the booth while you volunteer. You and your volunteers are
welcome to wear T-shirts promoting your business here as well!
If you have interest in volunteering in the Concession Trailer
at the upcoming Main Street Days festival in Grapevine, May
18-20, please call the Chamber at (817) 481-1522 or email
[email protected].
To volunteer in the Beer Booth, contact our volunteer
coordinator Debbie Gill, at (972) 877-6147 or
[email protected].

Grapevine Chamber of
Commerce Women’s Division
The Women’s Division’s “Love Boat Cruise” set
sail on its Membership Social Voyage at our monthly
meeting February 21st. The purpose of the event
was to educate potential members and reiterate to
our current members about what our organization
is, what it does, how and why we do it. It was a fun
informative time for our members and guests.
Our 2012 theme, “The Wind in our Sails” was
illustrated throughout the program. A round robin format kept the
group’s leadership on their toes as they moved from table to table giving
their respective topic talks to the members. The subjects covered
included The Navigator (our mission), Life Boats (Christmas Spirit
project), Purser (fundraising), Anchor Crew (ways and means) Ship
Announcements (communications), and Cruise Director (community). After all the talks were finished, six chosen attendees participated in a
game show style contest that proved all subjects were covered adequately.
All six contestants got all 12 answers correct and were rewarded with a
special gift prize.
We hope that our visitors were pleased and informed enough to want
to join our group and that they will encourage others to come visit.
The Great Taste of Grapevine is our upcoming event. It will be held
on Thursday April 19th at the Hilton DFW Lakes Executive Conference
Center at 5:30. Tickets are $25.00 in advance and $30 on the day of
the event. They are available at the Chamber office, online or can be
purchased from Women’s Division Members.
Our March meeting will be Tuesday March 20, 2012 and will
feature speaker Debbie Gore on Recipe for Life. She will cover setting
professional and personal goals and to begin to pave a path toward
greater wellness. Our luncheon sponsor will be Congressman Kenny
Marchant. We meet at Stacy Furniture’s 3rd floor Community Room,
1900 South Main Street, Grapevine, TX on the third Tuesday of each
month at 11:30.
